Thank you for this video. So basically for the nut bolt, you just tighten with your hand at first till you can't tighten anymore. Then use the Allen wrench and tighten for one complete rotation. Is that right? I'm paranoid about breaking the glass.
I have the Model 3 roof rack. It's great, but as soon as I put the bike carriers up there it became insanely noisy and it kills range. The rack by itself isn't noisy though.
Hey Brian, did you ever try the surfboard attachment (the SUPDawg from Yakima?) If so, I'm curious if you are required to use their front strap for extra support, which kinda feels like a deal breaker for me.
How much range is lost driving with the surfboard at highway speeds? I saw a video that the bars alone don’t have too much drag, but need to know if I could still make a 180 mile round trip with a surfboard on top. My Chevy bolt, 240mi range but with a surfboard on the roof rack - I gotta drive 60mph both directions to make it without charging on the way home so I took it off and shove the boards inside but I don’t want that wear and tear on the inside of a new Tesla if I get one
Lift is not mass, it’s a force.... does not count as negative mass... Thereby, does not cancel out with the weight of the bars... The bars will add inertia to the car
So to be clearis the metal clip holding onto the glass or is there a little metal lip underneath the glass that it's holding onto ? I'm not worried about downwards weight pushing down but I am worried about the lift. If you have a big surf board or something and it's a generating a lot of lift that would be pulling up on the glass ? Especially if you're driving through a windy area but if there's a little piece of metal under the class that it's hooking onto then that should be fine ?
Thanks for the informative video. I Was wondering what the everyday sound of the roof rack without anything on it is like. I want to just leave it on the Y.
Thought you should put the tail "fin" first.... not sticking up in the back....when transporting a surfboard... (essentially surfboard or SUP tail to nose... not nose to tail....)
The ground clearance on the Y is advertised as 6.6”... can you tell us what the ground clearance is with the performance package lowered suspension system?
i1Tesla many thanks!! I was thinking it would be more than that and wouldn’t be going for the Performance upgrade because of that and the range hit... but for 3/4”, I will. I the range becomes too much of an issue later, I’ll swap the wheels.
I drive a M3 LR. I'm considering to order a MY when Tesla Berlin is finished. Is it possible to mount a roof box for skiing and still use the tailgate in a normal way?
@@i1Tesla This bar can actually hold a rooftop tent since most rooftop tents are below 165 pounds. Don't worry about the static weight when its parked, the ladder from the rooftop tent helps with the distributed weight, as long the bar can handle the dynamic weight of the tent, you're good!
Nice work, thanks for the video! With just the rack installed and nothing on it, how is cabin noise affected at freeway speeds? Will you be doing a range test with the rack vs clean?
Any info on reduced battery efficiency with the rack on? On my Hybrid my Thule roof rack reduced gas efficiency by 5mph. I asume we will get less miles on a full charge with the rack installed and even less with a load on the rack.
That's the what I wand to know . I think it can be anywhere from 15 to 30 percent range reductions depending on the aerodynamics of the Load. Around 20 percent on my ice cars.
This looks like a solid piece of kit. So, those markings on the glass are put by Tesla? I didn't know they made provisions for aftermarket equipment like this. Thanks!
@@i1Tesla I have a roof box that's about the same size as your board. :) Can you program the hatch to open just a little bit? (I think you can do that on the X)
Thanks for another great vid. Can you please advise, will my bike racks (Rocky Mounts TieRod, www.rockymounts.com/collections/rooftop/products/tierod-black) interfere with the hatch? Specifically, will I still be able to open the hatch? My Model Y is on order so I don't know about limiting the hatch open position. Thank you for your help.
who else is going to Monroe's video to see how the roof (and ankers) is actually made under the glass 😉 crap they didn't remove the glassroof yet, but we can guess those attachments go around the airbag screw, still weird that it only grab the glass and not the chassis (with the lift that something like a board would apply) th-cam.com/video/rGyBzSBcINo/w-d-xo.html
Even thought i dont own anything related to tesla i still watch your videos
Really nice job editing and showing how it would be installed.
Thank you!
This guy over here talking about his package. At least it has protection with PPF 😂
Awesome it comes with a tape measure to measure your package with :-)
Thats funny. I wish i added that

The car looked so good parked in front of that lake...
Damn Brian, you be distracting me while working at home with bad ass Model Y vids. Thanks, and keep it UP! ; -)
That's what I'm here for
Had to laugh out loud at the beginning. Bravo.
I don’t see the link for the product on your video and Yakima doesn’t show it on their website.
Impressive... I was so scared for you... But I get the idea now...It is smart.
The best how-to video I’ve ever seen. Thank you! And the wrap?? It’s not vinyl? I want, I want!
a big thumbs up for the intro lol
Woah 😳 that looks cool. You too stay awesome and stay positive Brian.
Thank you, I will
Great Video. Seems fairly straight forward to install. Thanks
It is

Kills it with snowboards as well. About 150 miles best case. ICE for ice activities always
looking forward to off-road model Y!
“That’s what she said” 😂😂😂
How about a sunshade stretched in between during the summer time?
I have a 14 ft Stand up Paddle. Considering the wind creating drag and pressure on the roof, will it handle legal speed driving?
What do you use to secure the paddle board to the roof rack?

test on efficiency with board on top please . How much of a hit will you take with various boards to range?
So the model 3 rack doesn’t fit the model y correct ?
Your surfboard is backwards dude. Fins go forward.
Lift is not mass, it’s a force.... does not count as negative mass... Thereby, does not cancel out with the weight of the bars... The bars will add inertia to the car
What is the distance between the roofracks on Model Y, and compered with Model 3? I guess longer distance for Model Y...a better solution👍
looks sick man
Where is the link to the actual product????
Tesla.com
@@i1Tesla lol arent you reviewing or installing a Yakama .... is that the one that Tesla sells?? I'm confused
Once again awesome video thank you very much 👍🏻👍🏻⚡️❤️
Glad you enjoyed it
That looks nice!!!
How long is that surfboard?
That looked like an easy installation, or am I wrong and it isn’t easy?
Very easy

The metal clips go into a channel under the glass. Nothing is clipped to or touching the glass
Am I limited to only Yakima Roof Storage Containers? Are there any other brands I can put on my Model Y?

That's an awesome roof rack. Have you checked you efficiency compared with putting the board inside and letting it hang out the back?
Hi from Germany! How long is that board? Would you also be able to also fit it inside the Model Y for longer distances and/or security reasons?
The ground clearance on the Y is advertised as 6.6”... can you tell us what the ground clearance is with the performance package lowered suspension system?
The Performance package only lowers the car 3/4 inch

So how much is the roof rack? Looks really nice👍 thanks for the vids brian.
450 from Tesla
I drive a M3 LR. I'm considering to order a MY when Tesla Berlin is finished. Is it possible to mount a roof box for skiing and still use the tailgate in a normal way?
In one of the other videos, there is a Yakima and Thule box that both allow normal opening.
Can it handle a rooftop tent?
No. It is only rated for 165 pounds
What do you think the impact to range will be?
Is the rack going to hold a roof top tent?
No. Only 160 pounds

Brian did you do the PPF yourself? Is it easier or more difficult to wrap than vinyl?
Nice video! Do you know if there is an after market rear window wiper for the Y ? Or the X ?
Not that I know of
It would be good if you can bring the tesla surfboard

Yes the marks are on by Tesla. They are on the 3 too

How much can you open the trunk when you have the surfboard on the roof rack?
Take off the board

how is the ride with the large wheels, stuff for a bad back for long drives?, or comfortable and soft?.
Video next week
Hey Brian. Are you 100% MY and M3 racks are different? They look the same. Different leg height?
They look the same but they are different sizes
@@i1Tesla ah okay. Thanks
Have you ran the model y through an automatic carwash like a sams xpress? Im scared to do it with the 21s.
I would never do that. I wash by hand
Thanks and thanks for all the videos! Love the wrap you got. Just took delivery of mine on Wednesday in Charlotte. Love this thing!
Can you use Yak bike rack accessories with the Model 3 roof rack?
Yes they are made by the same company
no noise test without any stuff on it? wtf
I makes noise
Does it break for red traffic lights on AP with the surfboard covering the sight of the front camera?
If you remove a rail, did the pressure cause warping to your xpel?
Haven't removed it yet but it is not on very tight
Funny episode 😄
Is the model 3 roof rack also Yakima?
Yes
10 thumbs up for the intro 😂😂
Thank you
Does that roof rack fit the mode 3 as well?
It has a similar one it's been out for about a year now.
Surf's up on that lake. :~O
Who needs to tint the roof? All you need is a roof rack and surfboard. 😝
Your intro reminded me of a Steve Martin bit😀
Your car has a nice Matt finish, what is it? 👍👍Thks for the funny vid
It is a stealth Xpel PPF Wrap. Paint Protection film
i1Tesla How is it applied , DIY? is there separate vid? If DIY, it is very professionally done !!
Roof racks are great until you drop your bike on the ‘“all glass” roof
Cosmetically they look really good though
That's cool. I'm off to listen to a Beach Boys song.
Stay POSITIVE not for Covid tho
Hope Y’all doing good
