You'll probably see this multiple times in the comment, but Inigo vs Wesley in the Princess Bride. Still is my favorite fight sequence. Not only was it decent sword fighting but it had great dialogue. Just surprised it wasn't mentioned since it was basically the progenitor of the Pirates of the Caribbean choreography.
True, but remember Princess Bride came out in 1987 and most of the popularized Musketeer movies came out after 1993. I was referring more to the over the top action with witty dialogue and unique personalities that you saw really become popularized after Princess Bride came out. I mean just about the whole movie is quotable as heck. Three Musketeer movies date all the way back to 1916 and I would doubt SnapJelly has seen many movies from before the 1980's that weren't super famous movies. Heck I would have loved to seen the Can Can fight scene from Stardust on the list too just because it was really memorable too, but it's not as well known.
It was an amazing fighting scene (and very symbolic). But it wasn't a realistic one from our sword fighting standards. It was a fight that was very well made and choreographed, to the point where it was a bit too much. :P
Troy, I give you that point. Its one of the greatest Swordfights in movie history and, of course, a very good example for the power of homers story. But please remember the Swordfight in Rob Roy with Liam Neeson and Tim Roth. Its a very good example for an authentic movie fight in general. Im slightly disappointed you´d not even mentioned yet ;)
Yeah, as much as the prequels suck, the fights are all great. I can't think of a single duel in the prequels that looks bad, they're all highly entertaining IMO.

Huh. Genuinely surprised that the Michelle Yeoh/Zhang Ziyi fight from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon isn't on the list, even though The Matrix sequel made it in. Same choreographer, similar concept (fighting with an array of weapons), but it tells a much more compelling story (Michelle Yeoh is a clearly superior fighter, but Zhang Ziyi basically has a magic sword). If you haven't seen it, and can get over wire work (which I'm assuming you can, because you liked The Matrix), then I would strongly recommend checking it out.
For Lurtz and other Uruk-Hai there's only a selected few who's able to command and able to be different. Such as battle of Helms deep, there's some berserkers who gave the defenders Abit of hard time, and even Legolas trying to shoot one of them down when running with a torch to blow the wall. Then there's the engineers who specializes in the ballista and bombs.
You might like the first fight scene of Grimgar. It's the most realistic fight scene in anime I can remember. It's how it looks like when rookies see combat for the first time. It's not about skill, but the emotional impact.
Oberyn was baiting the Mountain so the flips and acrobatics were too tire the Mountain down. He can't out strength him so his objective was too tire him down so he could make a mistake. Mountain is known as a hot head and the only way too combat brute strength is skill and speed. Bron mentions it as a strategy he would use against the Mountain when he talks to Tyrion in the cell.

Scaramouche, old movie with Stewart Grant. Saw it on late night TV when I was a kid. I think it was a 1950's movie set in France during the 18th century. The absurdly long duel inside a theater made it famous.
There is one swedish movie named arn templeriddaren wich is based on book by Jan guilloun. It has in my mind amazing sword fights. You should check them out. 👌

One of my favorite fights (not an actual swordfight,a knife and a shield are involved tho) is Captain America vs the Winter Soldier in Captain America: the Winter Soldier. It was quick,it was brutal,it wasn’t overly flashy, all in all pretty much exactly how you’d expect two super soldiers to fight in hand to hand combat
Lurtz probably had one of the potential of being a berserker, like from battle of helms deep where the berserks fight more crazier and is the first to meet the enemy.
Snap, a great source of inspiration for using the surroundings could also be pretty much any Jackie Chan movie. It is mostly fist fighting, but also a lot of improvised weapons. :-) Nice vid.
