Seeing my mom and dad, both huge U2 fans, dancing on this song yesterday evening just made me smile ☺ To me that moment of them both dancing together was a glimpse of their youth! Beautiful to see that

I was actually at this concert in St. Goarshausen in '83. I was serving with the U.S. Army in Germany at the time. It was a great show, especially at the end when U2 performed "40" for their final song, and the crowd continued to sing "How long to sing this song?" over and over again, even after the band had left the stage.
My favourite u2 song. They were at their best during this period. I met them a year after this concert, and Bono was a delight!

@DDslinky I agree their early stuff (considered "punk" at the time) was easily their best work, but if you get a chance to check a show don't miss it. I almost didn't go to this last show because I thought the same thing and I was pleasantly surprised. Greatest rock band ever no question

Some folks talk trash on Adam but he can play. Like I've always said you would never confuse him with the likes of a Jack Bruce but he's slapping & popping the crap out of that Fender.
He played one more song "Surrender" on that Fender before switching to his Ibanez Musician bass because the Fender had a fault where it had a bad buzz, as evident in this clip.
Thanks Rasta - didn't know that. That buzz is really evident on "New Years Day".

The Raw innocent Sound that was lost in The Joshua Tree. U2 had a fresh sound that the Edge was know for and he carried them to The Joshua Tree where Management got involved and took them into a new direction: the sell out direction of pop rock. U2 lost itself after the Unforgettable Fire.

@DDslinky I respectfully disagree, I think they continue to get better and stay musically relevant like no other band ever has. Their show in Denver a few months back was amazing even though I don't love the new stuff as much they played 40 and a bunch of other old school songs and it was amazing !

@jmpryor Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like their later work, I just happen to think that this early stuff of theirs is better and more to my personal taste, it's all subjective afterall. I would love to see them live again some time but I dislike the huge arena performances they do these days...I understand WHY they do it, I just don'e enjoy them that much.
Wish they would have stopped in 1989 and came back in 2000.

When Bono was a Christian. Now he replaces Lord, God and Jesus with "love", whatever that means.
The better question is what is lord, jesus, God... love is something real that can be felt...the others just words that are used to hate others.
