In this video I manage to get my hands on a Hasselblad X2D which features the Hasselblad Xpan aspect ratio. This 24x65 ratio makes everything look amazing, except for ugly safety fences.
Luminar Neo comes to the rescue with its amazing new 'Genswap' tool that does a brilliant job of removing said fence entirely from my image. Let me show you exactly how I did it.
Roy refuses to lend me his Hasselblad loaner camera but I convince him it was all just a dream. Mother demands to know who left the skids. They're not mine!
We take a drive to magical Glencoe during a terribly rainy day where the miserable weather can actually deliver beautiful landscape photography bangers.
I somehow manage to fall in the mud right in front of busy Glencoe traffic but console myself with a couple of bricks of Scottish shortbread. It's totally worth the heartburn.
My next feat of wonder is to capture a vertical panorama of the colossal 'Three Sisters' in the heart of Glencoe during atrocious weather. It's a good thing it's not my camera getting soaked.
I don't mind bumping into fans who purchased my book but I take exception to sheep giving me just 3 stars. At least I didn't get rammed!
What do we eventually decide to have for dinner and why should you never ask for a sausage roll in Scotland? Why does Roy refuse to lend me his camera and will he notice that the Exacta has zero megapixels and takes no batteries?
There's really only one way to find out.

These stupid fences appeared during covid, not just around Kilchurn, but a whole host of Historic Scotland sites. I'm sure St. Andrew's Cathedral and Melrose Abbey amongst others were completely closed to the public in case someone died, and are still shut. They have all been crumbling for centuries and everyone managed to survive, but some consultant made a fortune by surveying them and advising that the public safety is paramount! Fences must go up! I've not paid HES a penny since to enter one of their properties.

The sunrise shot of the castle is gorgeous, such an amazing light! I'm a fan of panos as well, nice one there! I own an XPan, bought it over 12 years ago when the prices were still reasonable. Sometimes I think about to sell it and buy the Fuji medium format, which has also a 24x65 aspect ratio, but I'm too afraid that I'll regret it.

Hi Neil, camera bags are a funny thing. You always need the space inside them but the more you have the more you need. But if you buy a bag with limited space it makes you think about your trip and the type of photos you are going out for because every bit of space counts.
Love this video, always good to see what others use and take with them.

Ethical questions here for sure. I'm a bit of a purest. I'd never add a sunstar where the sun never shines through a tree for instance. The hideous fence looks like a temporary installation, as opposed to the power lines and tower in the background which are obviously more permanent. So well done and good call. I personally wouldn't have a problem removing a temporary fence, but I'd call a foul on removing the power line tower. The fence could be gone already, the power line tower will be there for the next 100-200 years. It's all somewhat subjective of course, and anyone can do what they want. But it's a slippery slope ending in AI just throwing together images and people bowing down to their Cyber Overlords. All things are not the same or equal...

    • @arnesl929

The maine issue for me is that it seems to add things (rocks) that was not there in the first place. Just removing the “temporary ” fence would be ok I guess. Adding things is to me for my own use not ok. But I have been leaning more and more towards doing just crop / basic adjustments. As it is then easier to know where the line is, and not go down the rabbit hole of software tools. But I am just a hobbyist, that sometimes put some pictures on the wall.

Really enjoyed the video Gary, always look forward to Sunday evenings. For anything you have uploaded. Some glorious views up there, you got a great comp of the castle, somewhere I’d like to go back to myself….in spite of the pylons. That’s the best spot where you and Warren were but I also took one of the approach to the castle which I will always treasure as it had our dog as the main subject looking back at the camera, a nice memory of him.
I have a feeling that house/bungalow on the right as you approach the Three Sisters btw was once owned by someone quite well known.

This camera is indeed vliss incarnate. You point it at a mountain and get beautiful enchanting woodland. You get more than mere sky replacement in camera, its latest feature of the future is - image replacement. I'll have one please! 😁

"Generase" is really the tool to use for the removal of small areas. It is amazing what it can do. "Genswap" is more suitable for replacing elements within a photo - say, a new background.
