After Jack starts taking special classes that teach him about the real world (the depressing parts about the animal war and stuff), he realizes that he's suffering from these classes, but he's literally unable to hate them. So he starts forcing himself to carry onions around and cut them so he can cry, even though onions are dangerous for canines. So yeah that was kinda the joke in the video, Legoshi commenting on how positive Jack is, and Jack mentioning onions.

I feel like Season 1 was more 'We're using a character death to explore the social divide especially within the conflict of a teen wolf over whether he's horny or hungry for a rabbit, and how his desire to resist primitive urges is challenged by his friends and also mocked by the Deer trying to break the social divide but only for himself' then Season 2 is then 'Oh yeah forget all that, we realised we need to reveal who murdered this character, it was that one dude for cheap reasons. Also the Deer made a good Yakuza boss but now he's too OP so we must make it so he can't use that power to help a friend, and on top of that we're undoing most of the wolf's idealism on not harming other animals for the final battle'

I do like how the anime makes Gouhin seem more badass for just bringing a 35 lion group down to 25 by himself unarmed where in the manga he just pulls a machine gun and shoots them all up.

In the manga, the doctor shows up with a machine-gun. I gess that made things a bit easier for the duo, I still wonder why they didn't put it on the show.
To be fair, it was a wolf and a panda with a crossbow. They really weren't weaklings to begin with.
