I have really hated trying binding the past year but I buckled down and went all in with your technique and it worked! Finally!!! I can stop doing bands on workout tops and go to proper binding! It looks awesome. I appreciate your detailed tutorial!

Thank you for explaining that I need to stretch the neckband in the areas where the neckline curves the most, that helped me so so much!

So glad I found your channel! I'm getting ready to sew a tank for the first time (I'm fairly new to sewing with knits). Your video was super helpful!

Another amazing video. I think where most of us get hung up is using the pattern measurements for binding. Some are too short and it looks gathered. Some are too long and it becomes a wet noodle around the neck. Your tip about ease in the curve is another excellent point along with using your own measurements and take the measurement in the seam allowance. Priceless advice. Thank you Sarah.

Thanks for this. I’ve been struggling with doing a double binding on a petal T-shirt for weeks. My fabric is a nightmare and keeps rolling. I’m going to try your single fold technique.

This is such a great tutorial on how to measure and put on a seam binding. I hate math, and you make it sound so easy. I like to do bindings in the round too. I am starting a capsule workout project. This will really help me so I can decide just how long my binding strips need to be. I love that Greenstyle Endurance bra that I did last spring. It was perfect and fit pretty well. You are so motivating. I hope your little one is doing well. Thanks for your hard work and your motivation and insight for sportswear.

I can't wait to try this! I always have so much trouble with bands. This is such a clean looking finish. You make it look so simple and explain everything very well. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I don't have a coverstitch, yet, so I am curious to see the results on my regular machine.

Just for tutorial purposes you can make a video using contrasting colour for the binding. A little difficult to see the details with the dark material.

Thanks for the video! The issue for me is always figuring out the length of the strip needed (binding or band) to avoid any gaping at the neckline. I will definitely try this method!

My favorite parts: Measure on the stitch line, have the most stretch on the curves, MAKE sure your seam ends up in the back, single edge fold. This all sounds like good news to me! I have a Janome Cover stitch machine and yes I have to play with it, but I love the results. I use the clear foot which helps. I think I would prefer this method to double fold!!!! Thank you for all the tips!!!

I agree about lighter fabric but otherwise great tutorial. I’m also making a tank and was struggling so going to use the single fold method

The only problem I have is the black fabric makes it kinda hard to tell sometimes what exactly you are doing. But other than that great explanation!

I wish you used lighter fabric. It must be my eyes, but it was hard for me to see and follow what you were doing.

For the binding length, is it the same measurement as the neck opening? I've seen other videos that suggest making it a bit smaller than the neck opening measurement but how much smaller?

    • @mikhael1203
      @mikhael1203 4 ปีที่แล้ว

usually i go with 90%-95% of the opening

    • @maryann1187

Actually, she did suggest an 85-90% length; but after she started pinning, she felt that the neckband needed to be shorter. My preference is 80% of neckline.

Hi it’s extremely hard to see how much you turn under! Did you by any chance realise that there are sewers who do not have fancy machines but just one sewing machine without all the fancy stitches ? So your video is useless fir me.

Actually, I sew with a vintage 1935 Singer that sews with a singular straight stitch. Even this said, I could use this approach. Thank you for the video! ❤
