    The story of Pauline especially breaks my heart because how they met sounds like the beginning of the sweetest love story. She’s stood up, he swoops in and saves her night, they talk for hours and fall in love. It would be so romantic, something you tell the grandkids some day, but he makes it horrendous and evil. It’s so sad.

      I mean I'm sure there were many soldiers that did vile things in the war, but because they were the 'enemy', and they were german women, it was never noted. This is only recognised as the victims were the allies (rightly so, but my point is that there would have been more than just him that weren't 'deserving' of being mourned)

    At that time, there was a stigma against reporting being attacked. The thinking was that no "modest woman" is ever bothered by men; she must have "done something", even if it was just being out at night. My mother was almost raped by a soldier, and never thought of reporting it

    As someone who works in corrections, you'd be surprised at how likable a lot of the people are who have committed the most horrendous crimes. It's not uncommon for officers to become friendly with people over the course of their incarceration. I wouldn't say that "friendships" develop, but you do get to know the inmates and have good conversations with them. It's a very interesting dynamic.

In the country, the story is well known and a bit sensitive as it didn't happen that long ago. It is however very interesting as it also deals with the failure of the police force, the largest protest in Belgium ever and reforms that followed. The way his and his wife imprisonment is/was handled is also full of stories worth talking about. I don't see it spoken about often but think you would do great as you are always very respectful and handle the cases with tact.

I'll tell you this, and it's pretty smart, most people like to wait for a complete series to be out. It's impatience. I'd rather wait a week for all 3 parts rather than waiting a day or 2 between parts. I forget what all was in the first or second part. So, it's brilliant actually that she does this. It's incredibly sad how a tragic childhood could make an adult who thinks he's well adjusted into a murderer. The comparison to Of Mice and Men makes it sad. I feel sorrow for the women, they didn't deserve that. I also feel sorrow for Eddie, who could've lived a great life had he not murdered or even had the proper resources to cope with trauma instead of having him think that he needed to find it on his on thru murder. This case is a perfect example of what the world is: just when you think everything can be black and white, the world will show you that it isn't. Wow. So it’s weird I mean he just sees a woman in a shop, says hi and kills her, but when he has been talking for hours with a woman and knows her backstory and her family, what she does, her life how can he bring himself to take it?

    • @pree76
      @pree76 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@katarinapivnicki254 Comes down to motive. He was probably mentally ill and his desperation to keep ahold of their voices, which reminded him of his mother most likely, led to him squeezing the area the noise came from as if desperately trying to hold onto it. It’s about mindset, a person can kill someone they know for a few reasons naturally, moments of extreme unbridled anger is the most common. Maybe a situation in which it’s their life or yours or someone you care about more. I don’t think his killings were simply to kill and take the women away from their families. His motives were completely different from a normal reason to kill so understanding it in a empathetic way is probably impossible

  • @kxixxrt
    @kxixxrt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    It's crazy how such severe trauma was repressed in Eddie's mind for so long. he was a 'normal' child all through the time when these severe and traumatic events were happening directly at home. Yet, later in life, he snapped and gave in to the long term effect of these events. The singing from his mother, his only comfort, became his only coping method, yet also his driving force to replace her and kill. He wanted to 'keep' their voices forever and return to that state of comfort he once had when with his mother.
    It just goes to show that trauma can have deep, deep effects on the brain even when it's not obvious.

There was a deep meaning to it and what it meant to him, the force behind his actions, if you will. I was seeing that the entire time through the videos. You truly are honing in on your skills of investigating and understanding the minds of those criminals. Keep going on this path. You are AMAZING!!!!! I don't understand how he can be so obsessed with women's voices but still decide he wants to silence them forever. It's like his love for their voices and his hatred of women raged a war inside him.
    It's also so weird how he almost has this disconnect when he was drunk. He killed these women when he was wasted then felt guilt and shame when he was sober. So much so that he subconsciously wanted to be stopped.
    He was an extremely confused person. The psychology of this man's brain would be fascinating to study.
