I have been wanting chickens for years so after it warms up I’m going to set up a coop with a small run that has fine mesh wire to keep them safe while they sleep and a bigger daytime run surrounding it for them so they can run around. I intend to just start with three chickens so a small 4 lay box coop is more appropriate for my needs but I eventually want to upgrade from what I start with to make it better over time as I can afford it.
Yes, we have six chickens and I wished I would’ve watched your chicken coop build before I built one that’s too small. I’ll probably need to build one like yours. Thanks for the information.
I have about 40 birds, chickens, goose and 4 turkeys, i also have jungle fowl, im building my chicken run now. My coop is very different than about 99.9% of most coops on TH-cam, it practically has no wood, its designed to stand up to a catastrophic hurricane.

That’s fantastic!
Great job! Use a billboard sign tarp for the roof of your run. They are very durable and heavy duty and you can leave it on year round
Oh that’s a great idea! Thank you!
I have 10 hens and I love them. I put corrugated plastic on top of my run. Its so much better now
Genius!!
You did a great job! Thanks for sharing
thank you so much!
Such a great tour and you are super informative!! Thank you :)
Well thank you sir! 😊

You are so welcome!
Gas struts to the egg hatch will work

Amazing!! Enjoy your birds!
I have 7 hens and 1 rooster and we love them❤we have not gotten eggs yet because they are still young
Oh they are the best!!
You should try industrial hemp for deep litter method, no odor.
I’ll look into it! Thank you!
@HeartandHomeCrew what you are using is perfectly fine lol
What paint did you use. Looks great. Cheers
I need to go back and check but I am pretty sure it was Sherwin Williams Polar Bear!
Great job on your coop. We have 4 chickens, But need to make a bigger coop. We live in Nova Scotia.
Thank you! That’s awesome! What’s it like having chickens through the Canadian winter?? We used to live in Ontario!
@@HeartandHomeCrew It’s cold here but they want out everyday lol Sometimes I shovel a path for them lol
@@shanehunt7228 haha I love it!
What was your rough cost for building this coop? Thinking of the cost of lumber and wanting to build our own coop. Thanks!
It was roughly $1,500. The plans say depending on your area it could cost anywhere from $900-$1,200 and wood prices were higher when I made mine!
@@HeartandHomeCrew Hi, is that for the run as well? Or just the coop?
@@pat4761 for all of it!
What is size of coop
I will have to go back and find my plans but I think roughly 3ft by 5ft? Maybe 4 1/2ft
What size is this coop?
5ft wide x 6ft deep x 6 ft 11 inches tall. Interior height is 5ft at the peak.
The lid should open on the front not top it will spook them
Yes that has happened 😅.
21 chickens and two ducks
Love it!
