The currency in croatia is kuna which is the croatian word for marten because their furs used to serve as currency
I did not know this! Thanks for sharing!
And now It's gone in favour of Euros 😔
There is still a marten on 1 Croatian Euro though
Just learned of these things today. They're fierce little buggers.
Glad you learned something new! Thanks for watching!
Wow! I never knew that Martens could take down a deer!😱 Thanks again AFF!😍
Glad you learned something new!
We need an episode on that dracula deer, or as I like to call it... "Deeracula"
Deeracula is my new stage name.
falcon s are my favorite please make a video
The Western Tufted Deer. We have a couple at my local zoo. Unfortunately they are almost as good at hiding as our Indian Hog Deer.
They are adorable!
Mink, Marten, weasels, etc. are some of the best organic rodent control you can get in the northern great lakes area!
Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu very much! These animals are my favorite!
So glad you enjoyed it!!!
Mine too. I drew my profile pic
Turu neh wae 😒 👆 ⚠ 💨 😴 👍 🔊 🔥 🕥 🕞 🕣 🕛 🕜
Take them home to eat your babies.
I just captured a video today of a Martin on the Oregon coast.
3:05
kitsune is a fox, tanuki is a raccoon dog(not raccoon and dog,a racoon dog), and martens are called ten.
I hope that anybody has a marten in their zoo they named it Lawrence
Omg yes
It seems quite possible they picked up the pack mentality from watching wolves and/or coyotes from their lofty perches in the trees. They're very observant and insanely clever, so it's kind of a no brainer that they could easily see the benefit of teamwork!
You are absolutely right about them being insanely clever! I own a ferret and she amazes me with with her genius on a daily basis! And I also agree with your idea about them forming a pack due to observing other pack carnivores such as wolves and coyotes!
Fact: European Pine Martens are a protected species in the UK, but in central Europe they are very much a pest, with many preferring to make their homes in the attics of houses located near to woodland or forests. They destroy roof insulation and soil the attic causing a bad smell. Cute - yes, a pain to get rid of - definitely !
Oh I can see where that would cause a lot of problems for homeowners! It can be tough to strike a balance!
Marten's are Croatia's national animal. We even named our currency after them (Kuna).
They are powerful little beasties its a good symbol to have haha. Small but can take on things MUCH larger than themselves and is even capable of even scaring away Foxes and Lone Wolves etc... very impressive. They are literally Squirrels but 100x better.
Several members of the family Ictonychidae are excellent predators.
And theres some video of martens attacking monkeys too! Fearsome
Whew I haven't seen that! They're fierce creatures for sure!
Pls do *"Groundhog"*
I want to learn something about this pigs.
Look for video on Chunk.
I work at a tribal park on Vancouver island and we have endangered pine martens and they are cute af
I love marten and ferret
Your biggest cousin to wolverine can take down bears including cougars wolves we seen it before we have never seen them like that in our life
uuuhhh....no?
What do the carnivoran families Ictonychidae (Zorillas, African Striped Weasel, Marbled Polecat, Patagonian Weasel, Grisons, Wolverine, Tayra, Martens, and Fisher) and Eupleridae (Malagasy Carnivorans) have in common?
Wonder if MOTH-MAN has a pet Marten???
Yellow throated martens not only take down twenty pounds musk deer but have also been known to hunt 80 pound Himalayan Tahr, and even savaged a 3 year old giant panda and left it to die
How cuiuteee
Marten=DEMON time 😈
They do not take on Deer.
They eat carrion and encounter dead deer, but that is it.
Yellow Throated Martins DO hunt and kill Musk deer.
Watching them killing monkeys is something you won't forget in a hurry 😂
Tanuki (aka raccoon dog) is part of the canidae family (like wolves, dogs, foxes, etc). Kitsune is japanese for fox. Both are associated with trickery but have different themes and ways of going about mischief in Japanese lore. They're not related to martens so I'm not sure how that tidbit got in there.
Yup! That's right! There are also Japanese martens who are associated with trickery. They've been depicted in hyakkiyagyo (the parade of one hundred demons) scrolls and are part of folklore. I've been studying the Japanese language and culture for nearly three years now, so whenever I get a chance to include a lesser known bit about it I try to do so. Thanks for commenting and hope you enjoyed learning about this other tricky yokai!
@@AnimalFactFiles Thanks for the reply. Very cool about your studies. I got to do research / study in Japan (biology) awhile back. I hope you get to visit (if you're not already there) Japan in the future once the current situation clears up. 頑張ってください
Facts, that what matters.
this creature is my Patronus
Are soft spoken, w/ strong Ferocity
Interestingly, the annoying-to-google-the-common-name "Fisher" (Pekania pennanti) used to be considered just a really big marten. Even a few of the Native American names literally translate to "Big Marten."
I caught 3 today
🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Cutest murderers ever.

I love these guys. Proof that whatever you lack in size or power you can make up for with sheer enthusiasm.
Actually got to know a yellow-throated marten for a few years. A very friendly girl.
Never seen any other kind with my own eyes, but I'm hopeful.

Here's my pal Marty a close relative to the American Pine Marten the European Pine Marten (Martes martes) filmed not too far from a large town. I have a playlist of Pine Marten footage on my channel. They are starting to do well again in Ireland and are extending their range. But are still considered a rare sight in general. But that is partly due to their nature. They were restricted to only one or two areas (e.g. the Burren in Co. Clare) and close to extinction until quite recently.
you named all the other animals that could prey on martens accept Cougars which can kill just about any thing in the wilderness. Cougars are Top predators.
martens dont lay eggs
yes this is correct
Don't mean to be rude, however you pronounce Marten like the American Pronunciation for MARTIN (People's Name). The Proper pronunciation for the aforementioned animal here, is Mar - Ten !! Also Please give us the definition for Scat, especially that we don't know how to get the definition on the net 🥺🥺🤔🤔🤔
