We purchased Speed Queen W&D in 1991 when we purchased our home. About 5 years ago and far too many horse blankets and saddle pads that made the washer so unbalanced it tried to run away taking the flooring up with it, it finally cashed in. We without hesitation bought a new Speed Queen washer. The gas dryer is still drying clothes as it did the day we bought it however not without maintenance. Like tires and other vehicle parts I have replaced the drive belt that was burned through by the drive motor when a tennis shoe inside stopped the drum, felt bearing, tensioner wheel and igniter all for about $120 bucks and not too difficult to replace. It's due another rebuild which will run about $175 this time but well worth it. Highly suggest Speed Queen. I frequently come home with tile thinset and or grout all over my jeans and they come out amazingly clean. The trick is not to stuff the washer with too much when you have exceedingly challenging clothes to wash and a presoak which you can program in helps too. They are worth the few extra bucks they may cost.

@@AKIYIAKELLY I can't tell you what to do but I would feel comfortable without an extended warranty. We went almost 30 years on the washer and 30+ on the gas dryer. I did have to replace the rolling stock, the drive belt, barrel rollers, igniter twice during its lifetime. That is kind of like a tune-up or new tires for your car.

While the knobs of the newer Speed Queen classic commercial washers appear to be old school, they are, in fact, electronic. The Maytag commercial washers' knobs are also electronic. The Maytag's 10-year warranteed brushless motor is computer controlled. On price, however, the Maytag is $400.00 or more less expensive and has a longer guarantee. I wish that Maytag's load size was adjustable. Overall, it is hard to compare the two, so you might say that it is a wash.

After trying a few front load POS washers, I bought a SQ, 5 or 6 years ago.
It is an absolute tank. Nothing fancy, but it just runs and runs. I suspect it will outlast me.
I'm interested in hearing why you picked the Speed Queen. Did you consider the Maytag commercial grade washer in this video? Both the Speed Queen and the Maytag in this video are commercial grade. I'm sure there are differences. Everyone has their preferences. Would you buy the same machine again or would you consider the Maytag or some other machine in the future?
RedondoBeach2 this is hearsay as in I read it in another thread comparing the two… apparently the Maytag shares a lot of common parts (suspension and seals) with their residential units as well as having far more circuit boards, etc.. this comment was from a supposed service tech. Having just changed the suspension rods on my 7 year old Maytag washer.. I would like to avoid doing that again. Also, the problem with the circuit boards is that the manufacturer A) stops offering them after awhile and B) charges an arm and a leg for them because there is no competition. This is the appeal of the SQ. It is more expensive, louder, less efficient and slightly less good at cleaning clothes (still excellent) but it will last 20+ years. So, as long as you know these things it is up to you as to which you value more. I would choose the Speed Queen but neither is a bad choice.
@@roverdad I appreciate your feedback. This is good information. I did buy the Maytag soon after my original post went up. Certain components (basket and motor) have a 1 year warranty. I opted to buy the 5 year full coverage warranty. My hope is that it will be a durable washer that lasts a lot longer considering how it will be used. I installed it at my Mom's house. Her need to do laundry is minimal. So, I'd like to think it should last a lot longer than 5 or even 10 years. Another person posted in another thread that he connected his to a surge protector. I believe he did this to better protect the electronics. I'll do the same but admittedly have not done it yet. I live in an apartment and our laundry room has Speed Queens. They get a lot of use and I cannot ever remember seeing a repair man working on the machines in the ~5 years they have been installed. This is not to say that it hasn't happened, but if it did, I'm not aware, and if there was a problem with the machines, they were fixed very quickly. Final thought; I bought the washer from Lowes. They offer a 30 day full money back satisfaction guarantee. I'll check with my Mom after she has had it for a few weeks to see if she's still satisfied. If I feel it's better to swap it out with another washer, that option still exists.
@@roverdad I cant stand circuit boards and other cheap useless unreliable junk like that. I need the toughest, strongest washer I can find. I got my dirty mens work clothes. I got 5 dogs that have dog blankets and dog towels, we do a lot of hiking and swimming etc. So which one would be best for all that?
front loads are POS but they dont damage clothes and ties sheets into knots. and for places with water shortages, they are very efficient. Also they get most of the water out on the spin cycle so clothes air dry quickly. for me its worth the lack of durability
If I can get a washer and dryer that last 20-25 years isn't more environmentally friendly and saving you more money in the long run than these machines that last 8-10 years IF your lucky? Frankly how often do people actually use the fancy washing cycles on the new machines anyways?
i dont need fancy , and want something to last a long time, 20 years would be great... what does factor highly is the ability to really clean clothes. i.e. performance. remove grease, oil, etc ...

I purchased a Speed Queen and immediately fabricated an agitator that mirrors the Maytag auger. I also added sound deadening. Now I have the machine that I wanted.
how do you add sound deadening?
@@thewholedeel6238 I used the commercial automotive stuff. Layer of aluminum backed butyl rubber, then a layer of 1/2 foam on top of that. Lined the interior of the shell making sure it didn't interfere with anything. I'm not sure the foam added much performance wise. If I were to do it again I would just use 6" wide peel and stick roofing material from the big box store. Foam can always be added later, but I really don't think it did much.
@vavalto. Indeed I made the entire thing from scratch. Being a machinist it isn't such a tall order, took a considerable amount of time though.
How did you fabricate the agitator? Do you have a video or something of it doing a cycle??? I really want to see how that works.
@@chineeboy18 Owning a machine shop has its advantages. I did this quite some time ago. I'm sure I still have drawings... somewhere. It is not a small lift.
I guess I'll continue using my 35 year old Whirlpool washer and 45 year old Whirlpool gas dryer then.

Olde is gold, they were made to do the job, modern ones are meant to last a few years, then something that is designed to fail does and its buy the parts and labour or spend abit more for a new machine, speed queen olde skool or miele washing machines, I would buy speed queen, for my North America house and miele for my UK house, preference,

Maytag got bought out by whirlpool years ago those machines are "commercial looking" whirlpool Cabrio washers THEY ARE EXACTLY THE SAME

Great video, thanks for sharing. Speed Queen really got their foot in the home market because of all the problems that people were having with these new high efficiency models. People just wanted a return to simplicity, quality and a hassle free clothes washing experience. Our friends in Australia have Speed Queens for the same reasons.
My six-year-old Maytag now as multiple problems. It’s has to be replaced. I used it a lot and it did not even last six and half years.
Just bought a speed queen classic and have a cleaning business so I have to wash mops and rags daily plus my laundry plus I have 3 others living here so a washing machine that last is a must and so far I'm loving my speed queen...also a bonus it's never out of balance which my other $1000 washing machines were always out of balance and a constant headache, now I don't mind washing lol

Does the Speed Queen Washer you are reviewing have a filter that can be checked and emptied after each wash?
I have this commercial washer by Maytag and have a terrible time with my clothes coming out so wrinkled even on delicate. Have you found any solutions for this problem? Otherwise the washer is great
Which one is best for home use? I dont like gizmos, fancy complex electronic stuff that breaks down all the time and is hard to figure out. I want the toughest washer that will strongly wash the the clothes. I got my dirty mens work clothes, dog blankets, dog towels, etc, I need a tough serious washer. Would I need a commercial one for home use, or which one is best for home use?
For the Maytag, are the parts actually better like the shaft compared to the 6.0 cu/ft Maytag with agitator?
No the parts are no where near as robust as the SQ. SQ are known for being bullet proof old school builds made in Wisconsin I believe. Everything else is made in foreign countries with thinner gauge weaker materials to maximize profits
I want this MACHINE.
I will tell you one thing. I have owned Maytag coin op commercial for many years. They are not making a good maching at this time. I had to replace both my dryers and the only one besides Maytag in my area was speed queen. So far they have exceeded my expectations. Now my Maytag commercial take a dump. So I go buy two new speed queen top loaders that are equivalent to the Maytag. As soon as I grab them to unload I notice that speed queen is much heaver than the maytag....hmmmmm I unpack it and install it and wow what a machine. I fell there is not comparison with todays machines. I will not buy another Maytag unless I hear they are building them like they used to.
LOVE MY SPEED QUEEN WASHER.. A T34 tank of a machine... 4 years of hard work... order a dryer... I am sold.. Maytag and Whoorlpool are junk aside from killing my tree lawn grass waiting for disposal
I have the Speed Queen and yes it's the model shown here TR5000. People say it doesn't do a good job of cleaning clothes. I disagree, I put it on auto fill, heavy duty, don't overload and use the proper amount of soap for the size load....simple. You'll find that this model doesn't beat up/wear your clothes out like the true agitating type washers. Like anything else it's subjective, I'm just glad not to be doing wash by hand on the edge of a riverbank.
I agree if you do laundry correctly per machine you will get good results with the new TR series SQ washers. Most people don't know how to do laundry they don't sort, they overfill for one, use too much soap or the wrong soap, they don't use the correct water temperature, and of course don't use the correct water level. The new TR series when used correctly does wash very well especially 90% of clothes. If you have grease, and lots of dirt on your clothes then I would suggest double wash with almost any machine and most definitely separate from other clothes!

Some points made in this video are misleading.
1) The Speed Queen and Maytag models referenced both have an electronic control board in the panel. The rotary knobs on both of them are selectors to program the board.
2) Speed Queen completely redesigned their drive mechanics and wash action on the 2018 models (of which the referenced machine is one). Some aspects of the machine are the same as 2017 and prior, but some of it is not.
This comment is correct for 2018 SQ models. Apparently, Speed Queen got a lot of feedback about the changes from their customers on the 2018 changes and made the 2019 and onwards basic (5000 series) models the same as the 2017’s. The 7000 series retains the new features and has more mixed reviews on its cleaning abilities but not its durability.
Please tell me what model that is as I don't want one that has the electronic board. I don't want a bunch of bells and whistles to break down. Thanks

I have the new Speed Queen TR5 washer and dryer set for 6 months now and couldn't be happier with them!!! I do 10 loads a week of moderately soiled laundry and everything comes out very clean and fresh smelling!!! a lot of people don't like the new changes in the S.Q. because they think that it doesn't clean well, believe me folks it does a fantastic job cleaning and with a lot less lint transfer as well!!! unless you absolutely used one yourself, don't go by what you see and hear on line, it really is a good washer!!!

HHH100 you know nothing about anything so quit bullying on stuff you think know about and don’t. I own the Tr-5 Dr-5 set myself and it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it. No one has ever said my work uniforms were dirty or that or my street cloths were dirty or that they smelled!
I was around and used SQ when the MaGraw Edison SQ’s were still around and new and that pos you revere is junk compared to those old SQ’s..
the transmissions suck in them stinking things today because they’re are cheap garbage PERIOD and couldn’t hold up in commercial use like the MaGraws could in a heart beat I used to see those In laundromats at 20+ years old and those junkers you guys think are so damn great won’t last if you’re lucky if you will get 5 or 10 years out of them in commercial use . But they still make them because they are cheap to manufacture. Plus they aren’t cost effective for laundromat owners and they’ve pretty much ditched them for the front loaders.
So what may be great in your house doesn’t exactly show the same results in commercial use! So fly those facts you think you know all about but after 50 years o know a turd when when I see it and you those videos that you threw up there’s a turd in it you just don’t know what you’re talking about!!

I ran a Laundromat back in the 70's that had all McGraw Edision Speed Queen's in it and they were truly "WORKHORSE'S" I couldn't believe how some people use to overload those washers so bad and yet they never Broke!!! Before I bought my TR5 set I had The 9 Series Speed Queen, and I had nothing but problems with the transmission making clunking sounds and letting off an odor that filled up my kitchen like something was burning!!! I had the area service guy over to check it out and he said he couldn't find anything but then to he refused to try it with clothes in it and said even if it was the transmission, It would be a big job to tear it all down to fix it so I was "Screwed" And he was the only guy in my area who worked on Speed Queen washer's too!!! So I decided to try the TR5 set and to my surprise "NO" problems at all just clean and fresh smelling clothes everytime!!! Have A Great Day!!!
I never said Speed Queens were great. I only said the last decent model was 2017. Best machines were made years ago. They had real agitators with a real transmission of steel gears. I have a 1969 Maytag still going strong. Never had any smells and never grew mold. Figure out how many years that is. LOL and for a backup if I ever need it I have a 2004 Maytag commercial washer model MAT12PRDAW that when purchased NEW in 2004 cost them $5,384.58. It was given to me for FREE. Because the laundromat made a huge mistake by buying the new "HE" washers to save a penny on water. They made a big mistake. Now both the 2004 & 1969 Maytag are IDENTICAL in design internally. See what is considered "commercial quality" today was standard household issue in 1969. You get nothing for your money these days but Tonka Toy junk. Have fun with your new plastic geared washers, and I will stick with my vintage machines built like tanks.

We bought a whirlpool washing machine. it only lasted 2 yrs. Called the repairman. It would have costed as much to fix and the machine cost new. They didn't even have to come to dianose. it. because they got so many calls. They are made to break down in only 2 years. I looked at other reviews. they all had the same problem with whirlpool I did. Please, stay away from Whirlpool. They ust to be a good brand name. But, they are crappy. They didn't really get my clothes clean when it was working. Many of my clothes wouldn't even get wet.

My 1st load was whites & it came out absolutely white, My water bill pretty much stay the same as it did before I got the machine & I have a 5 year warranty & if not able to be fixed I Get a brand new one on Lowe’s. I have the Maytag Bravos. I think they are very similar. It's a great machine, IF you like working on it all the time. The bearings will blow out and they are expensive to repair even if you do it yourself. I think the Cabrio has the same problem. Mine just went out again, so I 'm a little frustrated at the moment. I wish I could buy an appliance that lasted more than 2 years!
Let’s talk about the Speed Queen new washing ( swishing ) method and how clean the clothes come out vs the old school washing method used by Whirlpool and how clean their clothes come out.
It’s about performance and Speed Queen made a huge change for 2018 model. The Whirlpool commercial washers and dryers are built on the commercial assembly line, not the residentially line, and the build quality is very similar between both brands with great warranties for both.
Again, it’s performance and how well the clothes are cleaned. Great videos for both commercial washers that demonstrate this.
Sorry SQ don’t need no stinking separate line to build them commercially. SQ is commercial period where whirlpool isn’t and thinks it can build a commercial washer blah.. Maytags of old didn’t need a separate treatment of build either. Maytag under whirlpool is dolled up excuse to screw you out of more money that has no appreciable benefit in the commercial industry!
Keith Anderson is a few years out of date the post 2017 SQ are different and don't clean well.
Check out the latest reviews of the SQ TR5000 series. They've gone full old-school again.

Aside from the Wash action issue on Speed Queens, which is preference. They eliminated the Transmission in the new design and in the process took out a possible point of failure.
They took it out for he efficiency design. Actually quite opposite, they aren’t made as well as they used to be.
My new Maytag Washer is so loud --- it echos all through the house. The Speed Queen is suppose to be quiet. I have seen reviews as to how Quiet the SQ is. I am stuck with the Maytag until it blows up i guess --- and it appears that will be within a year or two.

We once had a Samsung washer that flooded our house. When I looked inside and saw how it was made to flood, I threw it away after a year of ownership preferring to keep our house. Later there was a class action lawsuit against Samsung, the settlement was the lawyers got money and the consumers got mailed a sticker to be placed around the control knob. Two thirds of the washer's settings (which blow the washer up) were no longer there and we were supposed to only turn the knob to positions which still had lines and pray. I would much prefer to have a noisy washer than a household flooding device.
The Speed Queen TR series are quiet and make a nice swooshing sound. the Speed Queen TC series, or classic series, is louder than the commercial Maytags.
I am looking for some one to find me if there is any repair center in pakistan . my Maytag washer model GA-210 is not agitating presently .it has never been needed any repair ever since I bought it in year 1980 may be .
You did not clarify anything between the 2 washers. I think you said the speed queen does have a pc board which is absolutely unnecessary for standard electromechanical controls. That, I don't want!!!
My Speed Queen BASIC with its stainless steel tub, basic panel, heavy and sturdy beats both my old Maytags. Newer Maytags seem so plastic. My Speed Queen, with my relatively small loads does a marvelous job, whites super white.
In this case hes referring to the Maytag Commercial line of laundry machines. Built like tanks, not unlike the Speed Queen.
What energy efficiency features does it have?
The Speed Queen gets your clothes clean on the first wash, so you don’t need to rewash them!

Had a 4 year old samsung top load that I've spent 600 bucks on fixing and I said 'f' it and went and bought a speed queen. Paid over 1k for it but itll be cleaner and last longer with a 35 minute wash cycle vs. A hour and 20 minutes. I'll take it.

I still think the maytag washes better than the new SQ model.
Look at the 2019 Speed Queens, the whole line.
The AWN632SP116TW01 is entirely different from the TR- (TR-ash?) series machines, mechanically almost identical to the 2017 model top-loaders.
The only thing the TR-series has in common with the older SQ machines is the general appearance of the cabinet.

The Maytag has plastic transmission parts ..the speed queen is very well built and all metal parts and metal transmission. I researched this ALOT. Before I bought the speed queen. I read alot of misery from Maytag owners

Speed Queens weigh approx 190 lbs. This Maytag weighs approx 155 lbs. Hello?

The 2018 model SQ washers do NOT get laundry clean! Buy that Maytag set instead!!

Watch some of the posts showing the wash action of the machines built before the so-called "DUAL-ACTION" agitators: the Kelvinator, the Westinghouse "DEEP RAMP", the Kenmore "SUPER ROTO SWIRL", the Frigidaire Unimatic, Pulsamatic, and Jet Cone action, Philco "AUTOMAGIC" machines (and the list goes on and on) of fifty years ago, many of the old machines did a fine job of turning the clothes over with a one-piece dasher, with the added benefit of better reliability.
how can that be? I have washed clothes in the bathtub and used a toilet bowl plunger to agitate... out comes clean clothes! Given that... any washer will 'clean' clothes.

We did. The may tag is crap. It broke down three times in less than a year
Washing clothes is not where the cost is. Dying time costs. I noted as a child, the Speed Queen spun much faster than the Maytag. extracting more water. It was made by GM. I bought a slightly used Commercial Maytag they bought at Lowes. It had died just after the short 90 or so day warranty went out. I found I could not fix it, all electronic. Throwing 6 heavy towels into a rinse in each machine, which load drys faster is key to economy. Which has the best tumble count in the water as the towels cycle through the wash. These questions and relevant point are never mentioned. Just the dials. I like the repairable long lasting minus the microprocessor. That is takes only one time to spin the water out, another plus. The Maytag you need to spin again and again, as seen by my eyes. As for the GE. Unlike Sam Singing praise of his I Love Samsung, my latest purchase I moan "Geeeee". My front loading Samsung was the best washer I ever had included useful electronics that it never failed to spin dry, etc. My GE is hard to spin, a front loader I don't love, but it is still working. I never really liked Maytag. My take. Useful information.
Nice sells pitch. Good job, but this one looks like a 2018 model.
Bought the old school speed queen they don't make it anymore it is 100% non electronic version back in 2014. Cloths get clean no soap left in it or stinking water. The only thing I notice is I think the screw type agitation is better because it actually turns the cloths over no one sells those anymore. I don't need to watch TV on my washer if it ever breaks all the parts are cheap and easy to replace.
The new SQ AWN632SP116TW01, product code TC5000WN, has the virtues of the older machine, and does a fine job cleaning my clothes, certainly better than the LG WT1101CW it replaced.
I have seen that with a big load of bedding (two 60X70 inch fluffy fleece "throws" sold by Sam's Club) it turns the load over easily, no need for the "screw".
The electronic controls are intuitive and work well. Best of all, it finishes a load in under a half-hour, add 10 minutes for the extra rinse.
I have seen videos of older machines, notably the deep-ramp Westinghouse and the "Super Roto Swirl" Kenmores, and they roll the load at least as well as the screws. If you really want turnover, the Frigidaire Pulsamatic (we had one when I was a kid) is hard to beat, and the Philco "Automagic" is also worth a look.
I own the Maytag Commercial and its performance outshines the Speed Queen Swisher.
I agree Bill I bought mine last year after getting rid of the MAYTAG Centennial model-Maytag got it right this time.

Really? Yet customer reviews for Maytag, LG, Whirlpool, & Samsung are horrendous on consumeraffairs.com, facebook, & Amazon but no complaints for Speed Queen, I wonder why? I'll stick with Speed Queen cause all I ever see is praise for that brand.

Our Speed Queen does not clean the clothes…
Have to soak dirty jeans overnight and then wash them though 3 wash cycles and they still have dirt spots in them…
Maybe Speed Queens will last longer but who cares if they can’t do the job
Had 2 front loaders...they can smell very bad after awhile and so will your clothes. Heavy Mold is a constant issue on the front door seal. I dont care about...just keeping the door open to dry...its very foul. No more.
1st load with the SQ and all that dirt the others couldnt get rid of was in the water. Its not pretty or as quiet as those front loaders, but some rather have that instead.

Better is not relative in these cases, one will get a stain out better than the other.
This is bad. The new speed queens are totally redesigned and work nothing like the sq's of old. The camera doesent show you the washers, just this guy talking smack. Awful.
The newest SQ machines (product code TC5000WN, model AWN632SP116TW01) have returned to the older wash action and are the workhorses we have praised for the past sixty years.
There is a real choice again.
Do yourself a favor look at the warranty and reputation comparison .Now fact Maytag only has one year warranty 'as A Speed Queen has a built-in 5 year warranty so do the math you can pay for the Maytag to be fixed again soon or you can have 5 year warranty on a Speed Queen 5 yearS .Now do not buy any machine with any electronic push button boards you will be sorry in about 3 to 5 years time as fact .the electronic boards suck .they're super cheaply designed to go out much quicker and then you have PAY FOR a new board plus service fees. Now if you have a washer of any brand do yourself a big favor if your house is over 5 years old .the Washer plugs into the wall socket it ,has has been heated and cooled way many times as it tends to break down over time so if you get a new machine change the outlet wall plug and the breaker. it's not expensive to do this as A preventive maintenance your will appreciate in the long run I changed the breaker and the wall plug and it hasn't stopped once in a year now .Now if the water takes to long to fill the tank. the answer is simple shut the water off at the hose on the washer.and take off the hot water and then the cold water hoses connected to the washer .They're suppose to have a wire mesh and ring rubber filter screen in the hose heads .that stops any sediment from getting in to your tank or washer pump or clothes Now be careful or gentle and pull out the screen out of the hose ,Now you'll see the screen is most likely stopped up badly with sediments so the water can't flow freely at all .The sediment builds up and restricts the flow badly .I gently used a knife tip to pry rubber part up the screen came up and out don't pull hard or you could tear it .I saw mine was severely built up .I cleaned both the hose screens out with hot water and simple green or CLR .I used a toothpick to clean the screen with gently so not to tear the mesh. I put them both back in and then it filled up much faster than before .if need be and replace the old hoses with new ones because the sediment is built up badly in the old hoses to so trash them .Now clean the hose filters ever 90 days if needed .

The new SQ is a front load washer mount like a top load...bad design... Maytag new 👑 or Queen if you prefer.
I had a Maytag “commercial.” It broke down in two years. Not a good machine.
My wife gave away our speed queen for a newer POS... now I am dealing with a dead washer... Sure wish I still had the Speed Queen...

What do you mean by "commercial washing machine"? What's non commercial one and what's the difference. Does "commercial" mean they are actually used in laundromats? Is that really true? Something mighty suspicious about the term commercial. Seems like a marketing buzz word.
Maybe these will be good for rentals, washer, dryers and dishwasher are 80% of the problems I have, im jealous of my dad days as a landlord evryone had to provide there own dishwashers and washer and dryers, that would be heaven.
If you want an appliance that will start failing in 5 years, buy the garbage Maytag that is made by Whirlpool. You may save a few bucks each year on electricity, but who cares. If you want a machine "Built in the USA" that you can plug in, use every day, every week, and forget about, without ever having breakdowns year after year, then buy a Speed Queen. I am done buying garbage appliances that go to landfills after a few years. Bought a Speed Queen, have had for 5 years now, not a single issue. Getting ready to throw away my garbage Samsung Dryer because it breaks non stop too, and replace with a commercial Speed Queen.
My whirlpool lasted 2 years. I’m beyond pissed. No kids here so very minimal use and 2 years was all it took? What speed queen model do you have? I’m currently searching and looking closely at the TR5 model.
All we want is old school soaking and turning clothes in about 30-40 minutes. My water bill is 30 bucks a month. Electric about 100 bucks. Gas about 150 a month in winter. The new machines use less water, yet run about 1 hour using alot of electricity! Any new changes are crap.
Look at the energy guides I promise the speed queen wins every time on efficiency

We spent a bundle purchasing a top-of-the-line SQ electronic control panel washer/dryer a few years ago. So far, they have both been very disappointing! Both units SQUEAK-SQUEAK-SQUEAK while running and the because the company now powder paints the units (rather than the better porcelain paint they USED to use), the washer lid interior and area above the agitator (bleach dispenser, etc.) have already turned a sickly yellow color from using it 2-3 times each week.
Also, we've been waiting on a replacement part for the dryer for nearly FIVE months and PUH-LEEZE, I don't want to hear about COVID or anything else like that. You DO have our money!
We had less trouble from our Maytag units that the SQ units replaced! I will go back to them next time. Speed Queen is pathetic.

Unfortunately you didn't go into the mechanics of both washers. The Maytag is made by Whirlpool and is one of the biggest pieces of junk ever made. It has the "sewing machine" transmission and lid lock on the lid. When the tranny starts to leak or fails - not replaceable. JUNK. The Speed Queen isn't perfect but it is repairable. In my opinion - you're talking about 2 washers that are like apples to oranges. Keep selling those maytags - because when they break customers go back to OLDER used washers that last.
SQ is NOT the same old technology since 2018. Before 2017 yes, NO MORE. Do NOT buy a new 2018 SQ they are junk now.
You might revise your post after checking out the 2019 TC5000 machines. SQ actually revived the 2017 (and earlier) design and mechanicals; these are now available at some Speed Queen dealers and priced between the mid-line and top-line agi-tub models. Reviews are encouraging. I just bought one, to be delivered early this week. See also Lorain Furniture's latest TH-cam posts.

"4 months ago", the time indicated for his post, would have been approximately February, 2019, about three months before the introduction of the SQ model AWN632SP116TW01in early May.
The 2019 TR-series washers share the same deficiencies and basic design flaws as the 2018 Speed Queen washers, and comments about the 2018 models also apply to the 2019 TR machines.
The purpose of my post is to inform the readers that a new version of the "Classic" machines is now available, and that reviews are favorable.

I have seen the Huebsch top-loaders in a coin laundry, and they appear to be almost identical to the Speed Queens in the coin laundry I usually use.
I was unaware of any Huebsch models except for the coin laundry models. I do not know whether there are any models corresponding to the home market machines, or if they offer a model comparable to the SQ "Classic" AWN632SP116TW01.
I have seen Speed Queen front-loaders on the ALLIANCE LAUNDRY SYSTEMS website, and my usual coin laundry has some IPSO machines (also made by Alliance), but I have always used top-loaders at home.
The SQ home front-load machines appear to be priced about twice the cost of the top-loader, if that's anything to go by.
Also keep in mind that the SQ Classic top-loader has a relatively small load capacity (3.2 cubic feet). It is also a bit noisy with a steady droning hum from the motor, not so much a problem with a separate laundry room or a basement or garage location. It has not gone off-balance and makes no clunking or chirping noises like my LG Or GE machines, no jackhammer sound effects like my last Whirlpool made.
If your friend can get along with the capacity limitation, the Speed Queen Classic might be a good fit.

Putting the word commercial doesn’t make it a commercial unit. I don’t believe you’ll find any of these in a laundry mat.
Keith needs to do his homework! These washers are not like the old style, they are completely different in design! they also take over a hour to wash normal cycle, the Maytag takes 95 minutes on normal cycle!
Just bought the newly available (may 2019) SQ T5000 series washer; for whatever reason Alliance has revived the mechanical washing action of the 2017 and earlier Speed Queens, complete with the two-speed transmission and laundromat-tough durability. Reviews are encouraging. And the normal cycle for the TC5000 is estimated at less than a half-hour.

Maytag sucks now bought a maytag commercial washer 5 years ago and little did I know it has a weak plastic hub and cheap very easy rustable transmission hub splines. New transmission cost 300 hub cost 20 then labor. Just not worth it. Buy a speed queen!!!

@@marka6187 I have sold Commercial Laundry equipment for over 25 years, I have serviced them and I don't know why you felt the need to reply but you are dead wrong! That is the whole point behind the "Commercial Grade" designation. I know both of these models well and their "Commercial", not "Grade" counterparts and they are significantly different in design, components and durability. The exception was not so, at least for Maytag, some time back which is why they worked for so long they were handed down to younger generations but that eased to be the case years ago!

I have a new Speed queen and It's a workhorse now fact the accusing Maytag comparison test they did where a cloth goes from the top went to the bottom is pure used car salesman tactics of deception for they must sell a Maytag with obvious trickery only .Maytag has some of the worse machines made and fact Speed Queen they are workhorse machines .They do in fact proved to stand to the test of time and durability as fact ,now answer this why didn't Maytag do that ?, it's simple their low quality made units can't stand up to the real world testing as common fact .Now think why did thousands of laundromat owners for many decades now chose the Speed Queens over most others ,well the earned facts speak for itself. the speed Queens hard earned reputation speaks loud and clear for itself while Maytag only brags on its "own self" as it pats itself on its own back for being a proven over time a second rate machine that only sells pitch praises it's own name here which is pathetic at best .fact Speed Queen has earned it's good reputation the hardest way possible but Maytag misdirection here clearly to do all they can to sell a far cheaper built MayTag so Maytag is out to steal sales anyway they can which is shameful .

The SQ machines at the coin laundry a half-block from my house are at least 35 years old and still working. Alliance Laundry Systems (Speed Queen, Huebsch, IPSO, and other commercial brands) tests their designs to failure, with a target of 10,400 loads (8 loads a week for 25 years) for the home-style machines.

Purchased SQ top loader wash machine around 15 years ago. Motor did not last more than 5 years. Knobs broke. I believed I was getting a old mom and pop last 30 year washer. Nah , did not work out that way with me. When I called SQ tech/service I got a woman that was nasty nasty nasty and told me I should have gotten extended warranty and basically hung up. I was not mean or a loud horrible speaking customer as one would assume by the way I was treated. Had to pay for motor replacement and I fixed 2 of the 3 knobs myself.
