    Short Maremma Sheepdog description:
    The Maremma Sheepdog is a giant dog breed and according to the official FCI breed standard, their height should be between 60-73 cm, which is 23-29 inch and weight between 30-45 kg, which is 66-100 pounds. The females are naturally little bit smaller than males.
    The Maremma Sheepdog can only be in solid white color. Shades of ivory, pale orange or lemon is tolerated. There is a reason why they are white. It is because all white dog are easily recognizable from larger distances, which helped the shepherds to recognize their dogs apart from other animals, for example wolves. The coat is very thick, long and rough to touch.

    Love our 2 Maremmas. They are so loving and affectionate, very good with children and other dogs. Whenever, a stranger comes to the gate they keep him at bay until thet see one of the family members to welcome him. They love going hiking and to the beach. Luv them!!

    California here. Mac, approximately 5 years old, gentle giant, without doubt. But, best described as an oversized puppy, that loves to dig, roll in the dirt, head directly to and stand in the middle of mud puddles and irrigation ditches when the water is on. loves endless belly rubs and leaning against his favorite people. Anyone wanting one, keep in mind these dogs are are bread to be outdoor working dogs they need the space to serve their nature. A daily 5 to 10 min brushing keeps them reactively handsome and clean. And lol almost a hosing off

    I have a Maremma German Shepherd mix. We had to move to the city in an apartment for now but she's still a pup. We're gonna get a place with yard before she's one with a dog door so she can just do what she wants. We take her out to dog parks every single day and don't miss. She's been great and I love how chill she is.

    Our Maremma is so loving and protective of his family!! but he will not stop barking at everyone, and even when we tell him to stop or go to him and comfort him he still won't stop. We can't take him out on walk during the day because he would try to run ahead as soon as he sees someone, it's barking on site like the road belongs to us and he is trying to protect his family. he also pulls when we walk him and it's so unenjoyable. If anyone has any tips that would be helpful!

    I like that the Maremma has almost no prey drive, so maybe it is not the dog that guards against predators in the sky, maybe it is the Kuvasz after all. Must a dog have prey drive to guard against animals that would get at what they are protecting?

    • @Rocadog
      @Rocadog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Protection dog does not need to have high prey drive. High prey drive is beneficial for hunting breeds. Guarding dog does not need to kill the enemy and in most cases, the Maremma Sheepdog will just deter the intruder by barking of defensive posture. This is a protective dog, but defensively protective, they are not attack or offensive dog.

    Will it protect a wolf? I'm doing my research first but we have a husky who needs a playmate XD This is a really good informative video too.
    Please don't have a go at me also if you have misinterpreted my comment above. I'm an experienced owner of high energy dogs and always do my research before getting a dog. I'm very patient also and exercise my husky twice a day. Dogs are for life and I know that.

    If you really are a dog lover then DO NOT get a dog simply because you like the way he looks…, because they’re fashionable , because you think to be cool in saying “ is an Italian sheep dog “ etc. , for your home. They are happy, shaped by the nature…, when they grew up with flocks of sheep, in the wild, in the cold and in the heat. Get a chihuahua…

      Word, another plus compared to most other breeds: they don't kill wildlife but scare it away. No need for a guard dog to kill Pheasants or Rabbits.

    There are perfect descriptions of this dog, what it looked like, how it was used and where it was present in Italy, by the ancient Roman authors Varro and Columella from two thousand years and more ago. These testimonials give it much greater priority over the other breeds you mention.

    My brother bought his maremma sheep dog home with him after a break up he was abused in the past the dog. He didn't know us, but he gets along well with us and our dog, but he really dislikes our lovely neighbours, penny my dog tries to stop him barking at them, as penny gets along really good with them. I don't know why he is so aggressive with our neighbours. They are very kind people and they own a Labrador. How can we get him to be nice to our neighbours
