    One thing to add about the Embiid comparison is that Embiid has a history of leg, and more specifically knee, injuries. I could be wrong because I'm the furthest thing from a doctor, but I've had the understanding that once you suffer an injury in certain areas on your body, it becomes easier to suffer an injury in that area. While Embiid has an injury history, Giannis has been one of those rare instances of someone his size being very resilient to injuries at worst he has gotten are the usual bumps and bruises you'd expect from any basketball player, but never really anything super serious like the one he suffered last night.

    • @arizjones
      @arizjones 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well he just suffered an injury. And things may not have completely torn, but they did stretch, and that leaves him vunerable to reinjury if he comes back too soon.

    Bone bruises come in different levels of severity. A bone bruise can cause blood to build up in the area beneath the periosteum (layer of tissure that surrounds the bone). This causes a subperiosteal hematoma, a type of bone bruise. An injury might also cause bleeding and swelling in the area between your cartilage and the bone beneath it. This causes a subchondral bone bruise. Or bleeding and swelling can occur in the medulla of your bone. This is called an intraosseous bone bruise. I have seen doctors rate bone bruises from one to ten in severity, ten being essentially a stress fracture. My daugter had a level nine in her knee, from a vollyball injury and was messed up for a couple of months.

    Love the videos Dr. Sutterer. Just curious as to the differences in Embiid injury vs. Giannia based on the degree of hip flexion that they are each in at time of injury. Is it possible that due to Giannis being in a much more flexed position, we can see his COG shifted forward leading to less weight being put directly down through the hyperextended knee that could have led to less damage than originally suspected. Just a question as to how the rest of the scenario could have played into the injury as a whole and how he did not cause any more severe structurally damage! @Brian Sutterer MD

    Your insight is very informative and helpful.. would love to have you as my care physician. About 2 weeks ago I suffered a knee injury as well.. prior to that, I had occasionally had singular click/pop sounds there in the joint, for example when coming up from a sitting position on the floor or something, never any pain, just a singular sound and I could resume everything immediately. But like I said, 2 weeks ago.. was just walking on the street, hoping to go shoot a bit on the court, and suddenly sharp pain in the knee, hard to walk, pain seemed to be more on the inside and discomfort when trying to straighten the leg. What could it be? After 2 weeks of some painkillers and ice, it is somewhat better, but still feels stiff and tight. Straightening is more or less okay, and I can walk better. But the mobility is still not there 100% I think, because kneeling simultaneously with both legs is not possible. Any hindsight, Brian?

    i hyper extended my knee so hard i bounced into a frontflip with my leg acting like a pogo stick. i didnt tear anything but my leg would overextended itself easily and be very tender. It took me like 3-4 weeks to recover.

    giannis is a special athlete from how aggressive he is in the paint. i’m glad he didn’t suffer anything super bad otherwise we could’ve seen the end of a career for one of the best basketball players ever. hopefully he isn’t hesitant because of this injury to get back out there when he recovers and be that powerhouse everyone knows he is.

    Hi, Dr Brian. Another good video and positive update on Giannis' condition. What are your thoughts on the ankle injury to Cleveland outfielder Josh Naylor? According to the medical reports, "Naylor suffered multiple fibula fractures and ligament tearing that need to be addressed" as a result of his injury Sunday in Minnesota. Doctors scheduled him for surgery on Friday.
