    My dad used to frequent this old Church Inn pub. Next to it used to be the Essoldo cinema.. known as the the Scala.. Pendleton Church.my mum and dad got married plus my two sisters and myself. It is so sad to see these beautiful old buildings with such character and replaced with a sterile square box type building.. without a heart or soul.. in the days when we had the old houses and pubs, they may have been slums, but we had communities and caring neighbours. Nowadays, most people don't know their neighbours and sometimes it is best not to know them. Before Salford and the surrounding areas were smashed and rebuilt, we had nothing but we had a caring community and pride.. proud to be British and patriotic. Somehow, a lot of these feelings have disappeared.. I look at these pictures and videos with nostalgia from the 40's to 60's and feel a sense of loss. Thank you for your contribution and the revisiting memories..💖🥰

    Heartbreaking to see this. I have run pubs for the last 30 odd years, traditional ones that I have run in the old fashioned way, no bandits, no swearing, no trouble. I have seen people celebrate every significant occasion you can imagine over the years. I witnessed joy, sorrow and every emotion in-between and one by one they are being taken away from us. I recently retired and remember one last lonely night when everyone had gone home and I swear I could literally hear the pub breathe. That pub had its own soul, it was part of me and I was part of it and I miss it terribly.

      Such an interesting comment mate and I echo your words. They are the heartbeat of many a community sadly being ripped away from people. They are much more than a pub. They bring people together of all ages and are the backbone to communities. It’s so wrong what they are doing to the working class pub. They really do have a soul. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

    You are doing a fantastic job in recording and telling the story of these historic landmarks that are sadly being erased from our Manchester landscape in large numbers. It seems they want to obliterate our working class heritage on every level. Salford is such an important part of that heritage and the story of our Industrial Revolution, it was the city of grafters! They worked and toiled and at the end of the day, they spent their hard-earned money in pubs like this. It was indeed a community, a community of people and we should not forget them! I'm sure the Church Inn still had an important part to play in the community of today, but sadly the owners didn't. Just such a shame another piece of Salford's history is lost to the wrecking ball.

    Slowly but surely the government’s getting rid of all pubs like this, Makes me sick seeing part of England’s fabric disappearing at a rapid rate! Like you said, everything’s being centralised to the city centre’s where the prices are extortionate and the average Joe cannot afford the prices.
    They want the majority of people to be kept at home while drinking beer from the big supermarkets, sad future lies ahead!

    I have been putting off watching that video as I new it would be sad, so many of our pubs here in Bristol have also gone in the last 10 or 15 years and it’s the same in most parts of the country ☹️ and as you said city centre bars are not for all of us. My favourite pub the Downed Tavern has been closed since 2020 and I am constantly hoping to see it reopen as it always was a proper pub with a singer on weekends and not some gastro or earthy kind of place.

  • @paulayala4816
    @paulayala4816 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great video Anthony. Now that is just sad. Speaking from a civil engineering point of view, I often wonder about city planners, whether they do enough to keep old historical or buildings with character around. This happens a lot here here in CA. Too often city planners make grandiose plans for a "master planned" community and write-off places like this, instead of trying to upgrade and incorporate it into the redeveloped area. Some cities get it right, rezoning an area so older buildings can be repurposed into something new like the building I was in the other day in Fullerton which began life as a car dealership.
