  • This talk described the use of improvisational theatre and the practices within to bridge the gap between the community and the police department. God knows police and community relations are not ideal these days, and with the advent of social media and a divisive political climate, something needs to change. Murphy sites several success stories involving those who couldn’t be more different than each other coming together to see life through a different lens. The talk focuses on empathy, active listening, collaboration and trust. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Being worthy of one another's trust is a high caring, especially in the pandemic times, such a relevant work that needs to be done and amplified with playback theater. Thank you for your story and regards from Finland. I am now beginning to promote stories of dignity, diversity and inclusion with help of local playback theater.
