Glad Abby is doing better. They definitely shouldn't have sent her home on the same day she had surgery. Usually, after an appendectomy people are kept inpatient for at least a day to three days. Surgeons usually give IV antibiotics before during and a bit after surgery. They do this to try and prevent readmissions for infections etc. Everyone needs an advocate when inpatient. Glad Rachel was there for Abby.
We send patients home same day constantly. If there’s a hole in the appendix then you stay and stay on antibiotics but if it’s non ruptured you don’t get additional antibiotics and often go home same day. That’s standard of care
@jessw4038 I don't know of anyone who has gone home the same day after an appendectomy. That is probably why I never knew anyone having to be re-admitted after one either.
My appendix came out like 15 years ago so it might have changed but I stayed 2 nights
I went home same day as emergency gallbladder surgery, I was perfectly fine felt instantly better after surgery..also had double hand amputation in July and only stayed a week bc I had multiple surgeries in that week
They both felt overlooked, like they were sending you home without fixing anything or giving any type of answer. Like they all do, no healthcare in the last five years has fixed or helped or even tried to help me, and for that i said fuck those bills and fuck them so honestly I don’t think they made a bad decision and im sure they will be paying their bills like good citizens who got answers.
Rachel, for Stevie's constant urination outside of the litter box, I had a cat who did the same thing and the only way to stop it was to use distilled vinegar that was slightly diluted (you can look up the ratios, but the main concern is just that it won't ruin the material you have to spray it on; stronger is better). Let it sit for at least 10 minutes before wiping it up, and then see if Stevie continues to urinate there. She's picking up her previous urine scent, which you have to completely get rid of for her to stop. If she continues elsewhere, it could be behavioral, but completely removing the scent worked for my cat!
I am so glad Abby is doing better. I have missed seeing her smiling face at the grocery store. ❤

Glad Abbie is home safe and sound.
I’ve averaged out our at home coffee costs and we’re at approx .75¢ a cup. I won’t pay more than .50¢ for each K-cup so the additional cost is for cream & sugar. So it KILLS me to buy a cup of overpriced coffee out anymore.

Good to hear. Had appendicitis when I was a kid. Spent 3 weeks in the hospital. Had post operative infection. Before the days of laparoscopic surgery.

Agh when I had my appendix removed, the first day they had me walking around and the pain wasn’t as bad as when my appendix ruptured but it sucked, then trying to sleep sucked it was a constant dull pain, dunno if she had the one large incision or the 3 small holes but don’t let her left anything heavy for like a year to not risk a hernia

Definitely cancel the snowboarding trip. Abbie could develop a hernia if she tries to do a lot too soon after this. Maybe see if you can reschedule the trip for late February
For Stevie's urinating outside the litter box, she may have a UTI or it could be behavioral with what litter you use . So happy Abbie is doing better

I had an appendectomy when I was 4, and I had low white blood cell count as well, they ended up having to keep me for 19 days :/

Question. Not because I’m trying to be intrusive but it could help others. I know some people have had issues with being girlfriends/boyfriends when it comes to hospital things such as advocating making decisions emergency contact etc. Just thinking since Abbie’s family lives in another state. Maybe it is no issue since Cali seems to be more “up with the times” but just curious.
