  • In this emotional and compelling episode, I welcome Nicola Holland, wife of Mark Holland, who shared his story a few weeks back about the mountain biking accident that left him paralysed from the waist down.
Nicola delves into the ripple effect of Mark's accident on their family and friends, highlighting the profound grief and disturbance to their "normal" life.
Managing the situation with three young children added an extra layer of complexity and stress.
Nicola's narrative draws parallels to my own experience, which makes for an emotional conversation, and unexpected tears from both of us.
She recounts the terrifying moment she received the call about Mark's critical condition while he was in a foreign country.
She also shares valuable advice for others facing similar situations, underscoring the importance of seeking help, staying resilient, and maintaining hope.
Her reflections on the journey of recovery and adaptation focus on the positives and the love that binds them together as a family.
Both Mark and Nicola's story is one of resilience, love, and the power of support, serving as a poignant reminder of the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

We had so many similarities. From the uncertainty of everything, to missing my daughter’s second birthday, the grief of it all, the feeling that we should be grateful it wasn’t worse in spite of the grief, the change of emotional capacity.

It's unbelievable how sharing trauma can get people closer... And opens up the new horizon for the relationship. Nothing can erase that.
