Ingredients-
2 cups sliced onions
1 lb of roasted plum tomatoes peeled
1/2 habenaro roasted
optional- you can also add sweet peppers,carrots shredded, cabbage and chopped tomatoes to this.

Just wanted to say thanks for the receipe. I haven't made smoke herring in years. I added lots of garlic, bandania and scallions in addition to peeper, tomatoes and onions. Also added a hint a lemon juice. Tasted just like grandmas. Eating with some dhal and rice. Keep those receipes coming.

Natasha, I have found that boiling water and pouring it on the smoked herring works better. I find that when you boil it, the smoked herring falls apart and the texture is not the same. That's just me. I love this thing, but my husband and children don't, so I make it when I'm craving real bad. Not to mention I have to go to Chicago to find this....lol!!

An easier.way to desalt herring .is to soak overnight .keep changing water a few times.
Herring smells awful but it is very healthy! How do you store it in the refrigerator without the stench overpowering the other foods and drinks?

Just wrap it properly in Sara. Wrap and put inside of a Ziploc.
I do this all the time - no smell.OR you can freeze it.
Just add some pasta and give it to me :D

You did not do anything right onions are not to be caramelized and don't over cook the tomato.
