Turbinicarpus lophophoroides like richer clay soils, perhaps your substrate is too lean for them. T. alonsoi like some humus in soil, and they prefer shaded position, especialy when young. Later on (when they reach approx. 1 cm in diameter) they can be gradually exposed to more sun. Best regards, Nino
