    Elliott you have absolutely nothing to worry about here!
    A ski jacket for 2,400 ?!?! You can buy a pair of Stöckli Stormriders skis, a Norrona Lofoten Gore-Tex jacket and eat lunch at Deer Valley… HOLY SCHLITZ 😳

    I'm typically a black & grey shaded skier, although I always have a hula shirt over my jacket in the winter unless it's snowing or big pow bluebird day. Spring & summer skiing it's shorts & Hawaii 5O retro! I've got an old bright green thermal winter powder jacket that I forgot when I bought it, but rediscovered in the closet to my delight 2 seasons ago. It's uber warm and light I don't have to layer typically, and the green really stands out. The attention whoring side of my personality does luvs that! Thanks Easy E!

    Over $2k for a jacket?!?!? My first ski jacket was from Columbia Sportswear and cost around $200. I loved that jacket! I had it for nearly 20 years until the main zipper broke. Columbia probably would have replaced the zipper under their lifetime limited warranty, but i was an idiot and gave it away. I replaced that jacket with one from Marmot for about $350. I've had my Marmot jacket for 10 or 12 years. So, two ski jackets in 30+ years for $550. And, I'll wear my ski jackets for lots of other winter activities, like tubing, snowmobiling, shoveling, etc. Both of the ski jackets I've owned included zip-out liners so I could use them in varying conditions throughout the season. If it's REALLY cold, I'll add a sweatshirt or sweater.
    I always get a kick out of your videos! You are so entertaining.

      It's wild, I got my Armada jacket for $140 during a sale, and just grabbed a used marmot shell for like $200 give or take and I thought that was kind of pricey lol.

    Lol holy crap. Outer gear is simple
    1. Gore is waterproof and breathable. There are equally good options look at the penetration tests if you care
    2. If you want waterproof, you need taped seams. This matters because seam always intersect at motion points... besides the fact that any stitching is the only point of failure
    3. Breathability is a HUGE factor. Go with a light & tight outside shell with pockets that work for you (layer up underneath, and a simple down vest will compress into a pocket)
    4. Quality seam-taped outer garments will last 12 years minimum
    I always use my gear hard. It wears at the shoulder seams, pants wear at the knees and boot cuffs
    When you feel wet, repeat the purchase cycle

    No mention about the colour. One of my requirements for a ski jacket is that I’m easy for people to see in their peripheral vision, a white ski jacket definitely fails on that requirement.

    A question not mentioned: why pay so much for these jackets given the much cheaper alternatives.

    The spot that gets cold for me is my lower back/booty area.. My jacket does cover that area but I think it is because there is some space there.. Maybe I need a longer sweater or something..
    I would add that I grew up in Southern Wisconsin and there is a lot of humidity out there.. So it is easy to get sweaty and to stay sweaty and then to get cold.. Out here in the West it is a lot drier so the sweat pretty much evaporates instantly.. If it is going to get above 25 then I am good with just wearing a windbreaker with layers underneath..
    One of my jackets has the arm pocket and it is so nice to have.. My other jackets have chest pockets which are nice but not nearly as nice as the arm pocket..
    She might be in Utah but you are in your own private Idaho.. Ha Ha.. Sorry I couldn't resist..

    How cold does it actually get in the US that you need wear down clothng while skiing? 🙀
    I'm skiing mostly in austria and the cold days are usually no more than -25°C/-13°F.
    So clothing is not a big issue: thin merino baselayer + merino-fleece jacket + uninsulated shell jacket + lightly padded softshell pants and you're good.
    When it's warmer like 0-20°F i usually drop the fleece jacket from this setup. And in spring conditions >25°F just baselayer+fleece (letting the wind through and keeps you cool).

    7:20 No way has no marketer ever pulled extra money with a brand name. Right?
    8:46 taping is more for keeping the water in, not about the warm escaping. You lose more heat from the insulation pressing thinner than from a single seam. And your waistband, collar or sleeves are not air tight, either.

    People who spend $2400 for a ski jacket are not watching youtube reviews, so the review is a complete waste of time.
    My last jkt lasted about 20 years and current one is about 7 yrs old. So I am with you on that front.
    Peace!

    You can get a waterproof / breathable 3L jacket in the off season for about $225-$275. I get a shell type jacket as you can always layer underneath as the temp dictates. When it is cold, add a few layers. When it is 55 degrees during spring, wear only a thin long sleeve wool shirt under the jacket. I do the same with the 3L shell pants. I have only one and need only one ski jacket at a time and my jackets last about 5-7 years and I wash it at the end of each season with a tech wash at the laundromat. And as mentioned by Elliot, the pass pocket on the lower sleeve is awesome when going through the gates at the lifts. I have been using the Stio Environ jacket for the past 2 seasons and love it. They are about $250 when on sale. Also has a removable hood since I never use the hood because of my helmet. Looks sharp with the collar up. European ripper style. LOL

    • @beijihu
      @beijihu หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I also recommend a 3L jacket, without any insulation material if possible (instead get the warmth from layers underneath).
      Many mondern washing machines have a steam-clean program, which is perfect for removing sweaty-odor from hardshell clothing without actually washing it (which would kill the DWR coating). Just let it steam 30-60minutes, hang up the slighty damp jacket/pants for few hours to dry and they smell 100% fresh the next time you go skiing. The layers (if not down) can also be washed every (few) day(s).
      Heavily padded classic ski jacket that's just washed once a season? Juck 🤮

      @igetu2c หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@beijihu Great idea on the steam cycle. I use the tech wash since that is what is recommended by the manufacturer. My jacket does not get a smell problem. It just gets stained. In April this year, my buddy on the lift with me got oily water dripped on him as we under a pole. The tech wash did a good job getting 90% of the stain out. This is why I just buy black colored pants and jacket. Always appear to be clean...

    Down is great, but my really highly insulating down jacket from Helly Hansen basically never comes out when I'm skiing or otherwise active outdoors. It's just too warm. I went skiing on a -10F (-23C) day here in Minnesota, and I had my down jacket on under my shell, and I had to ski with both jackets unzipped the whole day because I was so warm, and I'm a bit sensitive to cold.
    That was an interesting review. There's a lot of skepticism toward luxury fashion brands makings skis and ski gear, where at least I expect that while the garments may look good (to some people, anyway), they may have questionable durability or performance. Moncler did seem like the kind of brand which was comically overpriced but at least would do a proper job of good ski clothing, and this reinforced that perception. I actually don't think there's enough exhaustive, rigorous reviewing of overpriced luxury products which could do a lot to dispel fantasies people have of owning certain overpriced yet fashionable products, or at least separate the ones that aren't total crap. Comparison may be the thief of joy, but I think a lot of luxury/fashion brands have the unfair advantage of avoiding comparison, at least in certain product categories, rarely being compared to products that are better value for money.

    I forgot to mention that Prada, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Georgio Armani, Fendi, Hell is for Heroes, Jet Set and Sease also produce very expensive ski jackets and pants. They sell a ton of them over in Europe and we are just starting to see more of them being sold of here in the US and Canada now.

      Well, call me biased,, but all the people i see in such jackets (also Bogner etc.) probably prefere to have a prosecco on the balcony than skiing. The ratio of "normal" jackets to those jackets increases exponentially in resorts like St. Moritz or Zermatt - which isn't a badge for their skiing in this case, more a status symbol.
      Cheers from Switzerland

      @@WaechterDerNacht Do you also have those, usually guys, skiing in replica racing-team clothing in switzerland? I always cringe hard when i see them and then they are on beginner allmountain skis with binding set to Z=5, skiing like Curated staff 😹

    • @robruf
      @robruf หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@beijihu No, I don't have any those mentioned above. However, Prada used to supply The Leading Ski Schools in Europe back in the early 2000's. I think they started out supplying; Val Gardena, St. Moritz, and Megeve. They were supplying high performing ski gear to ski instructors before they rolled it out to customers. They used to be the best of the best. Now, they are not and many other brands have surpassed them. I don't think that you have seen any recent Bogner jackets, as they have gotten away from the replica racing team clothing and now they look pretty much like any other ski jacket that you see on the mountain.

    Would you like a used motorcycle? Or a jacket and pants?
    The price is absolutely outrageous. The company has no shame and people who pay this kind of money for a couple pieces of clothing are out of their minds.
