    Love the way you blend ops with a story. Really really like the little touches of communicating with the other train crews. Great video.

    WOW! Awesome video, and great commentary!! I've never worked for a railroad, but this gives me at least some idea of what a yardmaster might deal with. VERY interesting. I subscribed because I don't want to just watch trains go by...I want to be educated as well! You have done that. Thank you. I definitely look forward to more of your videos!! Thanks for sharing your video!

    Hi Dean - Bravo ............. that was spectacular! You did a great job of covering the action surrounding Monument Yard. I really liked the crew on the NP helper .......... a true railroad hick. Customer Hamilton was classic as was Supt. Thompson ........... that was prototype railroading ....... especially the threat of insubordination. Excellent job of keeping things moving along swiftly ........ it didn't seem like a 15 minute video. Thanks much!! Mike

    Dean,
    So... the position you’re playing is the Yardmaster, right? I never knew there’d be so much communication in a yard setting.
    Every time I’ve done switching it’s been with paperwork in hand, studying track, cars and car numbers. I don’t know if I’d have the brain capacity to listen out and take instructions at the same time.
    Well, I do do that regularly in my day job but I’ve never worked a model RR with a yardmaster before. It looks to be even more complicated than the dispatcher’s role!
    There’s definitely something special about operating on a layout where the creator is either a professional railroader or at least has had extensive input from same. (eg. last year I operated on Tim Dickinson’s BN layout 👍).
    It’s very inspirational and a little intimidating at the same time... so much to LEARN!!
    Thanks, Greg

      @oregonjointlinemodelrailro4125  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks for the comments Greg. I worked with a yardmaster who had previously been a dispatcher and he definitely thought yardmaster was the tougher job.

    Great Ops session, Dean! I loved all your special audio effects and voices. I especially enjoyed hearing your new opening jingle at the beginning of this video. The jingle was short and sweet, to the point, and sounds like it was sung by a barber shop quartet.
    And I laughed so hard at the abrupt, comedic conclusion to your video. It ended with a surprising cliffhanger. Does that portend an upcoming part two to this video ops session? We can only hope so!
    I was stunned to see you run the set of Athearn pre-1972 Santa Fe F45s since, to my knowledge, in Oregon they never pulled any Santa Fe trains trailed by a bright Indian red Santa Fe caboose.
    During that pre-1972 era, the farthest point north that Santa Fe Railway reached in the Pacific coast states was Sacramento, California. That's still several hundreds of miles away from central Oregon. The only time Santa Fe diesels regularly made their way that far north occurred after the BNSF merger in 1996, when freights sporting post-1972 blue and yellow Warbonnets, and later red and silver Warbonnets-all not yet repainted in BNSF’s colors-ran across Oregon rails.
    Using your pre-1972 F45s on your layout clearly breached prototype modeling standards, but-what the heck!-you made my day as a lover of all things Santa Fe. Yep, Santa Fe remains my favorite fallen flag railroad, followed closely by Southern Pacific. I model both. I also own several Athearn N scale, pre-1972, blue and yellow Santa Fe F45s. I'm so glad that you ran these same locos on your layout. They looked so fine there!
    Happy rails to you, Dean!

    • @oregonjointlinemodelrailro4125
      @oregonjointlinemodelrailro4125  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks Tom - the jingle is meant to be an ode to the Beach Boys. I'm pulling my favorite railroad things into the layout which fit into the late 60's/early 70's time frame so if it's a little off on the timing so be it. The most obvious error (which I'm surprised you didn't mention ahead of the F45/Indian Red caboose faux pas) is the presence of tunnel motors on a layout set in 1969! Basically if it's fitting into the 1969-1973 era I'm running it - prototype purists be damned!

      Oregon Joint Line Model Railroad I hear you Dean. I take some creative liberty with my 60s-era modeling, too. It's your layout, so you can have fun with it any way you want regardless of what anyone says. You are king of your own N scale empire. That's all that matters.
      -from Tom Pilling

  • @trainknut
    @trainknut 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I liked seeing those SP tunnel motors.
    This layout and (most of) the rolling stock are such high quality, it's kinda distracting to see those SP units with their disgusting lack of light packages, so it's nice to see some welcome Intermountain equipment with light packages.
    It seems Intermountain is the only company that cares enough about realism to add light packages.

      It's a club sized layout built by one person. Signals would've set me back years in getting it up and running for op sessions.

    Well your videos are responsible that I'm not satisfied with my layout anymore and started to make it bigger to improve it😂😂
    I learned so much just from watching a couple vids on operation of your yards and now I can improve my own. Although it's European style since I live in Germany. But im not bound to one region and next to my Ludmilla sits the big boy both Read to pull big freight trains😁

    Isnt the power on 657 anachronistic for 69? I thought the SD40T-2 was from the 70s.

      Yup. But big SP road power from the 60's isn't readily available in N Scale. And I like tunnel motors...
