  • Asmongold watches a video by dodgykebaab, who breaks down what in his opinion was Blizzard's worst decision in bringing World of Warcraft forward, getting Expansions wrong. Especially after the release of the Shadowlands expansion it is clear how an infinite amount of features from the previous WoW iterations are being abandoned just to release new unfinished features. The insane subscribers drop off just months after Shadowlands release brings also the infamous question to the forefront, is retail WoW Dead!?...

      You'll pay for the new content too, in the in-game cash shop lol. It's kind of like the Swedish taxation system, where first you work for money, and one third of that is payed in tax, then you buy stuff in a store, and a fourth of that price is tax, then you get your pension from your tax money, a pension that is ridiculously low, and you still have to pay tax on that pension, in the end you just pay tax upon tax upon tax. You even had to pay a fee to pay your taxes before.

I don't see why people get this upset with blizzard about this, it's corporate, they're aiming to make the most money, why would they keep people employed that work in departments they're cutting?

      @@anony88 No, you didn't earn a right to play on a private server. It's illegal, it'll be illegal forever. The other option is to quit the game forever and invest your time to something else. No matter how much you are upset at Blizzard, the game is still their product, and no one has the right to play it illegally. This is not being a Blizzard shill, this is having a proper and honorable attitude; unlike your piracy-loving, arrogant, impudent, shameless and brazen way of thinking. If you are angry at Blizzard, that's perfectly fine. But to think that you have a right, you have earned a right to play it on illegal servers? That's not.

      @@anony88 Those income numbers are in the past. WoW is nowhere near that subscriber count anymore, not by a long shot, hasn't been for years now. They're still making money, otherwise WoW would no longer be available to play, but again, nowhere near the 75 million $ monthly that they used to get.
      The "right" to play a private server is purely fictional. The IP is within Activisions possession, and no amount of time spent on WoW will ever change that. Play whatever you like, but don't try to justify actively acting against globally enforced IPs with hours played, that just looks OMEGAdumb.
      Also, again, please understand that the prime directive every large corporate operates under is to make as much money as possible whilst investing as little as possible. You don't have to like it, but calling Asmon a shill while he's giving Activision shit for basically every decision they've made since BFA is going overboard. :)

People, in the middle of excitment for new content and out of emotional attachment to the game, forget to ask themselves if they are having fun with the game or not and what the game offers you dosen't feel like ... FUN at all it feels like a chore, a necessity to get the content done. A HUGE overhaul is what the game needs honestly, a breath of fresh air with the core elements of the game. World, class design, progress those are the 3 main pillars that blizzard seriously needs to make them work together and make the game work fun, the reliance on temporary unfun systems are just a doze to keep the players around until the next raid or content update woohoo I got purple stuff that won't matter next patch ... yeah ...

      Realistically I don't think there's that many great solutions for pure power based players like yourself in WoW specifically which is a huge letdown. FFXIV helps encourage some of this by providing certain progression tokens if you queue for older dungeon content daily, but it's way harder to find people to do old raid content unless it's for certain cosmetic or collection reasons. Ultimately, I think the most successful systems for purely chasing power long-term involve some sort of RNG drop/crafting system. If you look at ARPGs, most characters can continue to increase their power level past what's needed to easily clear everything, and it's because they have a lot more relevant stat pools to draw randomized items from, so chasing the "Perfect" items is a goal to chase. I could see a similar system rolled into WoW, where running certain older content could grant you items to let you reroll or weight the stat rolls of items at the end of the most recent raids/dungeons. You could easily even make a weekly list of old dungeons/raids that give you this new currency to keep it fresh week to week. Unfortunately, items in modern WoW are set to always have your perfect stat combo so they've limited themselves to only increasing values instead of making interesting gearing decisions. Honestly, the big downfall of modern WoW is in it's linear itemization.

Why do people leave? cuz they don't like it anymore. The fact that he cares that bobby is making 1million less because of these servers, just based on a future that will prob never happen.
    Hell, they still firing people now. On March of this year, they let go of over a dozen people. Even though they were doing even better now thanks to the pandemic. So basically, most of the expansion doesn’t invalidate your gear until your nearing the end if you got the best stuff from the end of the previous expansion. Feels good knowing you can still get a lot of mileage out of your old gear for a new expansion.

      ESO does it even better: u level up to level 50 (max level), then level to champion level 160 (an accountwide level that gives u bonusses for all ur characters) and all the gear is capped at champion level 160. Meaning u can farm whatever set u want for your build and keep using it for as long as u like. Meaning u only farm once for the sets and makes u able to have multiple builds per character for different kinds of content and making u able to focus on actual content, rather than grinding for gear ^^

    • @luksp96
      @luksp96 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is exactly the same as how WoW handles gear.
      If you're geared from the last raid of the previous expansion, most gear won't get replaced until the last few levels of the new level cap, and some items (like trinkets) probably won't be replaced at all until you start doing some dungeons from the new expansion.

      @@luksp96 is that post Wod? Cause I remember from bc to wrath, wrath to cata, mop to wod[ took a break pre mop launch, and quit after wod] that some of my gear would be replaced within a level or two, I know if you had the heroic stuff it lasted a bit longer, but barely a level or two is not a lot of mileage in a expansion that's 10 levels[ the ones with 5 last a good bit more].
      I wasn't a endgame heroic raider but I did do some of the last raids normal and even that stuff went out the window from the first dungeons gear or blue quest drops.

    • @luksp96
      @luksp96 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Loyd64 Idk. what game you played but this has been happening since like Wrath, even kinda in TBC if you had Naxx gear or something like Thunderfury for example.
      It's been fairly known that Tier 7, the first Tier of Wrath, was cleared with people in mostly Sunwell gear (part of because the Tier was so easy) and some world firsts in TBC the tanks had Thunderfury equipped because it generated more threat I believe.
      Sure, you would replace some gear in the first 2-3 levels, but most gear you wouldn't, even if a piece like a chest is better, you sometimes wouldn't replace it because you had that tier set bonus still from the raid so you would wait until you get more pieces before replacing them.
      Look at SL, if you've been playing BfA and were geared. You wouldn't replace your neck and your azerite pieces well into being level 60 because they just gave so much stats that the pieces from SL were just so much worse until you got one from like a mythic dungeon.
      Point is, if you're geared from the previous expansion's last raid, you would always wait until you're almost finished with leveling before replacing most gear, and as I mentioned, in the case of specific items like trinkets, you probably wouldn't replace them at all before hitting the new level cap.

    Of course the guy who makes a living off retail WoW and incentivizing people to subscribe to the live service of a multi-billion dollar company is going to take a position against private servers and diminish their importance in fueling the drive to have old world servers available. The petition was almost entirely born out of private servers and the problems facing their running, as Blizzard was actively and ramping up their efforts to shut servers down, thus the major outrage once Nostalrius was closed. Active retail players, like Asmongold, were not only disengaged from that wing of the community but has openly stated he in no way participated in those communities and was even reluctant to do so. Naturally then he can use that distance to claim that somehow Blizzard's actions in response to all that leading to the creation of classic was a so-called natural progression, but this is blatantly ignoring the "You think you do, but you don't" policy Blizzard proudly proclaimed only a few years prior and showed no signs of budging until the petition emerged and the Nostalrius team pushed the idea directly to them.
    Blizzard is in no way responsible for Classic, the community is. Asmongold is little more than a shill for a company of the game that make him the fortune he gained by sitting around semi-AFK with the game in the background as a permanent advertisement to it. He can say what he wants about the state of the game and Blizzard's decisions, so long as he keeps coming back to pushing the paid service, nothing else matters. He will never truly quit the game or oppose the company, because it would be driving a wedge between he and his primary financial engine. This is why he will never support private servers, it could severely damage his relationship with Blizzard, the community's opinion of him doesn't matter because it's Blizzard with the power to shut down and censor content creators, not the community. So long as he doesn't violate acceptable codes of conduct via streaming, he'll happily trash anything that doesn't inherently make him money. Private servers? Fuck em', gotta go pay for those 58 boosts ;)

Would I continue playing in blizz tbc if private servers wouldn't exist? Of course not, private servers do not offer a "better choice" to me, they give a very specific alternative, that can not be provided by Blizzard. And I didn't even get into the monetary aspect: If someone can't afford to play Blizzard's game in the first place, then how would he rob them of money by playing on a private server instead? I understand that actively supporting private servers can be harmful, but they have clearly shown that they could just slap down the more dangerous ones if they need to.

    I'll be honest, at this point in time, when I look at it - Timewalking, picking which expansion you wanna level in, transmogs, mounts, pets, achievements, There are a lot of things to go back to... I think the problem arises with veteran players, because the fact of the matter is that those people pretty much got all the things from the expansion while it was live, so for them there really is no reason to go back unless for nostalgia. I think if Blizzard added new rewards that you could get from previous expansion content, that would maybe get more people back in the old zones.
    Hell why not add like a weekly reset crate for each expansion - so scale the dungeons/raids more or less to your level so it's not one shot, and then make it so you have to do like 3 dungeons, 2 raids or something like that, and boom you get a crate which has a handful of useful items, like say gold, materials for your selected professions, a rep bonus for current factions for an hour or something, stuff like that. And each expansion has a crate that you can get every week. This would not only give players who already are grinding for mounts/transmog etc. but also maybe give a reason for even veteran people to revisit old content.
