I started off with 4 as my first game in the series and then went back and played the older ones. Sims 2 is my favorite by a long shot. Playing any other game in the series just makes me wish I was playing 2 instead. Now the only entertainment I get out of playing 4 is by installing Basemental Drugs and having my Sim become a drug lord while seeing how many Sims I can impregnante/be impregnated by along the way, or by turning the pre existing Sims into hopeless drug addicts.

Fun fact: The aspiration bar in Sims 2 is like a sim's mental health bar and it being low will make them behave unpredictably, like pissing themselves despite there being a toilet

The better call saul to meme house’s breaking bad
For anyone who isn't familiar with TS2, this game easily becomes heavily corrupted by deleting Sims or their Tombstones (due to lingering references to their former ID) - causing among other things:
- Nightmarish Human-Pet hybrids
- Wants to fall in love with Pets or Objects, memories of doing so, or having one as a family member.
- Wants that don't fit the age group (Eg. an Adult wanting to learn Potty Training)
- Sims teleporting around the map.
- Entire Lots vanishing.
If it's only one or two Sims/Tombstones get deleted it can take a while to start showing effects, but once this stuff starts happening the world is basically doomed.
You can also seriously break the game by messing with important characters such as the Grim Reaper or Genie, because these are shared throughout the game, so if Grim breaks in this world he'll break in all of them, with the only way to fix everything being reinstalling the game.
tl;dr if Joel starts messing around too much he could unwittingly turn this into Sims 2 Destruction.
the game is quite unhinged even when it's working properly. i really hope joel continues this series. it has the potential to become more legendary than meme house if the game starts shitting itself without ending up being completely unplayable
The whole "deleting sims and their graves causes corruption" thing was actually proven to be false very recently. But there's definitely still plenty of ways to fuck up this game with the horrifying results you described. It's just fascinating to me how we're still discovering things about this game.

Sims 2 is just natural chaos. It's amazing how the systems interact with eachother. I miss this type of natural Gameplay instead of having to do EVERYTHING in Sims 4

Obviously the jump from 2 to 3 is the most massive in the series, 3 introduced an open world and more house buildings systems.
It would be the best in the series easily if it weren't for the performance
1:07:56 When players have to fumble around in maze-like menus, that boosts the "Hours Played" metric and makes the game look better on paper. Also, the longer someone gets lost in a game menu, the less time that person has to spend on other games. Hooray!

I remember having it on gamecube, it was a totally different game.
I then bought it on pc for very cheap, it took me like 2h to fully install it on my crappy PC and then each loading screen was about 10-15 minutes long and had a chance to crash.
I remember each square of the loading screen slowly filling gave me some shit tons of dopamine in my tiny child brain.
In my head canon this is a prequel to meme house. Set about 40 years before

SBR was originally presented as it's own thing before being revealed to actually be Part 7 of JoJo, and suspiciously Joel has also said that this won't link to the Meme House, but in a sort of way that implies that he's trying to hide something. Only time will tell what happens with the two series.

joel playing the best sims game, finally, even if doesn't have the cool violence mods sims 4 has, if you want to continue Meme House and "downgrade" to Sims 2 as one of the many universes/timelines Liquid Bogan said i'd be glad
i mean, sims 2 to this day has a dedicated following, i just wish simmers from 3/4 gave sims 2 the same love in terms of modding, with way more detailed mods (but man, we got Story Progression and a mod that allows you to place any object up and down the walls, something that wasn't in the main game), they love to revisit 2 and say "sims 4 could never" but i only know 5 sim youtubers that focus on 2 primarily, as others always go back to 4, despite it's huge flaws and EA being greedy (no wonder why 2 is offsale)
and in crusty 800x600 because this game is horrendous to set up on windows 10, you have to change the graphics rules so it can identify your gfx and change resolution there too, also apply a 4 gb patch
hell joel i'd even send you my Downloads folder which has a TON of mods, including anti-corruption ones although some requer third party apps to work (recolors for objects require CEP, per example, but you can play without them, same to CleanUI), it even has a gun mod that uses the repo man's animation, it's very stinky
in case you plan to kill off a lot of sims, move the urns to an empty lot/graveyard for safety measures

There are actually unofficial patches for this game, on top of using command line arguments to run it in windowed mode, it probably would have cooperated better.

Best Sims game easily, only thing I'd say it lacks is the easy custom colouring from 3.
The story Joel shared at the start is similar how i felt with Sims 2, I'd just be hyped to hell to get home and spend like the whole day playing Sims 2 after school. I'd even make my own neighbourhoods full of families I'd spend playing with for weeks or months, even making their own story with like pictures and logs I'd save in the game's journal thing ala what the devs did with the pre-made neighbourhoods.
Also, Strangetown best town, almost every friend i knew would pick that town due to it having ghosts and aliens.
The Sims 2 is one of those games that aged so poorly that it aged well
