Pinto Beans

  • 1 lb. pinto beans
    1 tablespoon vinegar
    1 ham hock
    Salt/Pepper, to taste
    In a bowl; add the dried beans, vinegar and cover with water. Allow to soak for about an hour or two. Rinse beans thoroughly and then place in a heavy pot. Fill with water and place ham hock in with the beans. Cook over medium heat for several hours until the beans are fork tender. About an hour before the beans are done, add salt and pepper to taste.
    Pinto beans flavored with country ham is a delicious meal in itself. We would have this growing up, served over a slice of butter bread with raw onions. It was so tasty. I hope you would consider making this for your family.
