I've tried reading the Dune series I made it through Messiah but I've got to be honest I didn't follow a lot of what I was reading. When Paul gets the dwarf I didn't understand one damn thing until the stone burner went off. Maybe you could do a chapter by chapter break down of the books for us who didn't follow because I can't be the only one that reads it and thinks "What just happened"
Its tough. You have to REALLY pay attention, and then reread it again. When i read im like,, what happened in the beginning of the conversation? Because by the end of it, my brain has absorbed so much I am lost. Also it gets really deep into philosophy and abstract ideas, that you kind of have to read into them a lot. Rereading chapters seems like the best strat but even then I don't think I will completely understand a lot of it.
The Dune series is extremely overrated thanks to having 2, maybe 3 good books and then it goes downhill so hard, you're penetrating the ground and coming out the other side of the planet.
Another thing that is absurd about how the books describe the factions is not just calling them all “Houses” but basically giving whole planets of people almost identical ideology whether it’s good or bad ideology. It is very similar to how Star Trek did it when encountering new planets. They always meet like a small delegation that speaks for the whole planet somehow and phrases like “my people” and “your people”. Whether it was necessary for the story or not, it reduces realism
Cool moment in the book when Baron slaughters various minions who were conniving against him with Feyd, then gets Feyd to slaughter slave women he fraternises with in order to phnsih him. Utterly savage, unsure if PT2 will show this.
Baron Harkonnen doesn't fly! When will we finally get rid of this monstrous error? The description is however clear, The suspensors give him a strange jumping gait and he can actually hover "a few centimeters above the ground" he does not fly!
Stellan’s Baron Harkonnen is so much better than the Lynch version. Vladimir is cunning and calculated in the book. The Lynch Baron was a bumbling boob who seemed to lack even basic self control.
I absolutely hate the backstory added that meant his obesity was an affliction given to him. It totally takes away from his character, the Baron chooses to destroy those around him, he chooses to be cruel and tyrannical, he chooses to abuse and torture people, it makes sense that his weight would be a choice, that a man who lacks responsibility for his actions wouldn't care about how others saw him, wouldn't care that it impacts him negatively. His weight is a symbol of his greed, making it an affliction makes him look like a victim of circumstance. I know it was a 'punishment', but the person who gave it to him is just as much of a villain as he is, just in a different way.
What about the Baron's spirit being bound to a long-range anti-tank artillery rifle in the possession of a certain female vampire (you know how they appreciate their heavy firearms)?
As someone who discovered Dune through the new movie, all I wanted was more Baron screen time. Whether he was in the Anti-toxic pool or when he hovers (floats?) in air, absolutely menacing.

While you're moving around in heavy plated armour, how successful you think you will be against a nimble fast fighter that can juke around you and slice your exposed neck or other parts?
I have to admit something that long time fans might enjoy.
When I saw Harkonnen “rising” in the trailers, mixed with knowing about the sand worm merging, I assumed Harkonnen was actually part sand worm.
I did not expect him to be just levitating/floating. And yes, I had to be told who was in the upper corner of the room by the movie 😂
If I never saw Dune I would of thought this movie was action packed lol.
@21:15 Baron Harkonnen: *"Think, Feyd!"*
I get that reference.
Good video goes in deep into the lore.
Its pure gold for us fans
You do an amazing job of explaining DUNE. THANK YOU.
It's strange to think his plan only work cuz Atreides didn't have active patrols or it's army not wearing armor that is resistent to slashes.
The Atreides didn't even have ships on orbit as early warning. Even the USN at Pearl Harbor has ships patrolling the harbor during that fateful date.
That's what the doctor was for. He was an insider that made sure they didn't know The Harks where coming
@@AlexSDUit would have achieved nothing , they were betrayed from inside
@@cedriceric9730 It may not achieve anything but at least they wouldn't caught with their pants down like in the movie.
Even in peace time we have ships/planes on patrol or on standby.
gosh never realised the saga goes back in time. I read all the originals 40 years ago...
After watching your latest Dune video I’m compelled to rewatch all your other ones 👌
The best thing about @filmcomicsexplained, is I can hit l the like button before even watching the video..
This was a Great video. A tip of the hat to you good Sir.
Thing that bugs me about alia becoming possessed by vlad is I thought only men could access the male memories. that was the whole point of trying to create the kwisatz haderach
@Ben LaDieu yep. That's what happens to me. I'll have to reread it thanks.
The Dune series is extremely overrated thanks to having 2, maybe 3 good books and then it goes downhill so hard, you're penetrating the ground and coming out the other side of the planet.
Hopefully in Dune Part 2 the Harkonnens get the same amount of screen time the Atredis got in Part 1.
Agree. Dune 2 should be Harkonnen focused as Dune 1 was Atreides focused.
@@sectorgovernorthey got a lot more screen time
Love the video can you do the Blight from izombi and Mr Du'Met from the devil in me
Adding it to the list!
9:28 I love the way he looks there. I wanna be like Baron Vlad Harkonen. Making Rubber Spider Pets and junk. Love it !
Yeah!! NEW DUNE VID!!!
Great video. Btw I finally saw the new Dune movie and I love it. It is an amazing movie.
Awesome absolutely awesome! Loved this background of an incredible character of this fantastic story. Thank you.
THANKS NIAT!
Paul Atredies ended up a worse monster that Baron Harkonnen ever was, it must have been in his blood.
Id love to see you do a video on the Honered matres and or Miles teg, i think both heir stories are facinating.
Yes. I say Yes to this. Please Cover Duncan Idaho 😎
Now(film comics voice) I don't usually comment..but this one was REAL GOOD..thx
The background of the name is kind of funny 😂
Finns accidentally antagonized
Be careful slandering the Baron, he'll have your heartplug out if word gets back to him
Cool moment in the book when Baron slaughters various minions who were conniving against him with Feyd, then gets Feyd to slaughter slave women he fraternises with in order to phnsih him. Utterly savage, unsure if PT2 will show this.
The cinema release has the baron spitting on Leto, which is mysteriously removed from the Smithee version. Which is probably why Lynch disowned it.
Did anyone else notice the Baron when he is really tall looks like a certain god emperor?
I regret not watching this in iMaxx…
Suggestion: Maya the shape-shifter from Space: 1999.
"The Genocidal Tyrant of Dune", Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?
Niaddddddd youre back!!!
New barron was perfect
Would you do a review of the recentish Dune game. I saw that there were several screenshots from the game. Amazing content as always!
Duke Leto Atriedes never marries the lady Jessica this is his greatest regret.
I fuckin love this channel. Subscribed
Baron Harkonnen doesn't fly!
When will we finally get rid of this monstrous error?
The description is however clear, The suspensors give him a strange jumping gait and he can actually hover "a few centimeters above the ground" he does not fly!
Dude, thank you for these.
Just found the channel. Great content. I would suggest getting a better mic though.
GREAT choice of MUSIC!!!!!
Stellan’s Baron Harkonnen is so much better than the Lynch version. Vladimir is cunning and calculated in the book. The Lynch Baron was a bumbling boob who seemed to lack even basic self control.
Will u still do cybersix and the oni from Urusei yatsura?
Can add that to the list now!
@@filmcomicsexplained I can't wait to see you masterfully explain it
World-class video as ever!
