Great review of this product. I have a Blackstone griddle on my equipment list, just don't know if I should get the 17 or 22 version. This review is very helpful. Thank you and take care.
I have one of these 17 inches! Love it! One thing you didn’t mention is its weight! We started with the 22” and it was just too heavy for me to lug around so we brought it back and got the 17 with the carry case . Yes I would buy this again in a heartbeat! I have the slats to go around so the wind isn’t a problem.
Nice update. We use the same Blackstone for camping in our RV. I bought the 22" but found it too large to move around for camping so bought the 17". We have also had it for 3 years also but not nearly as many "miles" on it as you do! For us it is perfect, easy to use, clean and store, especially while on the road. I found the same wind hack using aluminum foil but it has only been needed when very windy. Also, I use a 5 lb propane tank (instead of the 20 lb or the green cylinders) and it has been a good compromise and generally 5 lbs will last the camping season. I do miss using lump charcoal on some cooks but do that when we are at home. Great video.
Ours is a Sunbeam brand but very similar and we have the same heating pattern. Warmer in the middle and cooler at the edges. Burner is in the same configuration as well. Definitely a good cooking surface. We love cooking on ours as well. Great tip with the aluminum foil around the outside. Going to have to try that next time I cook in the wind. Thanks for sharing, Pat
We bought our 17” last year in good part because of your original video - and I can honestly say - YES, we love it!!!! I too find it a good size and don’t mind the one burner Size /weight was a big consideration for us too and I really think like you this is totally good for 2-4 people . Thank You, I appreciate your time in sharing this with us🌞
I waffled back and forth between the 17 and 22, mainly because I wanted the dual zone temperatures. Nice to know this can be used that way to some extent. I settled on the 17, mainly because I expect to use it a lot at home but don't want to leave it out where it can be so easily stolen. This will be easier to take in and out several times/week. Don't know when I would need to travel with it but you never know.
Hello, do you have the Blackstone 17" grill? I would like to work with you to shoot a video or some photos with your Blackstone grill and my accessories, I have two propane adapter hoses for the Blackstone grill that I can send to you for free. You just need to send me a video or some photos of my accessories installed on your Blackstone grill. Would you be willing to do that?
Thank you Patrick for reviewing the Blackstone. We are thinking of getting one. Glad you mentioned what you liked about it and disliked. Thank you for this video.
I have one of the earlier Blackstone 17 models that has the grease tray in the front. Like you have done, I bought the 17" model as it fit nicely into the storage compartment of my Lance 1685. I also ended up buying the Blackstone folding stand that goes with it, as well as a hose/adapter to connect the Blackstone to the trailers quick propane connector. If you run this grill with the little 1 pound green tanks..........they go fast. This griddle is worth it's weight in gold as far as I am concerned. The food it cooks is great, and cleanup is very easy. I plan to keep this griddle around for years to come. But be aware............the purchase of the griddle is just the beginning...............you will always run across "must have" toys that go with the griddle to expand your collection.
We just got one at Christmas, from Walmart-great deal, and am looking forward to using it! We picked up an adapter to hook into the external gas valve on our Lance. Thanks for going over the cleanup, I wasn’t quite sure how to do that!
@@Berrypancakes229 We bought it on Amazon. It’s a Mensi 3/8” male flare elbow adapter which connects to the hose. I can’t paste the picture here but they have a good picture of how it connects on Amazon.

I absolutely love our Blackstone. I have 17" because I will do a lot of solo travel. I would love a bigger one but the size starts to become an issue. We hook it right up to the trailer.
I have the 17, 22, and 36. I use the 22 most of the time. In the winter, I bring the 17 griddle part only in the house to use on my gas stove and put a cat food/tuna can under the front grease hole. I love having the real estate - so much bigger than a skillet! Glad you like yours too! Todd Toven from Blackstone was in town a couple of weeks ago to show off what can be done on it - definitely worth seeing!
We bought ours last year on your recommendation and we love it, same model as yours, I ordered the cover and carrying bag for Father’s Day and it’s great, fits perfect in our storage of our T@B 400, we have used it for ourselves and friends camping as we do some camp trips with friends where each couple takes a turn preparing dinner! So we’ve made a lot of smash burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, loaded grilled cheeses, etc, we love it for breakfast as well, but I’m surprised how much we use it year round at home as well! Thanks for your honest reviews and recommendations Patrick and Patty, you’ve never steered us wrong! Hope one day we see you “On down the road”. Cheers from Canada 🍁
I also have a 17" that I bought for our motorhome, but I have been using it at home. I thinking of buying a large home size Blackstone. Thanks for the video.
I was walking my dog through the Campground and came upon a friend who owned a 22". I asked how it was and that we had looked into buying one He says do you want one and I go we really are looking at buying one and he says again do you want one and I go yea we really interested in one and he says no do you want one I have a 17" i'll give you. He had tried to give it away before we came by but no one wanted it. I jumped with joy and said sure. It had a cover and he gave us 4 cans of propane. Nice people. We love it so much. We are full time RV'ers and it been a great addition to the RV.
We bought the 17" a couple years ago for basically the same reason. It works great for us and when one the kids family goes along from time to time it is still large enough. We keep it in the bed of the truck.
We bought the 22”. There’s a learning curve to cooking on it, but we really like it and keeping it clean hasn’t been difficult. I built a wooden box to carry it in when we go camping, where it gets the most use.

OK…looks great but my concern in a Class B we just bought would be where to put the griddle while cooking. We don’t have room for a table or whatever so…
"Would We Buy The Blackstone 17” Griddle Again?" yep, Today, tomorrow, and the next day! I bought the Adventure Ready 17" Tabletop Griddle/Fryer combo for $147 I don't use the sideburner as often as I thought I would... But, the hinged cover is a game changer!
I enjoyed your review. You speak about several aspects of the griddle. As we see the outside of the griddle, you are experiencing some rusting. Suggestion, clean the rust spots and then after each cleaning of your griddle, wipe the outside with oil too. If you cook with a cast iron skillet, you would also oil the outside of the skillet to keep it seasoned and rust free. Thanks, Skillet
I’ve found that running a propane BBQ with the trailer propane regulator it’s best to remove the regulator or bypass the regulator the the BBQ comes with things don’t like to run behind two regulators. I’ve tried turning on the 20lb bottle slowly it just doesn’t work for me. Great video. If I’m wrong please let me know. I don’t want to play with fire. 😀
You’ve convinced me! I was worried about doing steaks on one, but clearly your point of sealing in the juices has taken away my fears!! Also, friends kept saying the 17” was just too small. I don’t think so, anymore!! Thank you, Patrick!
Riddles work well for a lot of foods, but definitely NOT steak! There is no way in the world you can cook a steak on a griddle that tastes nearly as good as a good grilled steak.
Excellent, top notch video! "That there is a high quality item, Clark. If you don't mind me asking, how much she set you back?" Right now Feb 29th 2024 it is $97 at Home Depot. That's peanuts for such a great grill. I also love flat tops because the fat is what makes it great and when it all drips away it's a darn shame. That there is healthy good fat. I'm picking one up. Thank you
I totally agree Pat. Grills have there place but for camping we love our blackstone 22" griddle. Breakfast, lunch or dinner even deserts can be done with minimal dirty utensils . No pots or pans. Super easy clean up. We subscribe to the "HUNGRY HUSSEY" he has amazing recipes for the Blackstone griddle. We even want to buy a 38" Blackstone griddle to go along with our Weber grill. We bought our 22" Blackstone at Sam's Club for only $99.00 with a cover. We love your videos. THANK YOU. safe travels
We're using the same Coleman grill/griddle with our 400, and it's fine for the 2 of us. I didn't know the Blackstone would fit in the storage compartment, though--that could change our minds! Your dinner looked great!
You can always get the 1# refillable bottles. I use them because it is one less hose etc to drag out. Fill them yourself and be done with it. Check out the ones from flame king those what I bought and use.
Bought the 22" and the base rusted out. Looks like crap. But still works. Called blackstone and they said they would send a new one. Several months later....no replacement yet. Customer service in this case was useless. When it goes completely bad I will be considering a different brand. Probably get the same crap but who knows. Might be better then paying for the name.
Awesome review! Thanks! We just got the same griddle. Haven't even cooked anything on it just yet, so I'm really not even sure where to turn the dial for most cooking. Any suggestions? Turn the dial up half way?
After your initial video a couple of years ago, we bought the 22 inch. It looked like you had yours on a table with a plastic top? I usually try to use the picnic table at our campsite. I guess I’m a bit scared to melt or warp a plastic topped table.
Great reviews of the 17"... thanks. I'm hoping you can help me with a couple of questions. What is the distance from the outermost edge to outermost edge of the screw in feet, both side to side and front to back? Also, how tall are the feet themselves (not counting the threads)? I have a somewhat restricted table area and railing on my boat and wanting to know if it will fit within my limited footprint. Thanks again for the videos... very helpful.
Hey Patrick - great video as always ;>). I have the 22" Blackstone, and it has become my favorite way to cook while camping. My only complaint is the size and weight, but eliminating my need for another stove and/or a BBQ/Charcoal grill is worth it in the end. BTW I have a 2021 Lance 1995, very similar to your 1985. I do have to travel with my Blackstone in the truck, but I am ok with that given the performance overall. On a side note - did you get your recent issues with the Lance solved and again "happy" or has some of the luster worn off?
Mine's going in a garage sale this summer, I'm done, too much trouble. Too small for the house, too heavy and bulky with all the accessories for camping. Use my electric counter top griddle 100X more, just too easy.
Just wondering what it takes to clean that grill top after each use versus a regular bbq grill. I'm also looking at the Pit Boss which has two burners.
Our Weber grill finally became unusable after a solid 12 years of service. It was the model with the side board and propane assisted lighter. After seeing the new exact same model was slightly more expensive than the 32" Blackstone, we decided to buy the Blackstone. In my opinion we made a mistake....going back to charcoal or propane.
All I wanted was one of these grills and instead we bought a fire disk 3 Years ago and it is still in the box LOL and I still don't have my Blackstone oh well one day HEHE
We've used this griddler for a variety of items including steak, fish, vegetables th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMcXT6_MuT0hB3ejyGQQHaeof9bwoWPUf and mushrooms and it's been great! Gets that great smokey flavor when using high heat or sear. The grill works amazingly simple and very low smoke for what it is. Heat gets up fairly quick, especially on closed position. The griddler side is fairly simple, better for eggs and pancakes rather than any cooking. Use the flat plates with the grill side if needed.Cleanup is easy and having heat on both sides is great for cooking a large amount or panini press. This definitely gets hot though so be careful with the sides.
I jumped on the black stone bandwagon 2 years ago and i used it for truck camping. To me, it was just Ok. There isn’t anything i could do on it, that I can’t do on a cast iron griddle or pan. And to me the clean up was a mess. I’ve never used so many paper towels in my life to wipe it down, then season it after every use. Buying the loaf pan liners for the grease catch tray was another pain and dont leave it outside uncovered for more then a night or two or you will begin to see rust spots on the cheap metal cook top and have to scrape off all the hard work of seasoning it and start over from scratch. I ended up giving it to my neighbor for her to use while truck camping. To me, it just seemed like another one of those useless kitchen appliances that everyone has to have cause they exploded in popularity.
I heard Sarah Molton (Julia child protege) talk about cooking steak on a surface like the black stone. She says the caramelization happens where the heat touched the meat. Grills only touch a part of the meat, cooking on a something like a Blackstone surface caramelizes the entire surface. Who doesn’t want that?
What do you set it on when camping? Does it get too hot underneath for a portable folding table? We have a 22" with stand, but may downsize to the 17" and no stand and have a quick connect to our motorhome.
I have a 17" and we use it at home and with our popup. I have been told to go to Harbor Freight and get a welding blanket and put it underneath. We have a 6 ft plastic folding table that I would prefer to use it on and not have to shlep back and forth a small metal outdoor table. It just takes up space in the truck
I've tried griddle cooking... the food comes out good, but it's a lot of extra work, you have to have a lot of extra stuff on hand that you wouldn't normally have at your backyard grill, extra tools, extra mess, extra storage, extra room, if you're cooking more than one thing there's no walking away to have a beer with you friends. It's not for me.
So how hot does this grill get? I don't see any temperature markings on the knob/dial. The electric grills give a digital reading. Also how hot does it get on the outside? I'm not sure, but is that a plastic folding table you have it on? Or do you need something like a metal table to keep things from burning?? Also do they come with lids? Do you think you need a lid? Thanks.
Sorry to hear you don't like yours. We still have ours and use it reguarly. The good news is there are lots of grills to choose from. I am sure you have found one that works well for you.
If you buy from Walmart Blackstone will not honor any warranty. They just say to return it to Walmart who will say talk to Blackstone. Guess how I know?

I have a 17” griddle first time using it took an entire camp tank to season the grill..is that normal???
After your initial video a couple of years ago, we bought the 22 inch. It looked like you had yours on a table with a plastic top? I usually try to use the picnic table at our campsite. I guess I’m a bit scared to melt or warp a plastic topped table.
Yes….I’ve never had an issue using ours on a plastic table.
Great review. Helped me decide 👍
I just put a little water to release, scrape and wipe with a paper towel. Super easy.
Those wind flab’s should come with it
What about the propane fittings were can we get new fittings
Our Weber grill finally became unusable after a solid 12 years of service. It was the model with the side board and propane assisted lighter. After seeing the new exact same model was slightly more expensive than the 32" Blackstone, we decided to buy the Blackstone. In my opinion we made a mistake....going back to charcoal or propane.
All I wanted was one of these grills and instead we bought a fire disk 3 Years ago and it is still in the box LOL and I still don't have my Blackstone oh well one day HEHE
We’ve used our Blackstone a lot and love it.
Grill grates for hot dogs and meat. Layes right on the blackstone surface.
Can you fix the igniter if it goes bad? Replacement part available?
That I do not know. Ours is still working after all these years
We've used this griddler for a variety of items including steak, fish, vegetables th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMcXT6_MuT0hB3ejyGQQHaeof9bwoWPUf and mushrooms and it's been great!
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Like most everything in life, people have differing options and that’s ok.
want some cheese with that whine?
@@Rikkitikki-fr7hk maybe. Your mom likes it when I bring her gifts.
@@thetravelinghoundBristol I don't have a mom
Propane hose length will decrease propane flow vs a green can propane flow.
Thank you
I heard Sarah Molton (Julia child protege) talk about cooking steak on a surface like the black stone. She says the caramelization happens where the heat touched the meat. Grills only touch a part of the meat, cooking on a something like a Blackstone surface caramelizes the entire surface. Who doesn’t want that?
We love steaks that way!
What do you set it on when camping? Does it get too hot underneath for a portable folding table? We have a 22" with stand, but may downsize to the 17" and no stand and have a quick connect to our motorhome.
We have a plastic table that came with our Lance that we set it on. It doesn’t seem to get hot enough on the underside because we have had no issues
As far as cooking hot dogs or sausages, I recommend butterflying them. Just cut them down the middle.
I was told the lid is not hinged on this griddle and you cannot use it whe cooking. Is that correct?
How long does the butane tank usually last you
We actually hook ours up to a 20# propane tank and it can last a really long time depending on how much we use it.
What kind of fttings & were can i get them
So how hot does this grill get? I don't see any temperature markings on the knob/dial. The electric grills give a digital reading. Also how hot does it get on the outside? I'm not sure, but is that a plastic folding table you have it on? Or do you need something like a metal table to keep things from burning?? Also do they come with lids? Do you think you need a lid? Thanks.
What type of adaptor do you use to attach it to a 20lb propane bottle?
Get some cheap scrapers from the dollar store, a couple on each side and the back make good cheap windscreens.
Thank you for that tip!
Split your hot dogs in half lengthwise to grill, works better
Yum rusty potatoes
Is it really heavy?
It’s about 25 pounds
I bought two for 39 dollars each.
How? And where?
Yes where
Teflon?
Why does it look a bit rusty near the back
Grilling myth. Searing does not create a barrier to losing juices. I do like your black stone however. 😊
Only sharing what the certified chefs told me
$100 ?
Oh hell no!! I bought it and hate it with a passion. No heat. It all leaks out the sides. Wastes gas galore.
Sorry to hear you don't like yours. We still have ours and use it reguarly. The good news is there are lots of grills to choose from. I am sure you have found one that works well for you.
Did u clean it before u cooked on it ?😂
Mine SUX! After building a pedestal (50 bucks) it barely gets hot enough to cook eggs... and DAMNED sure won't get hot in a breeze...👎👎
If you buy from Walmart Blackstone will not honor any warranty. They just say to return it to Walmart who will say talk to Blackstone. Guess how I know?
To me, I think they are a big expensive fry pan. I'm not one to go and buy the latest gimmicks. Never got a George Forman grill either. Now the sit in eveyr thrift store as junk.
We’ve had ours 3 years and its not going anywhere a thrift store! 😂
@@TravelswithDelaney Just my feeling about all these gimmick sales. Airfryer and instapot. Just different names and styles for old products. Glad you like it.
Yep. If you know how to cook you don't need all this stuff.
Hello, Still need a way to heat up a frying pan no? I’m talking about if you need it for camping, etc. I’m asking because I will camping soon and considering the options. I don’t think this product/concept is a bad idea.
False. It’s a very versatile option that gives freedom w your own little hockey rink for cooking. Also, price is great! Have fun being boring 😂
Why does it look rusty? There has to be a reason why it looks like that?
Do we care if you’d buy it again?
Hello, do you have the Blackstone 17 or 22" grill? I would like to work with you to shoot a video or some photos with your Blackstone grill and my accessories, I have two propane adapter hoses for the Blackstone grill that I can send to you for free. You just need to send me a video or some photos of my accessories installed on your Blackstone grill. Would you be willing to do that?
