    Really enjoyed seeing a tour through your seedlings! Baby cacti are underrated. I'd rather have a bunch of slow little Ariocarpus and baby cacti than dead ones so you're doing good in my book 👍For me it seems like once my cactus seedlings grow to a certain critical mass they really enjoy being transplanted into a mix that is more "adult". After the short transplant shock they seem like they really take off.

    Fun seeing the Ariocarpus in their own habitat. These are usually the last Chihuahuan Cacti to bloom, with pretty light violet flowers in fall. I have several in tall/narrow pots in afternoon desert sun. Now 5 to six inches across after many years in the very deep pots. No fertilizer and very little water.

    Could you give more info about Mammillaria grahamii? Why is it considered rare and why is it difficult to find in the USA for sale? I just found an cutting after 4 years of trying to identify one I had to leave behind when moving.

    • @kes1171
      @kes1171 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mammillaria grahamii is not rare actually extremely common growing in AZ but somewhat hard to find for sale because most growers don't bother growing it. Mammillaria grahmii somewhat rot prone it comes from a very hot and seasonally dry desert and blooms in July during the monsoon season. Widespread they have different variations the ones in Phoenix AZ grow taller with smaller lighter flowers and in Tucson and most other areas they have bigger bright pink flowers. Most clump after many years and the spines are hooked and make it hard to transplant mine have actually caught lizards on the spines which takes patience to free the little guys. Ask miles2go nursery if he has any I'm sure they are growing all around his nursery.

    I've seen hybrids S. disciformis X T. alonsoi, they look very much like Strombocactus esperanzae (somewhat longer tubercles than disciformis and magenta flowers, like alonsoi). Some authors actually think that Strombocactus disciformis ssp. esperanzae might be natural hybrid between Strombocactus disciformis and Turbinicarpus alonsoi.

    Thank you so much for your video! I have been searching and searching and so many keep their cactus seedlings in the baggie. I felt this was not the best information as so many of mine got mold fungus and died. I thought i did something wrong, but now i am having success with giving them air after germination! Thanks again, I am so very grateful for your information!!

    I hate mites had them all last year and finally got rid of them this year. I tried spinosad at first and that helped but didn’t eliminate them, what I found that worked was wet-able sulfur fungicide spray.

    Very enjoyable video. 😀👍 Have you tried exposing those pencil-like Mammillaria albiflora to more sunlight? Turbinicarpus lophophoroides like richer clay soils, perhaps your substrate is too lean for them. T. alonsoi like some humus in soil, and they prefer shaded position, especialy when young. Later on (when they reach approx. 1 cm in diameter) they can be gradually exposed to more sun. Best regards, Nino

    • @kes1171

      Humus means lower ph ? My soil is high ph. I'll try adding peat to lower the ph which I've done for other turbinicarpus. Thanks

    Most root rot can be prevented if you use plastic pots and drill more drain holes all around the bottom of the pot instead of one little teeny drain hole at the bottom soil aeration is the most important part of preventing root rot also filling the pot with soil all the way to the top is incorrect there should be at least an inch or inch and a half of finish grade in the pot

    • @kes1171
      @kes1171 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Finish grade means what? small rocks around neck of the plant then yes . I find clay pots work best for old desert cactus with tuberous roots and plastic if you can find plastic that is durable works for regular cactus and succulents.
