JIGAR MORADABADI
Ali Sikandar, famously known by his poetic alias, Jigar Moradabadi, graced the realm of Urdu poetry with his timeless verses. Born on the 6th of April in 1890 in Moradabad, he embarked on an unconventional path, acquiring an oriental education in Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. Initially working as a traveling salesman, destiny guided him to Gonda, near Lucknow, where he found a cherished friend in Asghar Gondvi. Jigar's poetic journey took flight under the tutelage of his father and the guidance of renowned poets like Dagh Dehlavi. His literary craftsmanship flourished, and he gained recognition as a prominent ghazal writer of the classical school. Known for his profound romantic themes, often intertwined with the symbolism of love and wine, Jigar enchanted audiences as an iconic mushaira poet. In 1958, his collection "Atish-e-Gul" earned him the esteemed Sahitya Akademi Award. Moreover, he achieved the rare distinction of being the second poet, after Mohammad Iqbal, to receive an honorary D.Litt. from the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University. His poetic legacy continues to inspire generations, with renowned Sufi singers paying tribute to his art through soul-stirring renditions of his Sufi poem "Yeh Hai Maikada." Jigar Moradabadi's poetic brilliance and influence extend beyond the realms of his time, as he remains revered by literary giants like Majrooh Sultanpuri and Faiz Ahmad Faiz. Even after his passing on 9th September 1960 in Gonda, his profound impact on Urdu literature endures, with festivals and celebrations held in his honor, commemorating the life and work of this masterful craftsman of words.

غزل کا مکمل اردو متن:
داستانِ غمِ دل ان کو سنائی نہ گئی
بات بگڑی تھی کچھ ایسی کہ بنائی نہ گئی
سب کو ہم بھول گئے جوشِ جنوں میں لیکن
اک تری یاد تھی ایسی جو بھلائی نہ گئی
عشق پر کچھ نہ چلا دیدۂ تر کا قابو
اس نے جو آگ لگا دی وہ بجھائی نہ گئی
پڑ گیا حسنِ رخِ یار کا پرتو جس پر
خاک میں مل کے بھی اس دل کی صفائی نہ گئی
کیا اٹھائے گی صبا خاک مری اس در سے
یہ قیامت تو خود ان سے بھی اٹھائی نہ گئی

baat bigḌī thī kuchh aisī ki banā.ī na ga.ī
sab ko ham bhuul ga.e josh-e-junūñ meñ lekin
ik tirī yaad thī aisī jo bhulā.ī na ga.ī
ishq par kuchh na chalā dīda-e-tar kā qaabū
us ne jo aag lagā dī vo bujhā.ī na ga.ī
paḌ gayā husn-e-ruḳh-e-yār kā partav jis par
ḳhaak meñ mil ke bhī is dil kī safā.ī na ga.ī
kyā uThā.egī sabā ḳhaak mirī us dar se
