Thanks for showing me I'm not the only one having difficulties with this. I completely lost my shit in the garage and had to walk away from it for the night.
@@TheBoltHoleBiker lol i bet! U should have seen my mental breakdown from trying to wrap my head around this design lol. In a way it has some benefits but when swapping plastics it's a major inconvenience. The fact we have to remove the forks to do the fork plastics is beyond stupid too. It's all part of owning a dirtbike though and it's part of the fun so f**k it let's turn wrenches and twist throttles lol.
Try not to lose your sanity because it happens haha u might as well do the rest of your bike maintenance because u basically have to take the entire thing apart just to do the plastics lol
Just bought my first ktm and removed all the plastics because I’m buying new ones. OMG KTM loves to be different. The side number plates are basically the airbox like holy crap.
Brother, it's wonderful to know I AM NOT ALONE. I feel that pain. It's exactly how my wrenching sessions go, except that you seem to have got it all done in one setting. Me? Yeah, at least a few. Over a week. Maybe longer.
Ha, ha, it is witchcraft trying to make it fit back on, to this day I don't know exactly how mine went back on, it just did... eventually, and that's good enough for me!😂
Worst design ever, I recently picked up a '14 350xcf and got new plastics and graphics and all that s**t and then afterwards started looking for the screws to try and figure out how to take it apart. It's pure insanity the way ktm designed these plastics. Who's idea was it to require someone to take apart the whole damn bike just to change the plastics? Anyways, thanks for making this video to help me see how far I need to go with this shit. Not planning on doing it again at this point.
@@TheBoltHoleBiker u should have seen me just trying to figure out where the damn bolts were to even get started on the rear plastics. It took me longer than I should admit just to get the fender off lol. When I'm done changing them out I'm going to ride those plastics until they die no changing plastics and graphics for fun anymore not with this bike lol.
@@TheBoltHoleBiker did u have trouble with the fit up on your plastics? I got acerbis plastics and the fit up is garbage and the air box cover on the filter side is all wrong. It's like not even close and now I have to ghetto rig it since I already had my graphics on but now instead of being able to pull it off and snap it back in it will have a screw and tie wire...pretty f'n pissed at acerbis for making it super wrong and u don't notice these things until u start putting them on....definitely never buying acerbis for this bike again nor recommending them for ktm. @@TheBoltHoleBiker I was gunna do the same and Matris suspension upgrade, thinking 890R now. As I might be able to wrangle a deal on a new demo, even if I've got to wait a manditory period n a few extra k's on the clock, of course after I've run it in for them first wink wink.
@@TheBoltHoleBiker I do think they are currently over priced, here in AU they're $19,125 ride-away +QS+TP+CC where I paid 12k for a new '18 790 (8mths ago), I've spent about 3k improving it. $17-$18 for the 890R loaded is about what I'd justify until then I'm sticking with the 790 n gunna do some track days to find its or my limit. lol
holy fuck, i disassambled my 450SMR 2014 more than 3years ago, cause i wanted to install my new black kit with my graphics, i made a real mess in my garage and since than i didnt touch it anymore cause i had to much going on to go on track and i remember the pain with the airbox, but it gave me hope to see you struggle aswell, so this year i will finally assamble everything again! did you need new rivets, cause i remember this was the thing which stopped me, cause i didnt have rivets for the new airbox

So glad you made this video so I can see how to do the hard parts. this plastics design is such a pain
No cutting out any issues. We're gonna struggle too that's why we're on TH-cam checking first. So it's nice to see real work

omg I started this yesterday thinking it was a 15 minute job not realizing all this.
Oh, yes, it's a doozy! I still have no idea how I got some of the panels at the back on in the end! Good luck, take deep breaths!
Literally same thought. It’s such a wanker
When you dropped the new black plastic I said "welp he got that outta the way!"
Nice vid mate I’m changing my plastics atm on my 350 and the rear fender is a pain to fit lol
