The thing about powder days is that unless it's dumping all day, or you're able to ski on a Tuesday....things will get skied out pretty quickly, so I want a powder ski that can also handle packed out crud.
Thanks for sharing! Excited for my Peak 110s to arrive. I will say my Fischer Ranger 108s aren’t ideal in lighter wasatch snow, but are excellent for heavier coastal snow.
Great video... these are my favorite ski widths for skiing mountains like Bogus and Brundage (most of the time anyway). Although I'd consider all of these you mentioned All-Mountain skis - I think of a "Powder" ski as 110+ wide. I have a pair of Black Crows Noctas that are 122 - but, as you mentioned, are only really fun to ski a handful of days every ski season.
Love my QST 106s. They actually do surprisingly well on piste as well. As someone who switched from snowboarding to skiing, they do feel great in powder.
I have a pair of the new Candide AK 121’s, they DESTROY any other pow ski that exists, ZERO competition. I buy 2-3 brand new pairs of skis every single year, I’ve skied them all, the Candide’s in pow of any depth are untouchable. Also, the shred chop and you can arc turns on the groomers without any issues. I’ve got the Candide BC 111’s too and they’re also fantastic.
I have some mindbender 116c that I love! They delaminated last year. I used them as early season I don't care skiis. Ended up with bent 110 I definitely love these
As someone who just bought a pair of black crows atris skis on the last day of the last season i was hoping you would touch on how they preform on groomers. Also since its going to be my only ski for the coming season. Even tho you didnt your words of wisdom still somehow made me even more exited about next season.
I agree the tips on qst 106 do cross a bit.I am on the 189 which is a tad long for me. 185 is more my perfect size so I assumed this was why. But interesting you are seeing it too. Your review makes me want to try the atris. But I love the qst so much and it's the perfect ski for snowbasin.
I know this is about Powder skis, but Skiessentials has Atomic Ti 88's 184 length for $655 w/Tyrolia 14 Attack bindings. I know you don't like the Tryolia's, 12s I think are on my old Head Kore 99s they've been good for me. Seems like a good price, you love this ski and you've recommended it to me to round out my quiver, and my hands are shaking to use the ole charge card!
I see the Atris often in the Tahoe area. I'm honestly torn between Bent 110 & QST 106. The big pow performance and responsiveness of the Bent 110 certainly speaks to me, but the speed and Sendiness of the QST 106 bark louder! I do like quick responsive turns in trees, yet I feel like I can handle the QST, I'm 'pretty decent' in the pow & trees. I struggle with speed in 3+ ft, maybe it's confidence. I've seen lots of the QST 106 at Squaw Valley so speaks highly for the ski. Thanks Elliot!
Nice skiing on the Atris! Totally impressed. I guess that ski would work well where they are based - snow conditions are pretty 'variable' in Cham now it has got warmer. I was trying to find out where they actually make the skis, as Dynastar is only 15 miles away. Anyone know?
Love this video! Feeling good about my Bent 110 (Shift bindings) purchase this summer. I've also got QST 98 (also Shift - formerly my one ski quiver) and Mirus Cors. Do I need anything else? 🧐
@@kyrieirving8886 They work perfectly for me on piste as well as in powder (as well as downhill bindings) and of course day touring. Zero complaints - Note - I haven't used the Warden ever specifically.
I mentioned this before and I am going to try to say it different.. Fresh untouched POW is one thing but trying to find that can be a challenge.. When I was on the QST 106 x 188 they handled great in POW and in chop.. They had a really long turn radius and they were big skis so they did not like quick turns.. The kind of turns when there is a lot of people or in moguls or in tight trees or in tight catwalks..
Another practical and informative video. My only suggestion is to size up in length and width regarding your dedicated powder ski. Should not be an issue if you get a lighter weight playful ski. It is all about better flotation on those 12+ inch dump days, in my opinion. I love my Armada ARV JJ 116s (not UL), but wish I had gotten the 192 cm length rather than the 185 cm length. I am looking for the 2024 Bent Chetler 120s in the 192cm length. I want a used pair with demo bindings already mounted so other people can ski them as well. Trying to find them for below $600. I am concerned that the changes with 2025 skis might make them too stiff for what I am looking for.
@@bearclaw5115 If you are waiting on a decent deal for the 2025s, you may want to look on KSL classifieds and other sites like OfferUp, etc. I have a feeling that some buyers may put them up for sale after skiing them for a few days. Probably won't get skis with demo bindings, but may be able to get your skis much sooner than April 2025. Also true if you want the longest length since some people may have bought the 190s and find out they are just too long for them.
Totally agree. None of these are really powder skis. They're versatile soft snow skis. I have just got a pair of Faction Studio 4's which are 122 underfoot. They look like the older C5.0s but have a wee bit of camber. Amazing in anything over buckle depth light snow.
I got a question that I wanted to ask for many times after seeing your prev videos. You mentioned multiple times that the QST 106 makes you sit back a little bit to surf (which I don't know how coz I thought we always avoid sitting back at all cost). What about the QST 98, which should be wide enough for pow in the east. Is it also a "sit back" ski? Its turning radius is shorter and you mentioned they are great all around ski to take on trip out west, but this sit back thing is really worrying me. Thanks in advance!
he only talks about the same 5-6 skis unfortunately, QST, bent, maverick yawnnn. Yep I replied before I actually watched the video and I wasn't too much far off.
QST 106 enough ski for a Rockies ski trip? Alta, Jackson Hole, Big Sky. The classics. Wondering if I should bring another wider pair. What do you Western skiers think?
Hey Alta skier here, Also spend too much time in Jackson... I daily the 106 when it's firmed up and chalky, Any Fresh/Soft/new snow. I go to the Blank or the QST X
Had some since 2018. It's a very in between kind of a ski. Not great on hard snow, not great in soft snow. I hardly every use then now. I have a the BC Divus for groomers and firm off piste conditions, and they're are a heap of fun. Also BC Atris, which is my daily driver here in NZ. I find it a very easy ski to love. Accessible, versatile, reliable, and great in soft mushy snow. I certainly wouldn't call them dedicated powder skis though. Real pow ski start at 115 underfoot.
@@johndarby4503 Thanks for the opinion mate. I ski mainly in alps and i wanted something versatile for most conditions. I have heard good things about camox but i'm still not sure considering the price of the ski.
Oh my dude none of those are powder skis. West coast pow ski top 7 Revolt 121, Maverick 115, sender free 118, Spur, reckoner 124, kastle ZX 115 and ranger 116.
True, he wasn't aiming at purely powder skis. I think he freely acknowledged that in the vid. He was going for more versatile skis that can handle decent pow.
I just dailyed a 114 last year, but I prefer a wider platform in general. There's a reason most ski companies have something that's 120+ still these days, makes a big difference!
I'm not convinced that the east coast needs a powder ski. It just never really happens and when it does it's wrecked by noon. I WISH I could ski in conditions to justify these but it's just not realistic. I'd rather have an 88 and maybe a 96 for any condition
If you are searching out powder days, you'll find them. I've done a number of 2ft powder days in the East. But yeah, it usually gets cut up quick. It sounds like you want some powder performance but don't go out of your way to get it so something in the mid 90's would work well for you, handling most days with ease and taking on some pow when you find it. My ski for this is the Rossi Sender 94ti's. Pretty much a jack of all trades. Elan Ripstick 96, QST 92/98 also in the mix.
Thanks for watching! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Let me know what your favorite powder ski is!

@@RicketySkiReviews Good answer !
For Tahoe I’d want a bit more beef to handle the heavier snow, esp once it’s gets tracked out. I like my Ranger 108s more at Tahoe than at Alta.

That's a pretty versatile set up right there. You have carving, freestyle, trees and powder all locked up!
