At 4:13, how did you guys secure your framing to the roof support/rib that is different from the rest? I'm at that stage now and haven't figured out a way yet quickly looking at it.
Another question for you. Would you consider taking a quick pass(es) in the cockpit ceiling and gambling that you could put a “thin” layer on there, above the shelf. I know when I’m driving around in my sprinter, I feel like an ant in a magnifying glass in the sun. Is there such thing as making “quick” passes for thin foam application?
No sorry. It’s very simple though. Cut the roof liner just above the visors. And then install a sheet of 3/4 plywood that will sit on either side above the doors.
@@prestonthibo9744 yeah, I also installed a bracket above the rear view mirror and a 1x2 that runs along the front which kind off doubles as a border so things don’t slide off. It’s super strong.
@@prestonthibo9744 I believe there is a metal piece inside that I was able to screw into. Once you take the liner out, you’ll see what I’m talking about. I’d definitely take the liner out in order to cut it properly.
How is you spray foam working out for you? Are you getting any frost on the inside of the van where your paneling is attached directly to the metal framing of the van?
Did you have any problems with the foam bulging out the van body? Like, did it push the exterior body panels out at all or did you jave aby trouble with the foam. I'm planning a van build for retirement in the mext few years here, and I'm strongly considering spray foam, even though a lot of the van life "pros" say it's not the way to go. It seems to just make so much more sense.
Maybe missed it in the video but did you guys do insulation on the sliding door? I don't have a window like you do on the door in my van. Just noticed you didn’t do it on the rear doors either. What was your reasoning for that?
We insulated the doors using wool/styrofoam insulation since we cut out shelves. It’s tricky to spray foam the doors but I’d recommend it! There’s no better way to insulate
@@madetoexplore Thanks. I was planning on doing the spray foam as well, but then had people saying that it traps moisture especially in these metal can vans. Not sure I believe that but still hesitant.
@@madetoexplore Right on. I have the same van as you guys, do you think the 200 kit would be enough for a van that doesn't have the skylight like you did? Guess it would be pretty borderline since you ran out at the end
Great video got me subbed. Did you leave the bottom runners (where the floor meets the sides) free. Only heard some people in the UK doing this and Canada is a bit like the UK in temperature.
Are you in the middle of a camper van conversion? We’d love to hear from you!
This is pure joy to watch my friend! This is what I am striving for in my videos!
Thank you so much!😀
I wish I would have watched/found this channel before I started my build. Great job
Thanks!

We used corner brackets and sheet metal screws to secure the 2x2’s to the metal ribs.

Yes you could for sure! I’d do that last after having a little practice though.
Do you have any more videos or information about how you made your above the driver storage area?

Those two cross bars above the doors was enough to hold all your stuff? Do you feel the need for any middle support?

Is that bracket screwed through to the outside of the vehicle or just glued into place?

It’s working fantastic! Keeps us warm in -35C. Not that I’ve noticed.

We didn’t have any problems with bulging body panels. I would highly recommend spray foam!
Hey, this was a pretty cool video and quite useful to see. Thanks for the effort. Any thoughts on the foam a year later?
Thank you so much for watching! A year later we have spent many nights in -20 to -30 degree weather and have stayed toasty warm. We love it ☺️
How is the outside of the van is there deformation in the metal ?
Nope! None at all

@@Sugarkryptonite the spray foam bonds to the metal so as long as you spray everything properly there should be no air pockets for moisture to form

Thanks! What do you mean “free”?
@@madetoexplore free from insulation as they need that space for any trapped water that does get in there.
Instead of cutting the extra do guys consider melting off the extra foam
No the cutting was super easy!

I think cutting it off is probably easier and less toxic?
@@madetoexplore ofcourse it's less toxic , but melting it off is one time affair and the finish will be smoother
