I boil mines with onions, tomatoes, etc and save the water for a homemade broth for my soups and stews. Toss the fish scraps into my garden compost. Nothing goes to waste.
Thank you! This is great. I bought some really nice quality wild caught and smoked herring filets cuz they looked so tasty. I ate one as-is, which was good, but it was very salty and dry. I was wondering if there was another way to use them. This is perfect! I’ll try to exactly what you showed with the boiling water to rehydrate them and take some of the salt out. I’ll check out your recipes too. Thank you again! 😄👍🏻🐟
I remember roasting it. I would love to see the roasting version, plus i can not remember if roasting the smoke herring made it less salty . I would love to know
We soak it them remove most of the bones...YES, WE REMOVE THE BONES! Bone removal while it can be time consuming, it is pretty much very easy. I never smell it on my hands after I'm done, but that could be because I cut up strong seasoning that probably overtake the sent. I work with it as hot as my hands can take then I use a fork to shrewd it. End results is a less interrupted, tasty eat. I never understand how ppl can leave the bones in, they take over the whole food.

Trini said, "Don't worry, my sink is clean." Right on cue for the question that I had when I saw him picking up the pieces from the sink. Love it!
Where do you get boneless smoke herring fillets in London.

Washing your hands with baking soda will help take the smell away.
