Maria (Julie Andrews) sings "My Favorite Things" to the children during a thunderstorm.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
One of the most popular movie musicals of all time, The Sound of Music is based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers. Julie Andrews stars as Maria, a young nun in an Austrian convent who regularly misses her morning prayers because she enjoys going to the hills to sing the title song. Deciding that Maria needs to learn something about the real world before she can take her vows, the Mother Superior (Peggy Wood) sends her off to be governess for the children of the widowed Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). Arriving at the Trapp home, Maria discovers that her new boss is cold and aloof, and his seven children virtual automatons-at least, whenever the Captain is around. Otherwise, the kids are holy terrors, as evidenced by the fact that Maria is the latest in a long line of governesses. But Maria soon ingratiates herself with the children, especially oldest daughter Liesl (Charmian Carr), who is in love with teenaged messenger boy Rolf. As Maria herself begins to fall in love with the Captain, she rushes back to the Abbey so as not to complicate his impending marriage to a glamorous baroness (Eleanor Parker). But the children insist that Maria return, the Baroness steps out of the picture, and Maria and the Captain confirm their love in the song "Something Good." Unhappily, they return home from their honeymoon shortly after the Nazis march into Austria. Already, swastikas have been hung on the Von Trapp ancestral home, and Liesl's boyfriend Rolf has been indoctrinated in the "glories" of the Third Reich. The biggest blow occurs when Von Trapp is called back to active duty in the service of the Fuhrer. The Captain wants nothing to do with Nazism, and he begins making plans to take himself and his family out of Austria.

Thanks just watched the movie and I love it I'm so sad that 7 rings spoiled my perception of such a wonderful tune. I'm so happy to have found the true and pure version. Especially as a 15 year old who is introduced to secular music quite often.
and too see a movie so old yet it I can relate to people from almost a totally different timeline. These are one of the few things I thank the internet for.

This really is an amazing movie. I always used to watch it when I was a little girl. I still know this song off by heart and sing it to myself sometimes. I'm gonna use it as a lullaby for my future kids :)
I used to sing Edelweiss to my daughter when I was pregnant. Years later, she was like 7. One evening i started singing it to her. She immediately burst into tears, telling me how happy this song made her feel....

This song is from the 60s and I swear its got the sickest beat I ever heard, That rythmn is so perfect and addicting you could sing almost any lyrics and make it sound badass. This movie was really a great tribute to how amazing music is and they did a lot of music research to make the songs for this movie. We actually learned about it in my music theory class. When she starts singing it literally gives me chills her voice is F*CKING INCREDIBLE.

Ariana has a really good voice but as long as it's sung in studio and not on concert it's pretty much 9/10 will have auto tune.

There's so much magic in this scene its hard to believe it never would have happened if the screenwriter, Ernest Lehman, hadn't changed it in his adaption from the stage show. They would have been singing "The Lonely Goatherd" for this scene and Maria would have sung this song with the Reverend Mother instead.

Timeless song to make u feel better when you're down
This was the first sequence filmed because it was an easy interior sequence. The harder scenes and the location shots were filmed later.
The final scene filmed was the opening scene.
Since the scenes filmed were not in chronological order... it's the film editing that took care of that. This film did win for Best Film editing besides Best Picture!
