This is the perfect pedal demo. You don’t try and rush things and gloss over, but you also perfectly trim the fat that other pedal demos tend to have. I was already sold on the pedal, but this video showed me that is now an essential instrument all on its own that I need to have. Thank you!
@TheRustyPeppers Nope, I've never experienced anything like that. Sounds like a very unusual problem. I'd be interested to hear more about the scenarios which that occurred in and the exchanges between users and Hologram where they refused to fix.
Very nicely done! My kind of demo; no talking, no blues licks, just turn knobs and feel it out, well done! About the pedal itself; Most of these sound pretty cool, but tbh some modes feel very similar, just minor variations on a theme.. Also makes me think many of these sounds can probably be recreated quite easily on ZOIA! Nothing wrong with that, the hands-on knobs found here is definitely something I'm missing on ZOIA sometimes..
Appreciate the kind words! I definitely feel that. You pretty much nailed it with the hands-on thing. It's really nice to have this super easy and intuitive box and free up ZOIA to serve other purposes (of which I'm sure you know, there are so many).
So I’m a very new beginner in production and electric music. is this a looper too? How does it gather sound? Is it only electrically with things plugged in? Like how would you get sound from a mic or acoustic guitar or anything of the like. Is it simply a guitar pedal I’m thinking too hard about?
Yes, it is a looper as well! I have another video demonstrating the looper alone. It gathers sound from this input jack. Whatever you plug into that will be processed. It is just like any other guitar pedal, so however you normally connect a mic would be the same.
this is a great demo for this product iv seen a lot of this week and this pedal is a great sound device ill post some stuff soon you put everything together so well great job . and your a great player very good taste in lines i dig it man be well i subscribed as well
How well would this work with a chase bliss blooper? I'm assuming it can be midi clocked and I am really interested in hearing what they both can do together
Sir, greetings from India. Thank you for such a detailed, precise and patient review and demo. I jist had one question please. Are all these 44 sounds you demonstrated PRESETS ? OR are they patches created by you ? Im surely buying this device purely based on your fantastic presentation. If youncould please shed some light on my question please..Thank You.
Could you explain how to control the Microcosm with a midi controller? I have an Akai LPD8 and use Ableton and Logic. I'd like to have the Microcosm on the ground (so I can use the Microcosm foot switches) and map the knobs/buttons to a midi controller and/or have the microcosm on my desk (and map the Microcosm foot switches to a midi Footswitch controller). I know it can be done, I just can't figure how to do it. I reckon there'll be lots of people interested in this...
I'm very new to MIDI so I can't really help you there! Sounds really cool though and I'd be interested to learn as well. If you figure it out you should make a video to share.
A very cool demo of a very cool pedal. Unfortunately, I don't see how it could be used practically in a live setting, but I'm sure you could paint multiple soundscapes in the studio with it. I would like to have heard it with some different sounds - I think you just used the neck pickup on your strat - (and very delicately at that) - but I'm sure the pedal would react differently with different pickup positions, and perhaps a little distortion?
Thanks for your feedback! I would suggest trying one for yourself to see how you would like to use it. I have live performance ideas in mind myself. I averaged about 1:20 per preset to keep the video under an hour and the idea was to show what it sounds like on its own. I'll have individual effects video coming going more in depth. Maybe I'll even turn on a little distortion!
This demo is so musical. So many of the little pieces of music you make here could easily be used as loops in, or foundation for songs. Maybe release this or some of these as a collection of samples that others can remix? However, much of this video as it is, is great as background music for whatever else I'm doing right now. My only critique is that you make it seem so easy to play this thing. I've seen a few "wtf?" videos on it to know that for many this pedal leaves a lot of aching scratch marks in their head and everlasting deep furrows. Your video however makes me seriously consider jumping the cliff and go for this as a solution to my quandary and query for glitch and bitcrush, randomness. I've been thinking about getting the Red Panda Tensor, Montreal Assembly Count to 5 or maybe the ChaseBliss Blooper. The last one scares me a bit as I'm worried that I will find it confusing and hard to learn. Probably same thing goes for Count to 5 but that one seems like a sort of "Whatever happens happens" hard to control lucky accidents pedal anyway. The Microcosm is really tempting and also even though not exactly cheap it can still be considered bang for the bucks as it offer so much. But as I am a bit ashamed that I haven't explored my Eventide space enough to justify having such a professional pedal in my possession, I am worried and wonder if my impatience with programing will mean that a Microcosmos on me would mean even more pearls before swine.
That's such a nice compliment. Definitely been thinking about how to go about doing something like that. I haven't seen these other videos of people having issues with the pedal but I suppose one thing I could say (and this goes for any pedal really), that you need to work WITH the pedal as opposed to playing some blues licks and expecting it to transform that into something amazing. All of the pedals you mentioned are wonderful. The microcosm, to me, seems like the most intuitive of the bunch. I'm sure the size of the pedal helps to achieve that, as the others you mentioned are all compact. I love the sound of the Eventide Space, but I don't deal with digital displays and menu diving on pedals too well (ZOIA has been a huge exception, as it is much more than a guitar pedal). There's not any "programming" to be done on microcosm other than saving loops and presets which is completely optional. I feel like the Microcosm gives the perfect amount of information and feedback. You can just scroll through the effects until you find something cool, maybe tap a tempo in, dial in the reverb, freeze it, play with the filter. It's very inspiring and easy to work with.
@@MAXDECAY Thank you. That was a good reply. Your comment about blues licks made me laugh. In my language we have a term for what we call guitar wanking witch is close to what that sounds like. Could the pedal do a basic reverse delay and tape delay type sounds. And varispeed loops? (pitch with speed) Mostly interested in board space, of course mainly for the granular swells. My ehx hazarai is partly broken, so it would be cool if it were a full upgrade. Though perhaps a separate tape delay too.

I believe the Microcosm is stereo while the Mood is not. The Mood is extremely versatile and is more of a blank canvas to explore while it seems the Microcosm gives you more preset options as starting points to jump from. I’m still hunting one down personally. Great demo here!
Glad you thought so! That is one effect I haven't heard out of this yet, but I'm definitely still finding new sounds every time I sit down with it. I'll be making separate videos going in depth into each effect so stay tuned for those.
Hello @@MAXDECAY thanks for the video, I just hope the next Microcosm videos will have less or no reverb at all because that doesn't help to understand each effect on the sound we're hearing. I know it sounds nicer with reverb, creating bigger atmospheres for sure but it's less comprehensive for didactic videos like yours, sure you see what I mean. And for the dry/wet control, you put it more wet than dry, not at 50% (knob at 12 o'clock): is it because you wanted us to hear more the effect than the original guitar sound coming into the pedal? As for the reverb I think it could be nice for your next Microcosm videos to put this knob at 50% to hear the effect as much as the original guitar sound being treated by the pedal. I wanted to tell you all that via private message but it seems impossible. Cheers :)
This is so comprehensive and informative - many, many thanks. I was just wondering, in your opinion, to what extent stereo is an essential part of this pedal. I’ve listened to your demo through headphones and wasn’t sure which effects really utilised stereo imaging/panning etc.
Appreciate the feedback and I'm glad it helps! The stereo thing is definitely subjective and I haven't done an A/B comparison, but I do catch little sounds bouncing back and forth on some settings and that makes all the difference to me personally. From 10:00-11:00 of this video is a good example of that. I would imagine the stereo reverb image is much wider too but have not tested that yet. Many more videos to come!
I just pre-ored one of the second batches of the microcosm. I have the Zoia, Cooper FX Arcades, Outward V2, Tensor. I sold the Particle V2, because I felt like they would over lap completely. Does anyone that has any of those pedals and this? Do you feel like they overlap? I have been trying to downsize. With the Zoia, and Arcades I have definitely been able to sell off some old favorites, because they have been duplicated on those pedals.
How are you liking Zoia? Spend a lot of time with it? I’m on the fence as I fear I won’t use most of its usefulness. No need for the synth aspect and sorts. Just effects.
@@MAXDECAY Oh yes we do :). This would sound so good on a sax or whatever.. Great job man. This pedal sounds awesome ! Hope to give it a try someday. No drop of volume in the dry signal when you engage it ?
@@blendreed9474 Very nice. I think it would sound great as well! I definitely recommend it. No drop in dry signal when set to fully dry on the pedal and it is turned on.
What compressor settings do you feel work best in front of the Microcosm? I'm still getting a feel for that particular interaction. I honestly can't imagine a better demo for this machine. Perfectly done.
I just use my standard compressor settings. Keeley Compressor Plus: Sustain at 9:00, Blend at 3:00 and the other controls straight up. I really appreciate that!
So I’ve been trying to make sure the microcosm is capable of doing a simple sample/hold. (As in you hit a chord/note and it keeps playing that chord or note until a new one is played to re trigger the hold) Not like a freeze but something like the EHX Canyons or Red Panda Particles ability to sample/hold. I use this a lot and all the variation present here is cool but I need to make sure it can do the basics
MAX DECAY something like this: th-cam.com/video/V79LCmEf804/w-d-xo.html Basically grabs a small loop set by the time setting and repeats it until triggered again by input. No variations just over and over until triggered again. It looks like it can do this but there’s always some variation? Even reading the manual it’s not clear to me if this can be achieved. Thanks so much for the reply!
Just recieved mine and thanks for the demo ! Haven't had the time to really explore it yet, and it looks great, but anyone else experience a down drop in the volume when going 100% wet mix ? Even with the "effet volume" set to maximum ? And also a huge loss in high frequencies, also with 100% wet mix ?
My pleasure. My experience is that if you are using a setting with low activity and repeats it's going to be quieter than if you have something with more activity going, repeats building up, etc. I've found that the output peaks at almost the exact same level as my dry signal.
@@MAXDECAY Thanks for your response. I agrea with what you said, maybe it's when there's low activity. But the lost in the high frequencies are real on my unit.. I'have encountered other problems like the mix knob is not continuous, when i go full wet and then to dry very slow, there's drop when sounds appears. Do you have that ? And also, most of the effects seems to have problems to deal with continuous sounds. Like when i try to apply effects on drones, I have no sound at all very often.. but when i play notes it works.. I dunno if it's the same for you. I also have some clicks and unwanted sound when moving knobs.. I'll think i'll write to them to know ! Great pedal other than that, but I hope i'll find a solution for those issues..
@@tromal217 Definitely let them know! I haven't noticed the drop in high frequencies myself. I like to run it with the filter partially on anyway so maybe we have different experiences. No noise issues on my end. I have had the same thing a few times where it didn't seem to trigger when I was playing continuously at a constant level into it. I'd have to test the mix volume jumps but I use that knob a lot and it never stuck out to me.
I had no idea... Perfect demo. Pat yourself on the back for making a solid video which fully articulates how badass and capable this pedal is. Btw. I now want to learn guitar 😂
That is way too difficult of a question! I usually say Microcosm for more instant gratification and ZOIA if you don't mind putting a little more work in.
Exceptional Demo. A tough question: In your opinion, would many of the individual features of the Microcosm, be able to be emulated on the Zoia? If so, would they sound as good, or do you think they've really nailed it with the Microcosm...certainly sounds like it.
That is a great question. Yes, a lot of the individual effects could be recreated. Could a lot of them sound as good? Yes. Would the effects be as easy to use and tweak in a live setting? No. Some of the combinations of things you can do with Microcosm wouldn't be possible with only ZOIA (think, using the looper to record a Mosaic loop, switch to Haze and record another loop, then an interrupt layer, etc., all while running through an ambient reverb and filter). At the same time, ZOIA does so many things that Microcosm doesn't. Two different monsters. I personally am going to run them side by side.
@@MAXDECAY Thanks for the concise reply. I recently got a Zoia and am still yet to delve into it, but I must have marvelled at that original Microcosm Preview Video at least 20 times.
@@rhabdo_X Oh man. I love them both. Totally complimentary to each other. Not sure if you've seen my ZOIA playlist but that's a good place to start to see if you like the sounds out of it.
MAX DECAY hey just to clarify : I could be wrong but I thought I understood datachoirsounds explaining that you can’t record different loops with different effects - which was a deal breaker for me - but maybe I understood her wrong - are you able to record one loop with say haze and then record another loop on top of it but with a different effect ? Thus having two loops going at the same time with two different effects ?
@@KunchangLeeMusic Maybe there was a misunderstanding. Where did you see that stated? You can in fact do exactly that. It wouldn't be two loops, but rather two layers in the same loop, just like layering in any other looper.
Could you please tell me...Is there a noticable noise floor on this pedal? For example, TC, Strymon and Source Audio are dead quiet. Surprisingly, Chase Bliss and Cooper FX DO have a noise floor that is noticeable when you go direct into the board like I do. Thanks in advance to whoever answers this because I really would like an answer. I'm sick of getting pedals and having to send them back LOL
I assume you mean when it is engaged, does it create some noise regardless of settings or even if you are playing? If so then I hear no noise increase at all.
@@MAXDECAY Actually noise floor refers to the noise that is inherent in the pedal that is not the intended noise. Basically White Noise Gremlins that exist due to a pedals DSP rating for this (I forget the exact term for this...fci??). So it's actually inherent when you're playing or not and I can hear it when I go direct both ways. But I got a email back from infinite Jets and it was very detailed explaining how the microcosm has a new DSP chip that has a lower noise floor then the infinite Jets. This is actually been a great learning experience about noise for for me and they gave me a great explanation. Basically the new one is quieter than the old one. Thanks so much though for your response and just know the people at infinite jets are awesome. Have a great day man.
I heard this petal is expensive Is it? I don't know maybe it's just me I don't see how it can be useful I don't mean that to be mean or anything I don't understand the hype of this pedal it sounds like tsndom sounds snd glitchy notes

Thank you so much for this I just got mine and you made it so easy to go through every setting. It’s a magnificent beast to say the least
Crushed it! Thank you.
My pleasure!
Fantastic demo dude! Mine's coming in June and this video has been really helpful as to what I can expect to achieve with it
Appreciate that! Glad I could help.
Amazing, do you know how this compares to a Chase Bliss Mood?
Thank you. I have not tried Mood, but I think they are quite different.
I believe the Microcosm is stereo while the Mood is not. The Mood is extremely versatile and is more of a blank canvas to explore while it seems the Microcosm gives you more preset options as starting points to jump from. I’m still hunting one down personally. Great demo here!
Great comprehensive demo!! I was wondering. How well, do you think, can this pedal do lo-fi, tape loop (wonky pitch) type textures?
Glad you thought so! That is one effect I haven't heard out of this yet, but I'm definitely still finding new sounds every time I sit down with it. I'll be making separate videos going in depth into each effect so stay tuned for those.
@@MAXDECAY Thanks!
@@itsdrawkcab5899 You got it!
Cheers :)
@@VEsound Thanks for your input. I'll consider that when filming future videos and decide what I think is best in that moment.
amazing!!!
Incredible work!
Thanks buddy!
So cool! I traded my Outward V2 a while back to try some other things and I really miss it.
How are you liking Zoia? Spend a lot of time with it? I’m on the fence as I fear I won’t use most of its usefulness. No need for the synth aspect and sorts. Just effects.
Great demo, very musical effects.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done!
Thank you!
@4:38 was that some Anberlin?
Nope, but I'd be curious to hear what you're talking about!
so good! thanks!
Are you using the Zoia as well? Or just the microcosm? What a crazy combo goddamn hahaha
Only the Microcosm in this video, though I do use them together regularly and they make a great pair!
Is this gonna work on winds instruments?
Do you have a way to get your wind instrument sound to 1/4" guitar cable?
@@MAXDECAY Oh yes we do :). This would sound so good on a sax or whatever.. Great job man. This pedal sounds awesome ! Hope to give it a try someday. No drop of volume in the dry signal when you engage it ?
@@blendreed9474 Very nice. I think it would sound great as well! I definitely recommend it. No drop in dry signal when set to fully dry on the pedal and it is turned on.
@@MAXDECAY awesome. Thanks !
@@blendreed9474 You got it!
great vidl. wish the Shape knob was adjusted more tho. Was left on square most of the time.
I get that. Was trying to keep the video as concise as possible. I plan on doing individual videos for each effect where I will get more in-depth.
The most beautiful senseless pedal that i know...
This is a really good demo! Thank you. Actually super informative
Glad to hear it!
Very Nice !
Such a pretty guitar
Thanks. The body is from Bloomdoom on Reverb.
The only guitar effect video that could be released on vinyl.
Haha I really appreciate that
Can this pedal do the standard looper without all the “glitching/cool” effects & modes? Amazing vid btw!
Yes it can. I demonstrate how to do it it the "Looper" video that I made. Thanks!
MAX DECAY thank you! Will check that out :) I’m not sure whether you’ve tried chase bliss audio blooper, but if you did, which one is better?
@@ashrafimaduddin8162 No problem! I have not tried Blooper but I think they are very different.
I haven't used either of those so I'm not 100% sure I understand. Do you mean a short loop?
MAX DECAY something like this: th-cam.com/video/V79LCmEf804/w-d-xo.html
Basically grabs a small loop set by the time setting and repeats it until triggered again by input. No variations just over and over until triggered again. It looks like it can do this but there’s always some variation? Even reading the manual it’s not clear to me if this can be achieved. Thanks so much for the reply!
@@CorinianSalame Oh yeah, it sure can. If you shoot me a message on Instagram I'll record and send you a quick clip.
@@CorinianSalame And it can be set to either have variation or no variation.
MAX DECAY thanks so much dude! Messaging ya now
So fucking epic! Great job.
Thanks man - means a lot!
Dude mad respect for the video the helpful comments everything so impressive had to sub straight away helped so much
Appreciate the kind words and I'm glad I could help!
Thank you for the demo! Side question: what patch cables are you using? They look to be both flexible and sturdy.
Into the pedal is a cable I made and the stereo outs are George L's solderless.
I had no idea...
Perfect demo. Pat yourself on the back for making a solid video which fully articulates how badass and capable this pedal is.
Btw. I now want to learn guitar 😂
Hey, just glad I could help!
Zoia or Microcosm?
That is way too difficult of a question! I usually say Microcosm for more instant gratification and ZOIA if you don't mind putting a little more work in.
I wish the stereo field on this pedal was wider... Sometimes I can't even tell I am in stereo.
so damn good sound......$449 is really a competitive price
Totally. You can do so much with this alone.
I expected £600 to £700.
Thank You!!!!
You're welcome!

It wouldn't be two loops, but rather two layers in the same loop, just like layering in any other looper.
was it recorded in stereo? no noticable stereo effect I can hear.
obvious stereo effect over here

Thank you for not talking.
No problem, it was really easy.
@@vernal6944Sweet! Hologram is great to work with indeed. My please and I'm glad you got that figured out!

You can check hologramelectronics.com or reverb.com for prices. If I could choose only one pedal it would be this, so I suppose it depends upon your preferences. I did my best to showcase what it does in this video.
your guitar is not in tune / great demo
