  • Sit back and enjoy my first Art Supply Haul! In this cozy unboxing I am having a first look at a bunch of art supplies that I purchased online.
    I talk some about buyer's guilt and yet again I cannot help but try to justify my pricy expenses. Do you feel guilt when buying new art materials as well? Even though you worked hard and saved up for it?
    Anyway, be my guest and let us all know your opinion on the art stuff shown in this video, can you recommend anything or is anything around here you are eager to buy yourself?

    There is a mistake in this video: I talk about how I got 4 Sets with 5 colours each which equals 20 different colours - NOT 16 like I said in the video *facepalm* Forgive me that mistake, I am honestly proud how I managed life so far being this bad at math 😂Anyway, thanks for yout patience and kindness everyone ❤️

If you watch Natasha Newton you know how she did a video a while back about making color palettes, and I think you would make such a cool sister video to that!! Thank you so much for the mentions and I'm so excited for these supplies, I have to try the Canson paper and I love the gouache airtight palettes!! Awesome video as per usual!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    As a professional artist and Bookbinder myself, please DONT feel bad, NOR apologize to any haters that may pop up on here! People have been picking up this nasty habit lately, of getting nasty with people that have alot of art supplies on YT, and shaming them?!?!?! They try to make you feel guilty, and they act like jerks ( Natasha has been having major issues with a few, unfortunately) so they may come here.... PAY THEM NO MIND!!!!! we are adults, we are artists, crafters, hobbyist, beginners and pros...we all gather these supplies over years and years and years, with alot of hardwork, blood, sweat and tears. Hell, I own a FORTUNE in professional artist grade supplies from years upon years of buying them. And I have a bad habbit/addiction to get the full color range of almost every professional brand of artist grade supplies ( literally)! Yes iam extremely fortunate, but because of my hardwork... like everyone else! watercolors ( yes really lol ), colored pencils, pastel pencils, copic markers & refill inks, Ad markers, Molotow & posca paint markers, ink brush pens, acrylic inks, golden acrylics... soft, high-flow & full body, pigmented watercolor markers...inks and pencils, soft pastels ( not all but a ton, all of the terry Ludwig pastels tho lol ) fountain pens with gold flex nibs & flex nibs, fountainbrush pens from Japan, fountain pen inks, pigmented inks, gouche, acryla gouache, brush pens, pan pastels, goatskin leathers from france and Italy ( I make goatskin leather Hardbound watercolor sketchbooks with all the professional 100% cotton papers ) I own most of the artist grade 100% cotton papers & watercolor papers, pastelmat, mixed media papers, Strathmore 500 series papers, comic book boards from Eon & Strathmore, bristol plate, bristol vellum, etc etc in INDUSTRIAL ROLLS ( when available) and imperial sheets. I also make a line of watercolor paints with rare, hard to find, unavailable/discontinued, historical ( specially pure lapis pigments) and cobalt pigments... i have a entire pigment collection worth its weight in gold, equipment, tools, and on and on. Iam not saying this to brag, but from experience... even my good friends that are also artists, bust my stones constantly, and call my studio & Bindery " Deejay's WAREHOUSE of art and binding supplies " 🤣🤣🤣 they will literally stop by and start browsing around, because i have everything set up and displayed all around my studio & Bindery. Everything has its own place ( OCD ). we all work extremely hard to have the abilities to purchase these things... whether you are professional or hobbyist, crafter... whatever. It's your money, buy as much as you wish without BS guilt from others. It really makes me mad when I see people on here shaming others, simply because they dont have it and you do! "Nobody needs this many/much supplies blah blah blah" so they just try to tear people down like jerks. Anyways, I've ranted enough lol. Thanks for sharing your haul with us, AND ENJOY all of your amazing supplies! You have very nice taste in supplies may I add. I love getting a large haul every other month or so, to restock or try something new. And i love seeing other artist hauls too! Have a great day and cheers 🍻

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      OMG, Dejay, this comment rules! I've seen what happened to Natasha Newton in regards to mean comments, and I also got my own share of comments on consumerism with art supplies. They were not really nasty, but seeing that all my art hauls, even though many people seem to love them, have gotten a significantly large number of dislikes, that makes me worried a little. I don't know if it's envy, anti-capitalism / consumerism or people just simply hating my guts and not clicking with me. Anyway, you do you and quite frankly, even if some art supplies end up catching dust - it's every artists own decisions and consequences. Why would anyone's buying habits affect my own life? The don't and that's why I never feel any negativity towards people who get new goodies, the contrary, I am happy and excited for them almost as if I got those materials myself. It's so strange: when a musician buys instruments, studio supplies, new frets, whatever - nobody comes along bitxhing about it. If a musician plays a cover song, people celebrate it and they don't tell them they are not supposed to be inspired or play an interpretation of someone elses song, these covers appear on albums and get played at concerts. The art community is mostly very kind, but every now and then you have people who get mad you buy art materials, or paint something that resembles a certain style / is inspired by the art of someone else (I am not talking stealing or very obvious copies without reference). I would have never learned how to paint if it weren't for studies and I find it sickening when beginner artists are being accused of copying, or artists told to only share something "original" (I hate that word). Same goes for art supply purchases. Like you said, you are a professional artist and these are your tools. Oh lord, I am trying to envision your studio, filled to the brim with so many things - like an art supply museum 😂❤️ I approve! So happy for you 😄 Have a fantastic day, Deejay

    I loved this vid and I'm super excited for you and all the fun you're going to have with all your new goodies!! CreatingCuteArt is honestly one of the sweetest people I've ever spoken to, I'm so glad others are starting to see that as well and are learning from her. She's an excellent teacher with loads of patience that I'd never have, lol!
    I am so inspired by you for many reasons, one being your openness about your hands! I have chronic pain and the meds I use have overtime caused shakiness and random involuntary spasms, which have left me super depressed about with my artwork. It's extremely frustrating to be in the zone and suddenly lose control of my hand, have it trail across my paper and instantly ruin whatever I've been working on. You give me hope, because you understand the frustrations yet you still make absolutely amazing art! Thank you for that inspiration, from the bottom of my heart ❤️
    Also, you mentioned distilled water for your gouache. I've never thought of that. I've always used a spray bottle with tap or bottled water. What's the difference or benefit to using distilled? I'm super intrigued!

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much, Melanie! What a beautiful name btw 😊 I totally agree, I think CreatinCuteArt is highly underrated considering the content she puts out and the effort she puts in! She is so kind, full of positivity, a great speaker and teacher and so much more! I feel you in regards to the spasms and losing control. This is indeed depressing but there are ways to make things a little easier for you, such as bigger paper and brushes and pens with sturdier bristles. Also I have been thinking, maybe you can use it to your advantage! Look, who said you always need the most perfect edges, there are many artists who are amazing and their art does not look perfect from a conventional standpoint but it adds to the charm! And the distilled water is because depending on your location tap water can increase the chance of your paints getting mold , distilled water is cleaner and free from additives, chalk and stone and I also heard that the paint spreads easier when you use that instead, so I was thinking maybe use that instead of tap water. Maybe the difference is insignificant but it is something that I am willing to try out. Melanie, thank you so much again and have a wonderful day!

    If you can afford it, buy it 🥰. Nothing to be ashamed of and you don’t need to explain either. We all have, earn different amount of money what each us spend it on is up to every individual person. I’m one of those who don’t drink alcohol, don’t smoke, spend zero on cosmetics and very little on clothes and other things. Expect hobby materials and good food 😋, that’s just what I prefer. If other people prefer to spend their money on different things more power to you. We all need to accept our differences even when it comes to money and empower each other 🥰.
    I love unboxing videos, this one too 😍

    Never be ashamed of buying art supplies! I have a terrible paper addiction! That pad is probably a 90lb sheet pad for sketching. The St Cuthberts is a very good paper and I believe that when they glue it down on all side they call it a “block” I have used porcelain plates for general palettes, I especially like full pans rather than the 1/2 pans my brushes are lasting longer too! I recently got the new inking brush that comes with JAZZA’s new professional kit. I only bought the small marker set mostly just for the brush marker for inking! You can buy it by itself a better bargain than buying his entire box as I have everything else he was selling. WoW so many goodies! I liked that Canson heritage series too! Ok I am stopping, but you are so lucky to have the ability to enjoy your art supplies! Be safe and take care!

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the meantime I tried St. Cuthberts and it is actually on par now with Canson Heritage Coldpressed now! Your comment is great btw, so much knowledge! I never thought about half pans being bad for bristles but it makes sense! That Jazza inking brush is something I will look into! Right now Princeton Select Liner in 0 is my favorite Liner brush but I am desperately trying to find something better because it breaks so quickly and it is really hard to get it, they don't sell them in Germany, gotta ship from overseas and it's sold out every time I check, so if you happen to know some inker or liner that can hold enough paint and is sturdy enough for shaky hands I would love to hear! Thank you so much!!

  • @CC-jy3el
    @CC-jy3el 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I also have very shaky hands, and I am not crazy about the PocketBrush Pen either! Everyone seems to love it but I find it really hard to use! It's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels that way.

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have been thinking, maybe people swear on it and like it so much because it is the only brush pen they ever tried, it seems to be the most available of that type. Even on super large canvas I can’t control it at all. I always thought I am the only one, the odd one 😆 but it’s such a relief to hear you don’t like it! And yes, it sucks to be in the shaky hands club but it hopefully will never prevent us from being creative 😊 Thank you for your comment!

    I just wanted to say that I discovered your channel through TH-cam recommending me this video today and wow! I love your style of filming and obviously all the art content. Especially your first video really inspired me to start practicing more and not feeling weird for not being able to make things absolutely perfect with colour mixing on the first try. Super helpful and really fun and well done videos! And I think now I will have to save up a bit for more art supplies since these coloured pencils look amazing! From one Berlin based artist to another, keep up the great work!

      Your comment makes me so happy in so many regards! The best thing I can possibly get to hear is either that I was of big help or that you are motivated or inspired! I am a chronical overthinker and often times it prevents me of doing art or just experimenting in the first place, but we need to remind ourselves to overcome that, I love hearing that message so putting it into practice and sharing it with others is something I strive for. I am also happy because now I discovered you! I am at work at the moment but I just peeked at your channel and so so glad because you are such a skilled artist, now I have new things to watch! Wow...❤️ Nochmal hundert tausend Dank und riesen Drücker! ❤️

If it's your passion, it's no different to playing golf or whatever. I'm sure you work hard for your income. So don't feel shame, enjoy your supplies. You've worked hard for them. I also have shaky hands and that pentel pocket brush pen is like a challenge I keep trying to conquer, haha! But really, my favirite is the Kuretake extra fine tip brush pen, it can create really delicate lines but not too flexible that it's difficult to use.

      Somewhat relieving to hear I am not the only one, having shaky hands sucks. Pentel pocket brush pen just isn't made for us, or anyone who draws on small sized paper :D I also like the Kuretake! My absolute Favorite is Kuretake Zig, unfortunately the ink is watersoluble ah well

    So happy you are back. I grabbed my tea and gonna watch this,I can't wait to see what you got!
    Just started watching and will edit my comment once I finish but I have the exact deleter sketchbook : it has 17 pages of 135 gsm paper if I remember well. I don\t recommend it for wet media, but you can get some interesting effects with pencils/copics.
    Deleter makes some really great stuff for manga artists - their inks (the white one #2 is the best opaque white I ever tried) are really good if you use pen nibs for lineart and the deleter manuscript paper is AMAZING for blending copics (it's what a lot of illustrators in Japan use and personally makes a BIG difference on how copics blend ).
    EDIT:
    Congratulations on all the new and exciting art supplies you got! It's such a slippery slope and you're definitely not the only one who treats herself every now and then,so don't feel guilty!
    I'm pretty much the same, I don't spend $$$ on clothes or anything else anymore, so getting some new paints is acceptable and it actually lasts you a while (unlike makeup for example, which expires and can be quite expensive as well).
    I think you'll really enjoy those brushpens, the pentel ones are great and I think the one you got is a staple for manga artists, plus they come in a lot of shapes and sizes. The ink lasts forever and they don't dry out or leak (at least from my personal experience). I do find these brush pens have a learning curves and can be VERY VERY intimidating lol.
    Btw they are called "fude" or "fudenosuke" means "ink brush" ,so it refers to that brush-like nib as well.
    I think you may know that they work best on bristol and vellum smooth paper (like the Canson Bristol , Deleter paper etc) , that really smooth,silky paper. On more absorbant papers the ink can feather and you can get some nice effects,so experiment with them!
    If you like waterbrushes definitely check out the Tombow ones (they come in 3 sizes) - they are quite cheap and great quality. I don't know what magic japanese people do to make such great art supplies especially for such prices,honestly.
    Ooooh, Nicker poster colors! Those are seriously great, they have a great color range and blend great! Their lilac color (Heliotrope) is TO DIE FOR. Plus those little jars are so cute.
    Please swatch those liquid watercolors,the new Schminkes and the Holbein (normal) Gouaches! I'd love to see how they perform, as I'm yet to get my hands on some of them.
    The flashe paints from Lefranc are similar to opaque acrylic paints indeed but they have a nice finish and smooth (?) feeling. I don't really know how to describe it but you'll probably understand this once you use them.
    As for pencils, I still this the color selection for the Caran D'ache is extremely well curated, they have some really interesting pale/pastel/muted-ish colors, which I see you have purchased as well. And,as everything Caran D'ache, they're stupidly high pigmented lol. I honestly think you might enjoy the Neocolor 2 , watersoluble pastel pencils , it can be so relaxing to work with them since every bit of pigment dissolves when you add water and you don't get that graininess that some watercolor/watersoluble pencils can get.
    I'm curious how the Schmincke gouaches compare to the Holbeins or Winsor&Newton, if you have and input on this I'd love to know.
    Keeping my fingers crossed for a swatch video soon!

    Hi Moni. By chance I found this video. What fun to see your haul. I also have a hand tremor and have also been trying to conquer my Pentel brush pen. I havent had much luck with it. I am a beginner watercolor painter. My tremor makes painting a challenge, but I really like painting small…usually 5” x 7”. I have also attempted some miniature paintings the size of a euro coin. It’s fun. I just accept whatever shaky lines I end up with. It is nice to know I’m not the only one with this shaky challenge. I just subscribed to your channel and hope to see your work.

      Debjani, so great you visited Berlin! I dream of going to California, you have so many exceptionally creative people there I find! If you ever visit Berlin, definitely go to Peters Art! It is like ground floor apartment that they turned into an art supply store! There are many small rooms and each one as well as all the corridors, they are all for different categories! Acrylics room, Oils hallway, watercolor living room, Papers and Notebooks guest room etc.! It seems small and cozy but it actually is t small at all! They sell what art nerds are into, not the stuff you see in conventional art stores. They seem to know us artists very well 😆 Also, the owner is polish, and so is his staff. I come from poland so it’s always cozy and homey to hear people speak in my other language. Gerstaecker is an online store and I am not sure wether they have a physical store. Anyway, thank you so much for your praise and feedback and after I am done with the upcoming swatching videos (and the studio tour) I will get back to actual painting! I want to experiment lots to find my voice and expand my skills and I will gladly share that with you! I love watching other artists journeys! And I love hanging out in comment sections of art videos as well, that’s where the real fun is imo!

    Great video! I would love to see you swatch out all your new paints..I dont mean review them, just swatch each one in real time with the name and pigment info for each included. I know this sounds like a lot of work but swatching videos are incredibly popular and desired and most every artist i know loves watching people swatch their art supplies so we can see whats out there and experience art supplies we might be interested in...some artists on youtube even monthly or weekly swatch out their favorite art supplies that week which always gets tons of views and lovely comments...BUT either way, I would love to see you swatch out your new paints in real time with the names of each paint included so we know what color you are swatching at the time; especially the Schmincke, Daniel Smith and Holbein:) Anyway thanks for sharing and much much ❤

    I got my Schmincke Aqua Drop this week, and I was disappointed. The ink dry-shifts a lot (madder red starts as deep red as you lay the color down, and by the time it dries, it's potter's pink-like), colors are not as bright/strong as other inks, and it is streaky! I did one painting that looked ok I suppose, but in the swatches, the difference between Aqua Drop and Daler Rowney's Aquafine, EColine's and Rohrer & klingner inks is massive. On top of that, ink that was dried in the palette and then re-activated had changed shape from liquid to liquid with small hard balls of dried ink, while all other inks reactivated properly, fully liquid. So overall, I was really disappointed by this product, given that Schmincke's rest product line is great.

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree with you! Filmed the swatching session and first I was impressed by the vibrancy but then over time the colors faded extremely! It was even more visible next day. Did not experience the dried ink balls to this extend, though, Rohrer & Klingner had it after 2 minutes or so. However, it has way prettier colours, it dried very nicely, colors look rich when dry. Did not expect this from Schmincke at all. Thank you so much for this comment btw, I only have Ecoline pastel coloured ligquid watercolor to compare it with so I thought that's just the nature of liquid watercolors, but now I see that this product is flawed

    I actually live about 40 minutes away from the daniel smith store, unfortunalty they closed the physical store last november which was so sad, you used to be able to make your own dot cards in the store and they let you put so much paint on them.
    But if you would be interested in doing some supply exchanging i can get the daniel smith paints for quite a bit cheaper than overseas, I also personally have about 60 tubes of daniel smith watercolor tubes, if there is a color you really want to try and I have i can put together a dot card set for you to play around with.
    Ive actually been looking for someone overseas who would want to do some supply swaps due the price differences and availability for certain brands.
    If anyone else would be interested in this, I live in the united states on the west coast in Washington State across the water from Seattle so I'm only about 40 minutes away from the Major shopping areas.
