in 1988 i played this Mozart sonata in a public recital, considered as my finals in the music conservatory. Modesty, I memorized the entire 3 movements because it was a final examination. Ten hours/day practice. Sadly now, i am struggling to go back and play slow each day.
Hi good to hear
I'm playing for my exams 😀
Interesting, playing the piano is a wonderfull God given gift to have, iam mostly self taught, I taught myself to play the piano at the age of 15yrs, iam 53yrs old now, I've just humbly speaking managed to teach myself to play the k331 1st movement ( theme and 6 variations) and the rondo alla turca, ( menuetto and trio next) along with various other pieces like Beethovens moonlight sonata and the pathetique, this sonata the k 332 start with the 1st movement Is my next challenge, managed to sight read 1st movement a few mistakes but iam humbly speaking pleased with my progress, also learning the rondo in D major, k 485, I find practising it slowly and building up the speed is the best method to use, all the best with your playing, greetings from wales uk 😀
@@adrianthomas6244 thats really good, self dedication is brought about by your passion, self determination _ the feeling is deep self contentment, so fulfilling even if we are not so financially rewarded. God bless on your wholesome journey.
Crazy to think that this was your graduation piece. I'm studying it for my 4th year final exam 😢
It’s never too late to relearn piano - I’m a piano teacher and I teach many adults!
I am currently 13 years old playing this piece, and it has brought me such joy and peace. No words can describe how much I enjoy playing the piano for others to enjoy and to share my gift.
You are very talented for playing this level eight piece, for only thirteen years old
@@marrowfamilyfarm this is rcm level 10 btw

Just knockout variety and pleasure.
1:18 circle of fifth progression. Rare for it to be so overt in classical era
so simple yet it gives me goosebumps every time
@@rus8286 yeah the genius is in the voicing and accents :D
Who knew Mozart would shamelessly steal from nirvana 😔😔😔
Thanks for pointing it out. I have never studied this piece from a theory point of view, and this part has always sounded unique
true, its something heard in more modern music. i was pretty surprised when i heard it here too. my favorite part though, something about the suspension with the dynamics makes it the climbing tension so subtle, yet so impactful.
*1:24* *3:30* i love this difference of articulation
I’m currently 12 years old and I taught myself this piece
Ты супер! У тебя прекрасная душа. Желаю тебе огромных успехов.! Пусть удача сопутствует тебе! И пусть БОГ тебя хранит!!! ❤❤❤
Beautifully done! (One of my favorite Mozart movements--I set it as my morning alarm. It's the gentlest way to awaken and start the day.)
If I’d set as my morning I wouldn’t wake up, I would sleep like a baby
@@amitguy950 😂 I agree
@denisemary Most people need Mahler or Wagner as an alarm... More effective.
I love the ornaments in the second repeat of the 1st mvt.
I've listened to this countless time and it still amaze me. I mean, bravo
Really like that third movement, always give me a mysterious yet nostalgic feeling!
Лёгкость и глубина бытия! Спасибо!
Wunderschön, ich liebe diese Sonate. Sehr einfühlsam gespielt!
Fantastic! Thank you
Glorious music and gloriously played. Sikolov is very judicious about his use of extra ornamentation on the repeats and it works beautifully. The last movement is very concerto-like I think.
I had to analyze the form of this piece for school and I'm quite thankful there was such a beautiful recording for me to listen to over and over!
Sorry, I'm not a music student, what does "analyze the form of a piece" mean? I'm really curious.
@@AhbibHaald Music can usually be categorized into different forms (the general structure of the piece.) A simple and common example would be what's called a "Simple Ternary form" that is where the music follows the pattern of "A B A" where "A" represents the first part of the music (the first melody, set of musical phrases, or just the first musical "idea") B represents the second part. You can usually hear when the music changes from how the piece sounded at first (a new accompaniment style, a new key center, and new melodic material are all good indicators)-- that's when the "B" section starts. Eventually, the material from the beginning of the piece returns, giving the feeling of having returned home because the music is back where it started.
Musical forms can get pretty long and pretty complicated. There are often little forms within bigger forms and many things that can make it more challenging to figure out the exact form. Most forms find some way to bring back the "A" material because that gives the music a sense of continuity and completion.
Most people are familiar with the form called "strophic form" that is simply when music is written in a verse-chorus-verse-chorus etc. pattern.
I hope this wasn't too complicated or too long. I love it when people want to know more about this stuff. I hope this was helpful!
@@jtwattsmusic wow, thank you so much! I had no idea there was a whole system to categorize the way a piece loops around its main idea. I'll do more research about it, it sounds really useful for interpretation. Thanks again!
simple sonata form
@Joshua Watts it's called sonata form.
Now THAT is an interesting variation on the base theme in the Allegro
Wonderful! What a gorgeous slow movement!
This is amazingly amazing. Great job. The music, the soul, the movement, perfect. My favourite sonanta =))

Finally the right tempo, not too fast.
I'd still like the finale a touch slower, personally, and with a bit of time at some of the dramatic moments, but otherwise it's pretty good.
Beautiful interpretation

I really wonder what Mozart would say. This is just so different. Yet so interesting. I am not even sure if I like it.

Wonderful. Thank you. Much joy in following the score.
Трогательно, душевно, талантливо. Особенности неповторимого пианистического искусства Г. Л. Соколова.
Just watched bodies on netflix and they played slow movement in episode 7..... Very tasteful ❤
The March like second movement is easily the best part

I’m 11 and a month and currently learning this piece! This video has helped greatly, thanks!
Классно, желаю удачи!
Hi, it'd be nice if you could place ads at the end of the movements and before the beginning of the next. No problem with ads, I just think they'll be better if they not interrupt the music on important moments. Thanks for the work, greetings from Mexico. ❤
I have no control over ads. I do not place them myself, since the music is copyrighted. TH-cam algorithms make the "decision" when and where to place the ads. This channel is not monetized. I make the videos purely for educational purpose. You could try restarting the movement, if the untimely ads bother you.

2nd mov just too beautiful to describe wow
WOW
Sooo good👍
Yea it’s so good!!🤪
What I'm about to say might shock you, but I think that he plays it too "beautifully", and we lose the drama! Not every single sound should be "beautiful", as that would be rather uninteresting.
Escuche esta melodia en un capitulo de los caballeros del zodiaco y la vine a escuchar aca...excelente melodia , me tranquiliza.
The tempo reminds me of a guy ice skating for the first time! Such an interesting sight to behold!

0:58 seems like "La Donna è mobileee" (Verdi - Rigoletto) 😱😱😱
I have been thinking that too since I started learning this piece. Rigoletto obviously didn’t exist yet, but the Italian opera influence is clearly there.
I don't listen to Russians or eastern Europeans play Mozart or Schubert. Now ,I see I'm wrong after hearing Leonskaya live in Mozart .Pletnev maybe not and he tries to bring new life into everything he touches but he changes the composer too much for me but it's still a good Neessary exercise . Who wants to hear the same music a thousand times the same way. Actually a lotta people want to hear their fave popradio song just like it was perfectly studio produced but... Sokolov touches ,attacks and voicings here are so marvelous I must find other Mozart performances but twice he rushes the a in ms.6 everytime it occurs he gives the A a 16th value. I wonderwhy he is fastidiou about such things .
Gorgeous
Hey
@@erezsolomon3838 Hey mate
Huh? Do you guys know each other? You guys seem like good friends 🤪
The transition to part 2 is interesting which sounds like beethoven's sonata. Mozart music seems same, but he chages in different angles.
Classical music, a magnetic force that draws us into a world of grace, where the harmonies linger and the echoes of emotion resonate eternally. 🌌🎹

It’s actually much harder than it seems. The 2nd mov is extremely difficult because it requires perfect voicing and balancing.

Well it's not as printed! Are you saying that's a Gulda variation?
0:39, why is this part played so slowly, from what I know (I personally play this sonata), that part is supposed to be fairly fast, though everything else is great!
Yes, exactly!
Self note: Supposed septuplet at 14:03, part after that sounds like raindrop theme.
Does anyone know which publisher are these scores from? They are so beautiful to read.

Another eccentric performance by Sokolov. The playing is excellent but the interpretive choices are not convincing to me.
best version,superior to Josh Wright.
Somebody else listen "la Donna É Mobile" at 0:59?
I’m just learning this piece and I got up to measure 22
Wow!!! Amazing❤️❤️
I am at measure 8, extremely slowly, because I have to do exam for Grade 6 ABRSM, first. But I bought the books of Grade 7 and 8 already, because I like most of the pieces. And trying a too high level, helps me playing the lower levels better.

Ads in the middle of the 1st mvt!!!
I am not responsible for placing ads; those are placed by TH-cam logarithm. It is unfortunate that they interrupt the flow of the music. The more popular the video, the more ads are inserted. sorry to break here with my ignorance . just ask why this is called sonata and n12 and n332. the k299 and movement (eine kleine nachtmusik) does? my ignorance despite I listened to hours of this from hundreds of source and theaters. this still make me a poor fucker.
The No. 12 means that this is the 12th Piano Sonata Mozart composed, while the K-numbers refer the the Köchel catalogue, who ordered all of Mozart’s work and this is the 332th piece of work in total.
