    This is not just important for SI joint pain but helps solve many other biomechanical issues. As a Functional movement coach, I spend all day instructing clients on how to connect and strengthen their internal oblique on the left side. Thank you Neil, its good to know I am on the right track.

    Specialist here. 100% agreed. Over the past 6 years all clients I have seen with SI issues had extremely underactive obliques (as well as other systems of course). Activation of these systems did address their SI. I activate systems a bit differently than PRI (though of course there is breathing included), but I completely agree. Car accident led to all of my issues, almost the same as what you mentioned. Eerily similar actually. My own left side SI issues were 100% permanently solved by addressing my left obliques..and eventually my left quad/left glute/left arch/ etc.

    Hallelujah for you and everyone involved with the PRI research. Essentially what I am getting is, the more I FEEL my body, the more Balance and Rhythm I have and the more available options I have in my micro movements, the more freedom ease and safety I will have inside of my body. Thanks for giving us a rough roadmap/guidance on what to aim for when in the trenches of chronic asymmetry. Highly valuable for life and my job as a health practitioner.

      Don't waste your time and money. They take a lot of money to let you blow up a ballon or give you glasses/splints that you don't need -- so they basically have a limited tools and whether you fell of a plane or hit a bed, they treat you the same. They push into your head that only PRI can fix you, and that you have a teeth or eye problem, while the reality is most patterns are habitual and don't require and outer intervention. Your nervous system is more adaptable than you think and you can reset and train it back. Check for example, taro iwamoto, and thank me later.

      @@risenfromruin I've not practiced Iyengar, but it uses props, and holds poses for longer, whereas "Ashtanga Vinyasa" teaching is to modify poses for beginners rather than use props, and is a flowing practice with a rigidly prescribed and counted sequence. Both require clarity of focus inward, letting go of thoughts, and tuning into the body, but I like ashtanga because it's a moving meditation, without fuss between poses, and thus very graceful when done well.

Began with Excruciating pain had me screaming and bawling "Oh god what have I done"......then straight onto TH-cam to find help. then basic core and glute strengthening exercises soooo slowly as was so terrified of the pain but determined I had to do something.......3 weeks of hell THEN Progress..........youtube showed me a few more 'advanced' exercises and i'm just understanding more and more........then every 2nd week progress would halt............SO today 29 October middle of 7th week has been my BEST morning so far.........I'm bending great, just a mild dull ache but still stiff. I didn't Inflare in the afternoon like normal, so this has been a great day for me. I'll never take my physical body for granted again and boy do I care about me now. to be painfree, function and mobility. So - this youtube video comes up............was a bit difficult to listen to and GET but I knew this was very important and just stuck with it. I'm going to listen again tomorrow morning to this video THEN try these new exercises for my Advanced program.

    This has been an eye opening video. I havent found anywhere else this kind of explanation with posture and si joint dysfunction.
    You mention that the techniques may not work or work so well or as well if you've been a neck breather, if you're hypermobile, and ppl with visual or jaw and teeth issues.
    So my si joint dysfunction is due to injury. Confirmed ligamentopathy of my right si joint with a diagnostic ultrasound. Hard to find a doctor who performs diagnostic ultrasound for injuries but I found someone in Manhattan who does it. The si joint is unstable. It moves too much. So I guess if you can define that as hypermobile, then the joint is hypermobile but only because of ligamentopathy.
    Neck breather. Maybe? I have left rib flare and lateral right wing scapula. Classic left diaphragm small. Pelvic floor is tight. Left rib externally rotated. Right rib internally rotated.
    Jaw and teeth. I had my top and bottom right wisdom teeth pulled out as a kid. I'm sure that affects my posture. I got TMD/TMJ or some kind of jaw muscle issue on my right side due to a weird accident. I'll just call it that.
    So with all that said, will these techniques still help me and fix the issue? Or, it will just give the ligaments a break so they can heal faster by getting into proper muscular balance and posture?

    I’m someone who is hypermobile, and consequently my right iliolumbar ligaments are quite overstretched. Feels like prolo-therapy is needed at this point. I can’t get over to my left with diligent movement, but it’s a constant uphill battle, and any passivity (breathing while sitting, sleeping, etc) just pushes me back to the right.
    All that said, good training and giving yourself movement options keeps the body happy. No pain.
    More mechanical stress in certain places, sure. But we both know pain is more than mechanical. :)

Also it would be cool if you could do a video addressing people who are not right dominant. Either left dominant or more mixed due to being left-handed. For example, I'm left-handed and definitely left eye dominant but on the other hand I'm also right-footed. I have a lateral pelvic tilt where my right hip sits higher but in a way is also seems like my left-side is slightly more forward? it's hard to tell exactly what happeneing but there's also the very typical issues with APT - so I'm not really sure as to which side of my body I should be applying some of the things you discuss in your videos

    Hi Neal, hi everybody
    I had a very very very special PRI experience and I wonder if someone ever hear of something like this. At some point of my PRI program (when we started to do right Glute standing technique) my brain started to leading me through various movements and muscle contractions (overall of the body, even cranium) for about 11 months until now. The movements are not involuntary and not voluntary, something between of this. Like a very strong need and they are not random but they bring me more and more on my left side, had my left Periphery back, a lot of autonomic deseases desappear my sensible theet don't hurt no more and my pain and tension reduces every day. My guess is, that the pri techniques take away a certain stabilisatation in my body, and now my body has to go back to it's origin natural stabilisatation state. I have record some of the movements, and could send them if needed. Do I have to go to a neurologist or something, or will this movements stop when I'm stable enough? I hope you had similar cases. Thanks for your help. My PRI therapist from the pri website unfortunately never had a similar case, but suggested to stop the program until this stops.

      @TheGarugc 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alexAIC91 I had extreme pain all over my body for over a year and then some time ago I started doing three PRI exercises a day plus somatics exercises. I also did a kind of bodyscan every day, where I felt into each muscle individually. I did this out of desperation. After a few weeks, the symptoms you describe started. It felt like my body was signalling to me how the muscles should be positioned correctly. But since everything in the body was positioned "wrong", the muscles were probably being pulled back into the wrong position again and again. At least that's how I imagine it.
      Sometimes it happened all by itself, but often I had to consciously allow it to happen. For example, I once stood upright and mentally (bodyscan) relaxed a muscle on the right shoulder blade. Suddenly, a muscle in my hip on the left loosened all by itself and my upper body turned to the right all by itself - into its correct position. I had previously been slightly twisted to the left.
      My osteopath thought that these muscle twitches and autonomic movements were possibly also an overstraining of the nerves. That's why I didn't do any more exercises for a few weeks. Now the phenomenon has disappeared. The osteopath discovered two disturbances in my signalling chains (from the brain to the muscles). To eliminate these disturbances, I have to do certain exercises every day for two months. These are neurological exercises so that the brain learns to control the muscles correctly again.

    • @alexAIC91
      @alexAIC91 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheGarugc thanks for sharing your story, feels good to know that I'm not alone. Maybe I should check for disturbances in my signalling chains. But I get you right, that the autonomic movements reduced your pain and make you feel better?! For How long they appeared?

    • @TheGarugc
      @TheGarugc 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alexAIC91 The autonomic movements have not improved anything. I didn't do any PRI or somatics exercises for a few weeks. After that, my body calmed down.
      My osteopath has developed a method he calls neurobionomy. It's a great thing that is extremely helpful. I don't know if there is anything comparable elsewhere, but I can ask. He talks about neurofunctional therapies on his website.
      He says that PRI and Somatics are very good approaches that can help if used regularly. But not for everyone, as everyone has a different background. He says that the main cause is often disturbances in the brain-muscle signalling chains and not prolonged sitting or things like that. Trauma (a car accident or your own birth, etc.) can cause disturbances in the signalling chains. But what I can also recommend, because it is scientifically proven: stimulate the vagus nerve. Find out more about the vagus nerve and about exercises and breathing techniques on the internet. Ensure that your nerves are internally balanced and that your muscles and joints are balanced with PRI and Somatics. But don't overdo it with hundreds of different exercises. Rather do the same 3 exercises every day for 2 months or longer. This is the only way the brain can relearn the movement sequences. Neal does a good job and he is very helpful with his information.

My psoas tightens, right hip pops and snaps, femoral nerve irritation, and then my SI goes out. Especially if I sit or walk too much. I had a femoroplasty and FAI scope with a labrum microfracture 10yrs ago which never helped my QL pain... probably worse now long term. Had to quit my job over it. I also have left eye vision suppression and wanted to know if you had any thoughts on The Bates Method and the ideas of dynamic relaxation behind it. It seems very similar to what the PRI often talks about, but I know you are a strong supporter of glasses amongst other things, so I’d love to hear your take as a PRI practitioner.
    Also, I’d love to know if you have any recommended sleeping positions for people with the Left AIC pattern. I used to sleep on my side quite a bit and switched to my back, but sometimes feel worse because of it or struggle to sleep on my back.
    The last thing I’ll mention is I’d love to hear you discuss tongue ties at some point if you had any information there!
    Cheers! Thanks for all the great info Neal, you’re the best at it :)

It is the (long) dorsal sacroiliac ligament that has been plaguing me for years now, both during the initial injury and in my now 1st--and hopefully last--flare up. Even among SI Joint dysfunction, I was told that is an uncommon ligament to tear.
    And to be clear,when I say the si joint is hypermobile, I mean it's unstable because the dorsal SI ligament is stretched/torn and cant hold the si joint in place. So performing external rotation with a band (clamshells off the back) will move the si joint as I separate my knees during concentric phase.
    I understand that getting stacked, in proper neutral alignment and addressing muscle imbalances is a long term fix for si joint dysfunction. Breathing. Diaphragm. CNS. All that. I get it. But that doesnt heal the dorsal sacroiliac ligament right now. I want this to heal asap. I dont have years to waste. I already wasted almost 2 years before I was pain free after the injury (probably the PRP shot I took at which point I was somehow pain free 8 months later).
    So I poise my question to you: what can I do to heal a chronically injured dorsal sacroiliac ligament without having to seek out regen therapies? Or is what I'm asking simply impossible without seeking out shockwave and prolo/prp/stem cell injection to heal the ligament, get out of pain, and then follow the biomechanical principles to address my imbalances and misalignments for a permanent solution?

      @@inessiev I can’t quite remember what I said, however any type of TMJ issue will involve the neck, and an overactive neck will prevent you from gaining access to the lower body. Everything we do in Postural Restoration comes back to relaxing the neck so that the body can be restabilized appropriately. In my own personal experience, that involved getting a mandibular splint.

    Neal I have watched the majority of your content... and I know you have content on these topics... but the one piece of information I am having the most trouble understanding is whether individuals should get adaptations or changes to their system immediately... or if every time performed correctly it is one step closer... meaning maybe after 2 weeks the nervous system could decide to make the change. The reason I am having trouble with this is my practitioner doesn't use PRI methods to treat me, he uses PRI tests to evaluate me, but uses these other methods that make a neurological change to me instantly, yet I'm currently learning PRI and don't have the knowledge of his techniques.
    Would you say with the perfect technique, where an individual is able to feel all the correct reference centres, that they should have an immediate change in their test... or is it more likely that it might take the technique done twice per day for 1-2 weeks to make the change.
    This is definitely the one piece of information that I feel less clear about after watching 95% of your content (probably 100% of all that is PRI related).
    Thank you Neal

    • @jacksonmargosis6604
      @jacksonmargosis6604 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also the reason I am unclear is I see people get instant changes on your channel depending on shoes, balloons, environment, etc little tricks that you have.... but then PRI and you in many videos mention that twice daily the non manual techniques should be used. Whereas my practitioner believes with the right manual and/or non manual technique the change is instant... and he also proves this to me but without PRI techniques... they are modified techniques he has learnt from other courses that have principles that somehow interrelate.
      Thanks Neal

      @@jacksonmargosis6604 Establishing neutrality is easy as long as the cranium (vision/teeth/jaw) aren’t involved. I can do that in a few minutes (or less), but that is simply the starting point. It takes longer to integrate/stabilize, which is what the Hruska adduction/abduction tests show you. Getting neutral is really just about using reference centers to inhibit overactivity. Stability integration is progressing through various positions (sidelying, upright etc..) and how many muscles you are trying to integrate at once. That is far more time consuming than getting neutral and takes motor/nervous system learning.

    Great info Neal! 1st time I hear that we have 2 diff diaphragm. The reason the breath is the key/tool is bec the breath is the core of the biotensegrity we r as humans. (www.youtube.com/@smlbtarchive). As u probably know, the fascial web is composed of the 12 myofascial meridians, explained by Tom Myers in Anatomy Trains. The deepest meridian (the core) is the Deep Front Line which include the diaphragms/breath. The asymmtry is taken care of by the elasticity of the fascia automatically when in any position the fascia/bodyweight is hanging in the direction of gravity. In standing the direction of gravity is ofc from head to toes but if u lay on ya back for ex. its not from head to toes but its from the front to the back. Good moving is awareness and balance of these 3 things: breath, bodyweight and gravity. I go check my diaphragms now, tnx again for the info!

When I lie on the right side, my left side naturally falls back, which is what I have a tendency to do in my everyday life anyway, and is also likely the reason I am always tight around the left upper body. I certainly am suffering from some sort of bias/muscular imbalance though. I agree with the original commenter though, cause her position on the left is likely more comfortable when letting the right side drop, as it requires way less muscle engagement/fight against gravity, so even if this is presented in most cases, the photos are not a good example.
