Great reaction! They are awesome at taking a standard Christmas song - or any song really for that matter - and turn them upside down take them apart and put them back together in a way that no one would have ever envisioned! They are my favorite group - A cappella or any other style of music - they are just the best!! And they absolutely love what they are doing and you can tell!! ♥️

Their version of Little Drummer Boy is my favorite version. They did it very early in their career and it was part of how they started getting noticed on YT. I highly recommend it. 😎

The first Christmas video, but not the first.
They are the best at what they do with Christmas songs.
They have the talent and uncanny ability to take all these tired old classic standards and breathe new life into them while honoring the originals. Always a pleasure witnessing a new Pentaholic discover their magic. You can’t go wrong with anything you pick but seriously consider reacting to their cover of Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy”. A classical, orchestral ballet piece with no words performed by a band with no instruments. It won them their second Grammy!

This is one of their "upgrades" that I absolutely adore! And I find myself singing the PTX version when I'm listening to anyone else sing it, and I break into their original section of the song - people must think I"m nuts LOL!!!! Little Drummer Boy is another that I do that with - give that one a reaction, you'll love it almost as much as this - if not more, I promise!!!!

You said PTX changed "12 Days of Christmas" for you, forever. I think PTX has changed every song for me forever. Their arrangements are so good, their singing is superb. I loved your expression when Kevin started beat-boxing, I think he has a whole drum set in his throat, including the cymbals!. Also loved your smile when Mitch first climbed up to the bellfry. PTX always pays homage to the original and then they take off into another realm. I only discovered PTX in October 2020 with Hallelujah, so you know what an impact that was. Happy to watch your reactions as I love seeing people see their songs for the first time. Also helps me as I am still discovering their body of work.

Thanks for your reaction! A reactor years ago said Pentatonix doesn't do "covers", they do "upgrades". In my very humble opinion, this fits that category.

This was from their 2017 Christmas Special and was Matt's first public performance with the group. At think, at this point, he was "filling in", but quickly became the new bass.
I love their live version of Jingle Bells.
I absolutely love great Acapella regardless of who is doing it but I must say, Pentatonix Xmas music is in a class all it's own. I can write PTX Christmas in Pandora or other music aps & I will get every type of Christmas music. I love all of their music but to me, nothing shows their versatility as much as Christmas music.

So I’m following you thru your PTX experience. Looking ahead, since I’m late to the game on your reactions, you should check out Evergreen. For starters there is a Making Of video. A must to appreciate their love of music, pleasing our ears and hearts, working together and each other. Then there is a video of their tour.
It is the first recordings and tour post Covid. So they were over the moon getting to be together again and in front of their fans. The one of the tour is behind the scenes at each performance and something from the show. Gotta see it, even if you aren’t able to react in real time as they are lengthier but can be seen, edited for comments and let us share it with you. Keep it up

Cute, each putting in their own little tweaks and style enjoying themselves. Old carol made new yes. Hard to listen to the older more traditional versions anymore.
One thing is true about PTX. You always want more! Am I wrong?

Here's how they make the magic: They create a new chorus, they bring in a complicated underlying beat, also original. And oh yeah, I almost forgot, throw in two or three chord changes, each time rising and driving the momentum. These old Christmas songs (carols) are boring and draggy because they have been sung ponderously, painfully slowly, and repetitiously, so the same melodic line, no matter how good the first time, becomes old and boring well before the final coda. That is their magic -- make a new chorus, give it a lively tempo, drive the action by constantly elevating the musical signature, and do it all with a precision that is nigh to impossible!
They didn't do just cover's they upgrade the song.
