I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Nabors when he was in Melbourne Australia in the late 70s. he performed on the Don Lane show the best ever Live to air Australian evening talk show. each week Don would have different Hollywood guest on the show On the night i were a audience member. That night as Jim was leaving the studio i went to the front security gate and i saw him coming out i yelled out Mr Nabors may i have your Autograph please . He came right over outside the gates and gladly gave me his Autograph i also told him my Dad Mum and I never missed a episode of Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C replays too in which we did I remember him on the Andy Griffith show but was a little young to see them all. I had to ask him if he could do the Gomer Pyle Golly voice Anyway He said he couldn't do it and all of a sudden he did it. and we both laughed. such a lovely humble man a gentleman i will always have that memory until the day i die R.I.P May you rest in peace Mr NABORS
I grew up EVERY year of my life to-date looking forward to the month of May, and the Indy 500. I was born in 1984 and have never seen an Indy 500 without Jim Nabors. Next year will feel empty without his "Back Home Again in Indiana" rendition echoing through the stands. I actually cried knowing that was the last time Jim would sing at Indy. Another piece of my childhood, gone.....
Thanks for the memories, Jim. In your own unique way, you make the "500" traditions and form what is truly The Greatest Spectacle in Racing. Nothing like that baritone voice to make millions long for their Indiana home and dream about the moonlight on the Wabash. It won't be the same without hearing your voice minutes before the roar of 33 engines, but I'll long for it and the Indianapolis 500 year after year, much like I long for my own Indiana home. Godspeed, Jim and again, thank you.
Hi there JRavenRich, Do you remember Jim Nabors dying before 2017 ?? I'm confused, I heard yesterday that he had just died, I could have swore he had passed on already-I think I am losing my mind.
People can say what they want about him but I knew him as Jimmy and when my paw paw died he was there for dad and me when granny died he was there also I found out quite a few years ago that when Jimmy would say golly or shazam on Andy Griffith that he knew dad had me watching it and rolling laughing R.I.P. cuz
Yes R I P Mr. Nabors and thanks for the wonderful deeply moving volumes of music that you delighted millions of fans with. My family plays his XTmas music and song covers over every XTmas season. He will be missed.

Pre race will never be the same.
Wow! I just created a FB page in Jim's honor and was looking for a tribute. The page is called "Jim Nabors-Not Your Neighbor's Voice"
Bud Lehn
Jim Nabors is not dead.. GOOGLE it!
Where did I say he was dead? I honor people when they're alive too, and with tributes. GEEZ!
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise
He's dead.
SO SAD, JUST HEARD JIM NABORS PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 87.
I think John Mellencamp should sing back home again in indiana though, he's an Indiana native
Wonderful tribute
Use something like this for the race from now on.....that's an act that can't be followed.
Now he is with Frank Sutton as Sgt. Vincent Cater
I mean to replace jim, not that he should have had the spot at the beginning
Funny.. because as of today 4-23-17 Jim Nabors is still very much alive.. GOOGLE IT!
Now Google it.
It had nothing to do with his death at the time of this tribute. Please do your reseach
RIP Jim...Thanks for the laughs Gomer
