Wow! My first job as a machinist was on a shaper! Back in the early 80’s. These guys are great. I loved working on manual machines such as lathes, milling machines and horizontal grinders.
Looks like a leathe châssis. Casted chassis are known to be excellent at damping vibrations. Thanks for that video. Very skilled hard working workers. With better modern higher precision machines they will do wonders
Thanks for confirming my thought. Before the senior machinist began using the shaper on it, I wondered if these workpieces were rails for a steel mill ! 🤷
Many years ago, I worked at Ingot Mold, for Bethlehem Steel Corporation. The people in this video show they can accomplish this difficult work using the basics. They are skilled and amazing. Well done.
And these people also show why we have no jobs in the United States as a former Bethlehem Steel employee I think you'd have a bigger problem with this type of stuff as I do
@@mervyncrowley4427, they were going to shut down the plant in Gary, Indiana. But President Trump saved it and kept it open and kept all the workers and their jobs.

As a retired equity owner from the steel industry in Indiana , I have to say that the machinery ( from the 1980’s perhaps ) still does amazing ! I’ve been in many steel mills for various products -/ seen several thousand steel / metals fabricators machine shops & various other // I just love watching metal being shaped & formed
Es increible lo que pueden hacer estos tipos y lo bien que funcionan estas maquinarias, doy fe tengo un torno fabricado por ese pais que ya tiene unos 25 años y esta impecable como si fuera nuevo
I can appreciate all the hard work and effort. I will also point out this is why so many people die over there from building collapses due to second rate material manufacturing processes.
So - every iteration of machine tool has slightly better tolerances than the last. The lathe beds are only as good as the shaper and the tolerances it is capable of. Makes you wonder when the first iteration of that shaper was made 😳😂 Proper respect.
I am wondering the same. Probably that step has been omitted from the video. Likely these were pulled from stock cast much earlier. It would not impede the workflow-cast one week, pull from the yard, another. How long do you think is necessary for them to age and stress relive themselves? I am wondering the same. Amazing work. No safety gear. Without knowing how many workers lose an eye or toe or get burned I bet it happens but it possibly regarded as no big deal unless you are the victim.
I watched the full video and have no idea what they made usually it shows finished product being used or recognisable..they hardly seem to use templates so as skilled as they are isn't it easy to get a few millimeters out and it not fit whatever it was..we don't appreciate enough how easy we have it..a day working hard like they do in these situations would kill me 😢
I remember when this was taught in highschool, of course on a smaller scale. Wow some of the imagination that high school kids came up with. Especially, when modifying their car. Making them muscle cars. ... But many of these highschool shops were cancelled and the money went to the football highschool program. Too bad many of the shop kids went to the racing teams and not too many football players made it to the pro's.

My grandfather retired from the Seattle plant back in the early 80's.
That chaps lungs must be full of cast iron dust working on that shaper in those conditions
I second that!!

Seeing that molten metal splashing next to everyone wearing sandals 😆 🤣 great safety standards. India must really love their people
So happy to see they were all wearing their OSHA certified safety shoes on.
As well as eyewear, hearing protection, respirators and heat shields.
Just goes to show that common sense can keep you safe
But it only appears that way. You don't see the smashed feet and blind workers because they no longer work there.
Goodbye OSHA hello corporate profits and worker injuries that nonexistent Healthcare insurance will pay for. Pakistan is looking better all the time.

Compliment to hard workers in Pakistan they are capable of doing any thing challenging. But lack of safety is the responsibility of the manufacturer.
These are non union workers. Employers have no interest in worker safety, only the bottom line, even in the United States.
