I remember the late night ads for Ralph Williams NW Chrysler Plymouth. They'd run FOREVER. Seemed like he'd give a review of every car on the lot. That must have been a hoot - your talent show. In my neck of the NW we had the real car dealer clown show - Dick Balch. He came to my Jr. High. Balch went to Franklin HS in Seattle.
The late legendary Chick Lambert - Auto sales pitchman extraordinaire! Looks a bit like Gene Hackman in this B&W ad preceding the one he later canned for Bay Shore with his own dog on hood of the station wagon.
This one was one of his best. I also liked his Bay Area spot also on youtube. These were done to keep the salespeople happy, a few good laughs can do wonders for sales.
These commercials were never aired. They were done during the actual filming. It was basically inside humor, something never intended to air. Some comic relief during very boring sessions. Take after take.

His dealership immediately closed after his last Seattle commercial aired on June 8, 1971 following his seize. By the time of his closure, he had ten dealerships in total including five in Canada. The dealership here would eventually become a Toyota dealership under the name "Evergreen Toyota" that same year. Williams continued on with dealership advertisings later in the 1980s back in California.
I remember in the Los Angeles/Long Beach area in the early 80s, when Ralph was back on TV selling from the lot again. People all asked, "Oh, when did that SOB get out of jail?"

Michael Hraba Chick was Ralph's brother-in-law. He did a lot of Ralph's commercials in LA when Ralph wasn't around to do them himself...or was in jail for bad business practices (bait-and-switch,etc). Every dealership Ralph had,Chick was with him.
