I feel so bad for him…. When he said “I’m a good guy, I don’t deserve it” I really felt that, I almost wanted to cry. He seems so genuine and I pray things get better for him!!!

I gave away nearly everything and left home to travel. Ended up living on the street for a year in New Orleans. People would help without me even asking. I jump at the chance to buy a few groceries or offer a couple dollars to others in need. The world is made better one act of kindness at a time. 💞
new Orleans is my home town. warms my heart to hear this. it explains a lot about my family. when I was small my parents would always teach me to help anyone in need. whenever we passed a homeless person my mom would always buy them food and tell me to hand it to them. it made me how I am today. I absolutely HAVE to help any and everyone I can, if I can.

No, it's really a Texas thing. NYC spends over $30,000 per homeless person per year. Red states act as if they can be all moral and not have state or city income taxes, but this is what you get without that.

A woman and a mom that suffered from loosing everything in a blink of an eye to sleeping on sidewalks and in the forest and knowing you had to move everyday and being looked at as not human is the hardest and saddest thing I’ve ever experienced. I’m not in that position any longer but I feel this pain. Not everyone who is homeless is bad. We all are just one step away from falling.
It's Never a Blink of a Eye....It was things that Lead to it...Even if it was a Fire the Red Cross and other Services will assist you....People need to take Care of their Finances.
All homeless people are where they are for a reason. Usually it's their own poor decisions. Therefore, they get what they deserve.

Having spent years volunteering at homeless shelters, I can assure you, 80% of homeless people WANT to be homeless. You can offer them a job, and they might even take it, but within 2 weeks (their first paycheck) they’re right back on the streets.

I’ve worked with plenty of ppl in the restaurant industry who are homeless and definitely more who are addicts. Having a job and being an addict are irrelevant here.. judge yourself

No they are not. You can not generalize. It’s a case by case situation. All the soup kitchens and homeless shelters I’ve volunteered at are actually the opposite.

Why doesn't he apply for a job? If he was able to run a business then he no doubt is capable of finding work and don't give me the "No where is hiring" line. Somewhere is ALWAYS hiring it may just not be what you envisioned doing but it's work and a step in the right direction. I genuinely feel for the guy but I also believe there is more to the story as of why he fell off. Maybe he hypothetically spent that "80k" on smack and his life slowly fell apart as a result of addiction like millions of other Americans. Giving someone you know nothing about tons of money is the most ludicrous idea I've saw invented on the internet.

This reminds me of this time where I saw a homeless person in a hammock way up in a pine tree, and a really tall one, it was crazy. He must have been a climber!
The birds were bad enough at defacting bombs now we have the homeless bombing us from above.
He’s such an angel & this is so sad. He will be blessed. This is important to see. We’ve lost our humanity as a world. People can’t even get their basic needs met. So many people are on the verge of being homeless amongst the millions that already are. We need to help each other & to hold our bullshit government accountable.

I help people in his situation daily I am a human service's worker that have seen the worst in people that choose to criticize people in this stage of life. What I would love to know is how many times you have turned your back on someone that needed help?

It's actually pretty clever... Most shelters can be dangerous, homeless encampments are just as bad. He's up in a tree and off the streets.
In homeless shelters you have to watch out, most of them having mental issues and most of them have knives.
In homeless encampments the biggest problem are drugs, they get high and trigger all their mental illness.

I know a guy that had a company.
He had 3 employees. Equipment servicing. He trained two techs, and it went well for two years.
He went on vacation, came back to an empty office and no equipment.
His records gone as well.
As it turns out the employees all quit , took what they wanted and left it unlocked for two weeks.
Opened a new company , same routes, same clients. The fabricated story was pushed so well , the clients thought the owner sold the biz and left town with the profits, leaving the employees broke.
So much for the land of the free

I like how he says if your homeless you're treated like you're not human but 99% of homeless here in austin acts nice at 1st, seems nice, then freaks out and screams at you for not giving them some money or helping them out... My Wife is terrified of homeless cause they will try to open her door to talk to her even with our Baby, and threaten her or scream yell and hit our car. Doesn't matter to them wether it's a gas station or restaurants or even at intersections, it doesn't matter. Our Homeless community is Dangerous, Rude, and down right disgusting(at times). It's even worse that our city isn't able to provide all the help necessary and even then most of the homeless refuse to accept the help. Little does anyone realize most of these homeless make up to or over $50/HR panhandling and asking people for money.

You can apply to the United States military you're still young enough or there are many truck driving schools that will pay to get you to them provide you lodging in food and a weekly fee of about $350 for your training. It might not be what you want to do you might not like it but it's damn sure better than the current situation you're in and if those are so repugnant to you that you reject them then live in a damn tree I don't care but you've got to take what you can get!!! And you don't have to have a home or an automobile to do either one of those. You can live on base and you can go eat at the mess hall everyday truck driving you live on the truck and even the first year driver can save $10,000 if you do Long Haul Trucking. And companies are desperate for drivers they just need a body if you don't have any DUIs or major felonies you should have no problem getting in. I lived on the truck for 3 years I had a 36-in flat screen TV a Sony PlayStation a microwave a mini refrigerator I got free showers and so so Medical vision and dental benefits. And the best thing is you don't really have anybody that's looking over your shoulder all day. Pick up and deliver on time don't hit anything and don't drive crazy you'll be just fine it's not that hard to drive a truck

Being homeless sucks…but make smart moves. The most important thing you should have is both your US Government issued passport, state issued driver’s license and anything else you might need to secure employment. People will treat you like crap and generally have no idea what YOU should do. Stop taking advice from people, most people are morons and have no idea how to survive in such a situation even though the human race is historically nomadic. Trying to hold onto what you know with bags hanging in a tree, just won’t do. Get a backpack, keep your gear together, get your ID and Stop identifying as a homeless person, just call yourself “person”, who absolutely can participate in the modern day economy. Stay on the move, don’t establish any kind of permanent shelter on the street, maybe hidden in the countryside, stealth if any, but clean up trash and stay on the move. Make it a point to keep yourself and your car clean if you are living out of your car and avoid telling your family when they only know “civilized life” and no longer consider you human. They may call the police, try to steal from you, you’d be surprised how quickly a family can turn, so never make mention of loss of job, homeless, bad news of any kind. As an adult, best to share only good news, if any. Society told me I was insane, now I am doing fine, not rich, but not worried, not tonight thank god with -27*F !!! So, why does it seem that the same populations, many of who me may have called me insane while I chose to pay $0 rent and live in my truck to survive a tough time for a month or two, but now as near as I can tell, twelve years later, people have greatly underestimated to economic hardships and overall lack of unity in this country, look at us now! I’m glad I saw the lies for what they were back then, now I own my home, have saved some for retirement, etc. I wish I could share with these new people how regardless of your situation, things will be fine if you preserve your spirit, mind and body, do not accept “homelessness” as your new identity and lifestyle, aim to do better for yourself and count on no one but yourself. I feel him and understand exactly what he's going through. I've been homeless for 3 years living in a pickup truck that has been parked in my bosses parking lot. He let's me run a line from the shop so that I can have heat for the winter which is a little small heater and a fan in the summer to help keep me cool. I have a small TV for entertainment so I can watch movies and I removed the back bench seat and passenger seat so that I can lay some foam down and have a bed to sleep on. Most of the money I make goes to my son's mother either through friend of the court or additional money that she continues to ask for to help with our son and put gas in her van because now her stupid ass is homeless too when she had an apartment that she could live in that I was paying for but because she smelt weed every now and then being smoked in other people's Apartments she did not want to stay there anymore. And because of the way Apartments are making it a requirement to make three times the monthly rent at least in order to apply we are unable to get another apartment because she doesn't work she homeschools our son and I have to pay for everything which doesn't leave any money left to save. People want to judge other people when they're going through hard times thinking that it's their fault and have no idea the circumstances that put people in these positions. A large part of it now is because of how corrupt the real estate industry has become and how greedy they are. Investment companies are buying up property so that they can rent them out and drive up the cost of rent for everyone. The price of a two-bedroom apartment in the area that I'm at now 5 years ago was about $800 now it's 11 to 1300 because of these scum bags.

I recently finally got on medical coverage because I had to quit my job in order to get hernia surgery done that I don't with for over a year. Until I could not take the pain anymore and couldn't even go to the bathroom. So I had to quit my job in order to qualify for medical coverage because the amount that I was making was barely enough to pay for my friend of Court payments and pay for my storage unit that has everything I own. So now finally I'm getting some medical problems that I have taken care of but I'm not getting any younger. I'm literally old enough to be my son's grandfather 10 years old so it's kind of hard to do the things that I would love to do with my son because I'm not physically able to do all the rough house and that he likes to do. Sometimes I shut down because the burden seems too heavy sometimes but I have to carry on cuz I don't want my son following the same path that I did. It's a little difficult at times though because my son's mother seems to think that I don't do anything to help out and she has her own way of doing things which is undermining me whenever I try to teach my son stuff. But I just got to keep going I can't stop but as soon as my son is old enough to be on his own I'll be gone like the wind

Austin is a terrible place to be homeless. Most of the homeless people are violent and there's been a lot of murders where they target other homeless people and the city just does not care.
When you're homeless the biggest threat to you is other homeless people.

The biggest threats my girlfriend and I have had is when our neighbor living in a house threatened to burn our vehicles to make us leave. Two weeks later he fired off his shot gun in response to his anger he felt towards the homeless. Territory aggression directed at people just trying to survive like any human would do. The people in homes are far scarier than the homeless at this point.

Anyone can become homeless for all different kind of reasons. I myself was homeless for a short time. Lucky had family and friends that helped. Prayers for this young man. We need to pray and those who can to help. Even if it's just bringing a meal or clean clothes. We are at a time in the human race where more and more people are willing to judge with out knowing someone's story. One people could be judging them you never know. It's our place to help each other. Only God should do the judging.
Same here , was working from my condo on a Sunday ,had just made the bed , had more laundry in the dryer when a fire started in a third floor condo that was rented by two young adults . I was instantly homeless. Got out with my keys and a fire extinguisher and the clothes I was wearing . My unit was totally destroyed by water damage and the building was demolished . I slept in my car for days , used the portable toilets in a park as my bathroom , moved to a very cheap hotel , back to the car , back to the hotel and was about to give up when I found a place to stay for only $1000 dollars a month. Been over a year . I was thinking by this time next year I might be living in a tent and homeless again . Even if the condo is rebuilt I may not be able to afford to live there . The rebuild team says we are short and they have spent almost half a million of the insurance monies doing studies . It's disgusting . The lawyers will eat up all the money and and I will have nothing and still have a mortgage.
