- By the time the Earth reaches its closest point to the sun next January, scientists believe the star could be experiencing what's known as a solar maximum. Although the sun will still be some 91 million miles away, the peak in solar activity could affect us here on Earth. Derrick Pitts, chief astronomer at the Franklin Institute, joins CBS News to break down what happens to the sun and Earth during a solar maximum and how we can prepare.

Derek has a beautiful voice!
The sun at maximum activity is stunning to look at.
The eleven year sun cycle is interesting.
Apologies for making a boring list; I am too tired to do better right now.
What if the solar maximum isn't coming early, but it is just going to be way worse than scientists thought?
Exactly right.
The sun is a ball of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace
Impressive
Thank you for your research. I find your videos are well done. RIght now Im keeping an eye on Cannafarm ltd
Get the sunscreen ready😂😂😂
The last solar maximum was in 2014 9 years ago.
Really!!!
We is doomed
Next question! Why is our magnetosphere weakening? And what happens when X100 flares hit it, in this condition?
Carrington Event.
Do we know when the Earth meets a solar minimum? Can astronomers predict if the Planet is moving towards the sun every resolution?
These stories on how to prevent these things from happening helps me sleep a bit better at night.
Wait will we like have no electricity so rotting food from the fridge and stuff bro I’m scared 😭 also that means no phone so no 911 because we can’t charge our phones lol
I personally love solar maximum, assuming there's not a Carrington type event.
Feel it coming?
If we’re so far from the sun why was it so damn hot that day lol
Because its 5500 degree celcius bruh
Also it's big causing an illusion
Because we are destroying the ozone layer keeping the suns radiation out !
Nothing to be worried about
You should be talking about solar minimum.
#Sun in !Earth 23 2024
Pity that couldn't be harnessed
TH-cam doesn't recognise a search for grand solar minimum, it gives me this junk.
Buy som water, toilet paper, and canned goods. Make sure you can heat your home in the winter if the power goes out. Lots of things can happen at any time and basic preparation can make a hard situation a little easier.
how are you guys in the comments calm about this?
Because it isn't a rare occurrence whatsoever. Maybe they are rational people that don't live off reactions to fear or fear triggers on the internet... just a thought
Because this happens so frequently and, Earth is prepped for such instances! We have a lovely magnetic field of our own which protects us. Because of this, we are left with some beautiful aurora borealis, and perhaps some minor things such as what the astronomer mentioned.
Really..really..93 million miles
Should We panic about this solar storm for 2024, power out, should we WORRIED ABOUT THIS RIGHT NOW. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Yess this will be dangerous
@@Supriya_mondal136 Don't scare me. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
@@b.aorellana6079 i am already depressed and in stress 😭
Not really since this is normal sun cycle every 11 years and the last was in 2013-2014
@@b.aorellana6079no need to freak out. Just prepare for the worst, just in case like anything else. Have a generator or solar generator as a backup. To protect those you can make a faraday cage.
The media on earth goes into a frenzy about global warming?
And fail to mention that 2023 is not only a northern solar summer but also solar maximum. They cannot manipulate you with fear if you actually understand science climate and astronomy
27 million degrees at it's core? Isn't there a law that says after a certain temp the energy form changes from heat?
The bible says that the 'elements will melt by fervent heat'.Metal, satellites, pavenent, animals, people .He didnt go into that detail ,did he?
The bible also says "thou shall not post-hoc this story into scientific findings 2000+ years from now"
Baba Vanga called it.. 2023
What happens to Earth during a solar maximum? Climate change.
apparently total internet and power grid blackout
Thank you for sharing your insights and recommendations. Its great to explore various investment options, especially well-known companies like Cannafarm Ltd that are gaining popularity. Adding different ventures to our portfolio can help reduce risks in
ASK THE AMISH
Jesus is returning very very soon. Maybe 2025
Omg lmao
…hot gas😎✈️
A whole lot of it. And you know where they are blowing it
It gets called global warming or climate change or some other nonsense term.
Both are very real but totally different things from this..
Want to blame God ?
Umhm, what produces magnetic fields, the essence of the Proton & Neutron? Yeah, okay but what am I going to do when the Solar Maxima hits? Maybe take a gas-x?
A black in the NASA 😂 lol USA is going down
Oh no the world is going to end. 🤪
Don't forget to do a report on the upcoming moon wobble in 2025 and effect on climate.
Trumpers blabbing about politics again
Basically the new global warming boogeyman 😂
Wait till the moon wobble cycle starts in 2025. Looks like they will effect the earthvaround the same time frame.
