Hello! DRG Dev here. The Plover and Hatchling were prototypes I made a long time ago as a design intern, so its been there since pre season 01, with the purpose of being an onboarding task for me. They have just been collecting dust since.
The Grounded Acid Spitter seems to have made a return in the form of the new S04 Septic Spreader. At the very least, they both fire arcing "mortar" projectiles.
I actually really like the idea of the glyphid queen hatchling, i think a random swarm or dreadnaught is a bit extreme for a punishment but if it were to simply spawn a short wave akin to one on an egg mission then it would be pretty interesting Or a lot of people would hate it idk
@@tuckersbaby it wont wipe out an entire team yes but it can be a huge waste of ammo and on a mission type like point extraction where you typically run crowd control focused builds it would take a lot of time to kill
We need more element variations in all the enemy types, just like the preds. Good stuff as always, fingers crossed for a spitter queen in the future. Rock n'Stone
I made a fixed version of the Acid Spitter Queen for my Mission Content Randomizer mod. It has its own twist though (that isn't final by any means) but definitely not like other bosses. Fire / Explosive Bomber is also implemented as well. The rest of the creatures were removed from the game after I brought them up in closed game testing (which is why they are not added in my mod).
There are a number of elemental variations of creatures but they don't feel unique because they don't really use any special attack components such as "Flame" for Praetorians, plus most don't visually glow. Most have stat changes for resistances though.
More insight into the obscure critters of Hoxxes? Yes, please. Loved this; plus, I'm real happy to see that they've tinkered with new Naedocytes :D They're such a cool-looking family. That Queen hatchling, too, damn! Damn fine work, Historian. Rock and Stone
My friend's Reforged mod actually adds the Fire Bomber to the Magma Core and Sandblasted Carridors spawn table and it works pretty much perfectly. The mod also adds two boss Mactera, the Tyrannonaut and the Matriarch, that reuse its model, just being bigger and using different textures.
The Hatchling is basically the Screamer from L4D Both run away and allert the horde and both went unused I hope the Naeoctidaes get more love in the future I think the ground acid spiter became the septic spreader The fire bomber looks sick and I would love more mactera enemies as well
That fire bomber was really cool looking, as is the normal goo bomber isn’t so bad. Slight nuisance not very dangerous. The frost bomber, although…. I think more variants and funky designs would be a good addition. It both makes the game more challenging and interesting as you get to see how the bugs change between ecosystems
I actually like these concepts a lot; since season 4 is said to include new native Hoxxes fauna, I'd love to see these revisited. The Queen Hatchling could act like the season's event, like data deposits, relays, or meteors. Successfully killing her gives the player a gland or something that they can deposit for XP, failure to kill her results in the swarm and such as punishment. Though maybe having a more controlled way to engage her, such as a beacon that summons her, might make more sense since I'm afraid that having a wandering hatchling might cause new or impatient players to shoot at it before the team is ready or some environmental hazard triggers her. The dwarves are nowhere near in a position to attack her. The plovers are really cool, and I can't believe they were just made for onboarding by a former intern. Honestly, give them a new model and throw them into the game; maybe give them slight evasive movements while they hover above their target so it isn't so easy for dwarves to hit them. The grounded acid spitters could be a cool base for a new bombardier glyphid, sitting in the back and shooting projectiles at those in the open; maybe they have elements of some kind? Or even a delayed bomb that detonates either on impact with dwarves or a few seconds after hitting the ground. The Mactera Firebomber is the one that vexes and confuses me the most; it's clearly mostly, if not entirely, finished; it was removed so last minute that it managed to sneak into U33's trailer. Did the team decide they weren't fun enough to play against? I assume they wouldn't be fun in small spaces or anywhere on Magma Core, but nothing I've seen so far appears blatantly unfun or unbalanced. What do you say, DRG Historian? Could you give some insight into your personal experiences against the firebomber, seeing as you're one of the few people outside of GSG with any actual experience fighting them? Anyway, enough ranting; I can't wait to see what GSG makes in the future. R&S!
honestly the firebomber is just simply uninteresting, the explosions only become a real threat when there are multiple firebombers in play you can experience them for yourself in Mission Content Randomizer as a secondary objective, but it does tend to spam them
@@explorianguy Interesting; thank you so much for your insight and response! I can understand now why GSG didn't add it. I hope they do something with the model/concept in the future, as an actually dangerous goo-bomber would be an interesting concept.
One of the new teased enemies for season 4 looks like it may be a finalized version of the grounded spitter, with a back mounted launcher instead of the normal spitting animation. :) The hatchling and plover sound really cool.
usually cut enemies in games have obvious drawback that makes it a safe guess why they are cut... but here, i am not sure queen hatchling creating negative exp w your team after accidental triggers (they could still nerf her effect though) and bomber being too hard to dodge when dying (they can also nerf/remove it) are the only reason i can see why theyre cut all of them sound like fun enemies to fight against that add interesting dynamic to the game
Id like to see the fire bomber refined more and added in. Its pretty cool. Maybe they could even make it to where it just sets the ground on fire lol but for a shorter time.
The hatchling queen will equal to a witch spawn in L4D. Dwarfs will either need to coordinate and kill it or avoid it entirely. A dreadnought spawning isn't that bad. Unless there's other threats mixed in. Imagine 3 bulks spawning from other sides of the room. Then this thing escapes you. Any of the dreadnoughts spawns in. The twins and glyphid dread will be easy since there's the bulk one shot option for it. But for the sentinel dreadnought and his goons a bit more tricky. But.... I do want this hatchling queen in the cave now. Sounds like a lot of fun. But do limit it to haz 4 or 5 and seldom on haz 3. So that players wouldn't be that screwed over on haz 3 and below.
Correct, it was heavily inspired by the Witch from L4D. The Hatchling will get agitated if you get too close and will calm down if you lave it alone again. It would hang out in tunnels or near objectives as a disruption. It would spawn a wave or a dreadnaught. It could also spawn nothing at all with the story being that some of the hatchlings have been abandoned by its "following".
I bet the new green Glyphids with the red abdomens shown in the season 4 teasers will be the fleshed out version of the artillery bug and the Mactera fire bomber model will be reused for the Rockpox infested goo bombers.
Yeah I'm kinda surprised that fire bomber hasn't been added as a unique enemy to the Magma Core. It would be a cool twist for the biome, like how Prae's have radioactive and ice variants.
I'm honestly glad they cut the hatchling it's difficult enough to keep up with a huuli hoarder, just imagining one that can summon a horde or boss fight makes me irritated already
So it seems season 3 its going to include new enemies not related to the rivals maybe some of these are going to be in season 3. It would funny if they finally add the acid apiter queen as a dread or a new seasonal event using the hatchlin
The glyphid queen hatchling, fire bomber and new naedocides are probably for S3. The queen might be a new mission type or modifier like rival presence, while the fire bomber might just be a new variant like the brundle fly. Overall they look interesting, not sure how i like a new buffing enemy, wardens are already a pain in the ass but at least its got a big weakspot unlike the critters wich might be annoying to hit if you don’t have any aoe
Hey! I’m 100% sure the firebomb was silently snuck in to the new season, I haven’t seen anyone talk about it but I saw it in magma core, pinged it and my entire team freaked out. It said fire bomber, not rockpox bomber.
i downloaded a mod that unlocks the fire bomber in game, and boy do i flinch everytime i see it. it becomes instantly top priority. its a bit too strong to be in game as it is

A base dreadnaught isn’t that bad. Maybe coupled with shield disruption or some other undesirable mutator but an alright random challenge

interesting idea, but it would be very frustrating to potentially have a run ended just because someone made a simple dumb mistake and triggered it.

We try to stay away from making variations of enemies as we feel it gets cheap. We'd rather focus on more unique enemies instead.

I’m imagining the fire bomber on magma core. Cause yeah that’s what magma core needs, more fire and explosions.

Fire Bomber very much looks close to completion, I wonder for how much longer it'll remain 'unused' in later patches.
