  • We're back again on the #mercedes #w124 (#c124) coupe, trying to wort out the rough running on the 1993 220CE.
Will a new fuel pressure regulator get the #m111 2.2 engine running right?
Or will I end up having to get a new engine wiring loom? (I hope not!)

sorry your having such problems with this. After taking mine to the garage they said its the loom as yours though they did a few fixes to the cables to allow me some time to save to buy one

Before replacing the fuel pressure regulator, it is important to first remove the fuel pump relay and start the engine. This will remove the fuel and pressure from the system, as it is very risky and can cause injury without proper precautions.

Thanks @nakebmohammedi for the tip. I didn’t do that - but I had left the car off and not run it for a few days before. I’d read that leaving it to stand will allow any pressure to fall. I didn’t have any issues luckily. Other than not tightening up the clip properly so when I did run it for the first time it spewed petrol everywhere! I quickly realised and the made sure it was fitted correctly. No issues now!

@@Gary-GKJ afraid not on the fuel pump relay. I’d have to double check on the car or the workshop manual.

Thanks - I’ll also take a look. Also think the throttle body spring could do with a clean and lubrication.

@@Beechams1042 your wiring looks ok…peel back around the front and injector’s and see if any copper is showing,.,., sometimes a complete loom is not needed..
Have you replaced the fuel pump.?
When was the plugs and coils changed??

@@redpig1120 the loom needed doing. The wiring had degraded as I doubled checked it before removal.
The spark plugs were done two years ago and will be done soon on the next service. Fuel pump seems fine - and it’s definitely sending fuel through but I’ll change the fuel filter as part of the service.
