    Thank you so very much. I quilted a quilt Saturday by winging it. Now I can’t wait to quilt the next quilt!

    Thanks for all your wonderful videos. Could you please explain how I would pick good non nested pantos. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

      @Joyfulstamper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The very easiest to place are the truly non-nested - which means the lowest stitch of the upper row hits on the same "line" as where the highest stitch of row below it hits.
      This pattern from Urban Elementz is a great example:

    Thank you for the tutorial. I have not yet purchased the OCT5 buy am considering it. To avoid doing a partial row at the bottom or top, could you expand the pattern to make it possible to have only full rows? Example, if it were a 6 inch pattern on a 40 inch long quilt, can you proportionally increase the 6 inch pattern to a 6.25 pattern(not doing math) to come out at the end without having to do a partial row?

    • @Joyfulstamper
      @Joyfulstamper 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can control pattern and row height to be what you want.

    • @Joyfulstamper
      @Joyfulstamper 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You want to be careful about having gaps along the top with a heavily nested pattern.

      My best tip is to go into simulation mode and touch everything on every screen!

    I watched this and that is such a great idea. Do you sell the top cover to hold the rods?

    • @Joyfulstamper
      @Joyfulstamper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is what the top covers are: www.clip-n-seal.com/
      At the time I got mine (from Amazon several years ago) they were sold in long sets - so I trimmed the top down to the size I needed. The "rod" was too flimsy to use - so that was why I used cafe curtain rods.

    Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, Janet! I relied on your and your husband's expertise when I purchased my Grace Qnique 15r quilting machine and continuum frame last year. Now I see you've added the QCT program to your machine and here I am learning from you again! I am very interested in purchasing the QCT5 but I haven't yet because of the different versions. I'm curious--did you start with the QCT Beginnings version or the Pro version? If I purchase the Beginnings version, will I regret not getting the Pro version?

    • @Joyfulstamper
      @Joyfulstamper 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad our videos have been a help to you!
      I started with QCT4 Beginnings (no harder way to do pantos than with v.4 Beg!!!) -- v.5 Beg is more user friendly because you get some limited computer guided "zone" placement (a zone is the 1 or 2 rows you can stitch between each advance of quilt). A huge difference between it and Pro is that when doing pantographs with Beg you can only enter a Total Height of what your machine's throat size will allow - and then only 1 or 2 rows max. Also, after you advance your quilt and are getting ready to place your next zone, if your panto design is nested, then you have to measure up from the placement mark that QCT gives you by whatever amount the lower row nests up into the row above it. Yes, you get really fast at that....but if you'd rather not have to put up with that, then Pro is the way to go, where you can enter the entire height of the quilt and always get an accurate zone placement spot. Of course, Pro offers more quilting choices. Even so, you can do some beautiful quilting with Beginnings - no doubt about that! Having Pro makes a lot of things easier.

      @@Joyfulstamper I appreciate the info! I purchased the Pro version :-). Now I'm learning, learning, learning by watching your videos and following along with your handouts that I got from Leah Day's website. I don't have Facebook so I really appreciate the accessibility of your handouts being on her website. Glad you teamed up with Leah! Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge and for taking the time to respond to questions.

    So helpful. Thank you so much!
    But how did you come up with 14+ inches at the beginning of your presentation?

    • @Joyfulstamper
      @Joyfulstamper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since this was a quilt that I wasn't stitching off the edges and wanted all the rows to be full ones (with no partial rows at top & bottom) - plus, the pattern wasn't a nested one - it was just a math thing using the height between uppermost stitch of first row and lowermost stitch of last row. I figured out what row height would work best for the pattern I wanted to use and doubled it - which came to the 14+ amount for Total Height for my 2 rows.
      With Beginnings, when you first turn QCT on and set your Safe Area - the amount that autofills into the Total Width on panto screen is the Safe Area ADJUSTED FOR the size throat of your machine. So that amount will be LESS than your actual Safe Area height. You can use that amount or a lesser amount - just not an amount greater.

    I love the clips you put on the side with the ribbon. Where did you get those or how did you make them? I love that idea!!

    • @Joyfulstamper
      @Joyfulstamper 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They started out as Side Grips by Leader Grips.....except for I tore them up by clamping over the batting! The "rods" are cafe curtain rods I got at Walmart. I slid them to length needed and taped in place. The upper clamps are mondo clips (Clip 'n Seal) from Amazon. I cut them to length needed. (The rods that come with those are too flexible to use.) I tied ribbon to the ends of cafe curtain rods and they were ready to use.

    As I follow along i get a message saying ‘you need to place “ what does that mean? Also it tells me I’m out of my safe zone. Hel;p.

    • @Joyfulstamper
      @Joyfulstamper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think what you are asking about is placing a zone. That is how you tell QCT where to stitch your pattern. You will either be moving your needle to top center (Center Placement) and touching the green rectangle at bottom of screen or moving your needle to top left corner (4 Point Placement) and touching "A" at the bottom of screen.
      This video should help with answering your Safe Area question.

    • @Joyfulstamper
      @Joyfulstamper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are just blue ribbons (tied to the ends of cafe curtain rods) for the side bungee clamps to clip onto.

    Where can I get the tape measure you have on your roller and does it come with the markers? If not, what are you using for markers? I see you are using binder clips on the bottom.

    • @Joyfulstamper
      @Joyfulstamper 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do a search for "zero center tape measure" and you will see lots of choices! Mine was included with a purchase long ago from a quilt shop no longer in business. Some of them come with nice slider markers. Mine didn't....so I cut out little squares of cardstock and drew arrows on them to point toward quilt edges and use magnets to hold them in place.
      Now that I am using the lower leader cloth flipped up - and using binder clips to mark edges - my quilt tops have never stayed so straight on the rails!

    Do the QCT include the computer

    • @dfgeorge
      @dfgeorge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Debbie...no, it does not; you must supply your own Windows computer/tablet. There are specs for the tablet listed on the Grace website, but keep in mind that those are minimum specs. The better tablet you purchase, the better your QCT performance will be...in particular if you are quilting intricate patterns.
