Henk Poort was a childhood idol of Floor Jansen (saw him in the Dutch production of Phantom of the Opera) and this was her chance to sing with him. No one, and I mean no one merely listens to Floor or hears her sing, no you experience her (especially when she sings with her Symphonic Metal band Nightwish LIVE). Great reaction and clearly you never heard Floor sing before this as was true for the TV audience, she came onto the show as the "metal chick with tattoos" and left some 8 songs later as one of the most diverse female vocalist you will ever experience.

Floored! Floorgasm! She is a special lady. You could listen to her sing 10 songs and you still wouldn't hear everything she can do. I mean almost literally you name it she can do it.
Many more chills, tears, goosebumps, and shocks to come my dear. Nice reaction. I suggest starting with the entire Wåcken 2013 show. Others will differ, but you must come to grips with the fact that this BAND plays an entire (roughly) 90 minute set/show non-stop. Stamina out the ass! The audience is totally engaged (Wacken 2013 was ~82,000 people) and they KNEW ALL OF THE MATERIAL. The audience had to be drained of their life essence at the end. Major props to the audiences, who I think get short shrift in these reactions. This is a symbiotic process.

This is a Dutch TV show she did in 2019 because Floor Jansen and Nightwish are known around the world, But in the Netherlands they don't listen to Metal music so she was basically unknown in her home country. She has several Beste Zangers performances thru out this show.. All of them are Amazing,, Gives you a real chance to see her amazing versatility.
That's true. The general audience in The Netherlands doesn't listen to metal or better: don't get exposed to metal simply because our radio stations never play them. Never! Well, De Beste Zangers changed that big time. All songs by Floor Jansen in this program hitted the number 1 position next day in the Apple Music chart and stayed there for at least to weeks. And Nightwish now finally get the recognition in The Netherlands. Besides that, Sharon den Adel with her Within Temptation completely dominated the Dutch metal scene for decades. She is off stage also a very down to earth and likable metal lady. The role as queen of metal Floor has internationally, has Sharon in The Netherlands.

As suggest by lots others I strongly to suggest you dive into Nightwish: Here are some suggestions for your your first stops: -> Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013): THE "traditional first song" to get into Nightwish. Floor is showing diferent capabilities and you can get a first understanding of Tuomas capability of songwriting -> There are a couple of great songs from Wacken: „Story Time“ and "Ever Dream" are catchy in a very positive way. "Song of Myself" starts catchy and ends with everyone headbanging. "Romanticide", "Last Ride of the Day" and "Ghostriver" are the heavier ones. -> "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast: Maximum speed and Marco (the singing bass player) becomes Hannibal Lecter ;-) -> "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look!! at the growls. You'll be surprised.) -> „Dead Boys Poem“ from Buenos Aires (so amazing and emotional) -> „Weak Fantasy“ (Tampere): Kai the beastat the drums, Troy joins in, great duets with Floor and Marco, … -> Elvenjig / Elvenpath (Buenos Aires): Awesome intro and it continues on that level -> "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) is one of the two most epic songs. The title is not about the gig, but about the topic of the song: The evolution of mankind. -> "The Poet and the Pendulum“ (Wembley) is my personal absolute masterpiece of Nightwish. Be sure to know the background of this song ahead (short version see below *) ***** From the new album there are for obvious reasons no live sessions so far. For all songs there are lyric videos, except for „Noise". But maybe you'll give some songs a try as well. It's an awesome album. Definitely not an "easy" one with a lot of really unique songs, different from what is "typical" for Nightwish. Floor said that she was really challenged to sing the songs that Tuomas wrote for her. Knowing her abilities, you can imagine that they are "special“. „ -->"Noise" is probably the most "typical" song and the only one with "real video". The video is great as the song itself --> "Tribal" is the heaviest one and Kai, the drummer, had to change his normal setup to be able to play it. --> "Shoemaker" (about Eugene Shoemaker) is such a heavenly and epic song with the possible epic ending. -> „Pan“ is just an amazing ride. When it starts you for a moment think you‘re listening to Floors husbands band „Sabaton“. In the song you‘ll be reminded to „Tribal“ and „Noise“. -> Procession“ a rather calm song with so amazing vocals by Floor --> "Harvest" is so different with Troy singing, that you will wonder if you're listening to Nightwish. -> „Endlessness“ is Marcos song and shows his great voice. --> "Music", „How's the Heart", ... are really cool songs as well. Of course. The album challenged Floor as singer, which is not easy to do, as she is one of the best and most versatile singers in the world. ***** If you'd like to explore more of Floor on her own: Just in case (which I can really recommend) you're going to do more of Floor at „Beste Zangers" make sure you take the clips posted by "jenniezelf" on TH-cam as she has also included the talking / interviews before and after with english subtitles. The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them. It's a song that is by that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. So it is very interesting to get to know the story behind each song. And it will help to understand the reactions of the other singers. Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English. Her "Phanom of the Opera" duet with Henk Poort is legendary. ***** * Backstory for „Poet and the Pendulum“ Tuomas (the keyboarder and songwriter) was in depression after the split from their first singer Tarja. He was in the position to either commit suicide in real real life or to write a song about it and die within that song. Luckily he choose the latter option. He is the poet, "killed" by the pendulum. And afterwards there is darkness, silence and just a fading heartbeat. It gives me a shiver every time. As this song is so emotional for him all the others have an eye on him. This is not a Nightwish song, it's also not an opera song, but it's the title song of the musical "Phantom of the Opera" written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It's one of the best known songs worldwide, and the most difficult one because of that last note. Most singers can reach that high, but Floor did a 8-second long version of it. Nightwish did do their own take on this song years ago with Tarja. Floor Jansen has been a longtime fan of Henk Poort. Henk has played The Phantom in Holland for many years. So when the opportunity came along, they both grabbed with both hands, and with the end result you just witnessed. And congrats on your first Floorgasm. :o)

Every year the TV station invites 7 professinal singers from the Netherlands with different musical backgrounds to sing to each other. Before the whole season starts each singer provides a list of songs that are in some kind meaningful to them (like songs that this persons family played at home, songs about an impactful event in their life, songs that started the career of this person or simply a favourite song) and the other 6 singers pick one song from this list to perform, often giving it their own twist. In every episode one of the singers is in the spotlight while the other six perform songs for that person. Henk Poort was the Phantom in the dutch version of the Phantom of the Opera, so he'd know the song well. The version they're singing is the Nightwish cover, originally sung by their first lead vocalist, Tarja Turunen from their 2002 album Century Child. Marco the vocalist and bass player sung the Phantoms lines. I'm a huge fans of his ^^ For this show Henk also covered Sound of Silence at Floors request, though he does the cover by Disturbed. Which has many raspy parts he's not fond of doing since it strains his vocal chords like at 3:13 here. After this show Henk promised to join Nightwish on stage for their 2020 tour starting in November to sing this song, at a perfomance in the Netherlands. I'm hopeful to see that captured for TH-cam. Assuming it happens at all, the tour might get cancelled the way the world is atm...

Floored! Floorgasm! She is a special lady. You could listen to her sing 10 songs and you still wouldn't hear everything she can do. I mean almost literally you name it she can do it.
Many more chills, tears, goosebumps, and shocks to come my dear. Nice reaction. I suggest starting with the entire Wåcken 2013 show. Others will differ, but you must come to grips with the fact that this BAND plays an entire (roughly) 90 minute set/show non-stop. Stamina out the ass! The audience is totally engaged (Wacken 2013 was ~82,000 people) and they KNEW ALL OF THE MATERIAL. The audience had to be drained of their life essence at the end. Major props to the audiences, who I think get short shrift in these reactions. This is a symbiotic process.

This is a Dutch TV show she did in 2019 because Floor Jansen and Nightwish are known around the world, But in the Netherlands they don't listen to Metal music so she was basically unknown in her home country. She has several Beste Zangers performances thru out this show.. All of them are Amazing,, Gives you a real chance to see her amazing versatility.
That's true. The general audience in The Netherlands doesn't listen to metal or better: don't get exposed to metal simply because our radio stations never play them. Never! Well, De Beste Zangers changed that big time. All songs by Floor Jansen in this program hitted the number 1 position next day in the Apple Music chart and stayed there for at least to weeks. And Nightwish now finally get the recognition in The Netherlands.
Besides that, Sharon den Adel with her Within Temptation completely dominated the Dutch metal scene for decades. She is off stage also a very down to earth and likable metal lady. The role as queen of metal Floor has internationally, has Sharon in The Netherlands.

-> Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013): THE "traditional first song" to get into Nightwish. Floor is showing diferent capabilities and you can get a first understanding of Tuomas capability of songwriting
-> There are a couple of great songs from Wacken: „Story Time“ and "Ever Dream" are catchy in a very positive way. "Song of Myself" starts catchy and ends with everyone headbanging. "Romanticide", "Last Ride of the Day" and "Ghostriver" are the heavier ones.
-> "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast: Maximum speed and Marco (the singing bass player) becomes Hannibal Lecter ;-)
-> "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look!! at the growls. You'll be surprised.)
-> „Dead Boys Poem“ from Buenos Aires (so amazing and emotional)
-> „Weak Fantasy“ (Tampere): Kai the beastat the drums, Troy joins in, great duets with Floor and Marco, …
-> Elvenjig / Elvenpath (Buenos Aires): Awesome intro and it continues on that level

From the new album there are for obvious reasons no live sessions so far. For all songs there are lyric videos, except for „Noise". But maybe you'll give some songs a try as well. It's an awesome album. Definitely not an "easy" one with a lot of really unique songs, different from what is "typical" for Nightwish. Floor said that she was really challenged to sing the songs that Tuomas wrote for her. Knowing her abilities, you can imagine that they are "special“. „
-->"Noise" is probably the most "typical" song and the only one with "real video". The video is great as the song itself
--> "Tribal" is the heaviest one and Kai, the drummer, had to change his normal setup to be able to play it.
--> "Shoemaker" (about Eugene Shoemaker) is such a heavenly and epic song with the possible epic ending.
-> „Pan“ is just an amazing ride. When it starts you for a moment think you‘re listening to Floors husbands band „Sabaton“. In the song you‘ll be reminded to „Tribal“ and „Noise“.
-> Procession“ a rather calm song with so amazing vocals by Floor
--> "Harvest" is so different with Troy singing, that you will wonder if you're listening to Nightwish.
-> „Endlessness“ is Marcos song and shows his great voice.
--> "Music", „How's the Heart", ... are really cool songs as well. Of course.
The album challenged Floor as singer, which is not easy to do, as she is one of the best and most versatile singers in the world.

Just in case (which I can really recommend) you're going to do more of Floor at „Beste Zangers" make sure you take the clips posted by "jenniezelf" on TH-cam as she has also included the talking / interviews before and after with english subtitles. The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them.
It's a song that is by that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. So it is very interesting to get to know the story behind each song. And it will help to understand the reactions of the other singers. Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English. Her "Phanom of the Opera" duet with Henk Poort is legendary.

* Backstory for „Poet and the Pendulum“
Tuomas (the keyboarder and songwriter) was in depression after the split from their first singer Tarja. He was in the position to either commit suicide in real real life or to write a song about it and die within that song. Luckily he choose the latter option. He is the poet, "killed" by the pendulum. And afterwards there is darkness, silence and just a fading heartbeat. It gives me a shiver every time.
As this song is so emotional for him all the others have an eye on him. He even had his the vocals turned off in his in ears.

To be specific, Wacken Open Air 2013 version. Her voice on that night breached the heavens.
This is not a Nightwish song, it's also not an opera song, but it's the title song of the musical "Phantom of the Opera" written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It's one of the best known songs worldwide, and the most difficult one because of that last note. Most singers can reach that high, but Floor did a 8-second long version of it.
Nightwish did do their own take on this song years ago with Tarja. Floor Jansen has been a longtime fan of Henk Poort. Henk has played The Phantom in Holland for many years. So when the opportunity came along, they both grabbed with both hands, and with the end result you just witnessed. And congrats on your first Floorgasm. :o)

Hi there, great reaction. A little explanation about the show "Beste Zangers":
It is NOT a competition. Every year the TV station invites 7 professinal singers from the Netherlands with different musical backgrounds to sing to each other. Before the whole season starts each singer provides a list of songs that are in some kind meaningful to them (like songs that this persons family played at home, songs about an impactful event in their life, songs that started the career of this person or simply a favourite song) and the other 6 singers pick one song from this list to perform, often giving it their own twist. In every episode one of the singers is in the spotlight while the other six perform songs for that person.
In the season 2019 this were:
Ruben Annink (singer/songwriter and the youngest with just 20 yrs)
Emma Heesters (singing coversongs on TH-cam with 2 mio subscribers on her channel, she was 23 at the time the show was recorded)
Floor Jansen (Metal, leadsinger in the finnish symphonic Metalband "Nightwish"

Henk Poort was the Phantom in the dutch version of the Phantom of the Opera, so he'd know the song well. The version they're singing is the Nightwish cover, originally sung by their first lead vocalist, Tarja Turunen from their 2002 album Century Child. Marco the vocalist and bass player sung the Phantoms lines. I'm a huge fans of his ^^
For this show Henk also covered Sound of Silence at Floors request, though he does the cover by Disturbed. Which has many raspy parts he's not fond of doing since it strains his vocal chords like at 3:13 here.
After this show Henk promised to join Nightwish on stage for their 2020 tour starting in November to sing this song, at a perfomance in the Netherlands. I'm hopeful to see that captured for TH-cam. Assuming it happens at all, the tour might get cancelled the way the world is atm...
