Hi Sarah, watching your videos from England and loving every one of them! I love the gold ❤ I know you’re the Queen of beautiful glazes but your pottery is amazing too ! Any chance you could show us how you throw and build these lovely pieces? 🤞
Wow! I just "discovered you" for the first time, and just - WOW - Thank you for the demo on luster. I have been curious about it but the price (eeeek) was a real brick wall for me. But now, after seeing your experience with it, I feel a bit more brave about it. I too, LUVVVVV pink and gold. I have never tried Coyote brand glazes but I'm def going to order these two. Thanks again. Big hug, Cat
Hi Cat!! and welcome to my community here on YT!! I'm so glad you enjoyed my video and are inspired to try some of my combos out! As for the lustre, as an fyi, it does last a long time, I've added embellishments on many pots and they always seem to sell quickly and they do look fab if is say so myself...teehee! 🥰
Sister girl. I was on my road trip to Louisville, KY yesterday to Potter's heaven aka "Kentucky Mudworks", loaded up my 400lbs of muddy goodness and got home and relaxed to see your video! What a great day! I am gonna say this HOBBY potter is not ready for a $75 mini bottle of gold, but was delighted to see you work it. as always that pink sunset AB combo works for you. I LOVE seeing you back in front of the camera, thank you for the efforts you put into them for all of us to enjoy. Blessings to ya girl!
Oh you make me Jelli... I'd love to go to Kentucky Mudworks!! I haven't found a supplier up here (Canada) that distributes...and shipping from there would be out-of-the-question! As for the $75 price tag on that yummy bottle of gold its probably cost MUCH less in the US as most things do. Thank you for all of you continued encouragement it makes such a difference!! Enjoy throwing all of that clay!! 😊

Hi Sarah, I just love how your mugs turned out with that gold lustre! I’ve used it before on a small porcelain frog I made! I made his eyes gold and I think he’s the cutest! I have a question for you if you don’t mind? Do you add a clear glaze to your pieces or do you just glaze the colours and leave them to fire like that? I am in the process of glazing some pots but I didn’t know if I should be covering them in a final coating of clear glaze to fire them? Well done with the lustre! All your pieces look fabulous! Lisa x
Thank you so much Lisa!! To answer your question, no I don't add a clear glaze. The glazes I use are rated food safe when fired to ^5-6 which is where I fire my kiln. The lustres are also food safe (not good for the microwave!!!) and don't require a top coat. The only time I use a clear glaze is on underglaze/underglaze transfers on food surfaces, which would require a clear/transparent top coat to be food safe. I hope this makes sense and that I was able to answer your question. Cheers!
Hi Stephanie!! I'm so sorry that I missed your message! Yes the Gold Lustre is food safe so fine to put on the rim of a piece, but do NOT put it in the microwave it has real gold in it and as such will arc in the microwave😵💫🥰

Yes Archies Base does make glazes run and I often get little drips and or billows of glaze. I was overly cautious with it in this video hence why I was left with so much of the Sunset Pink showing...maybe it was meant to be so that I tried the Gold Lustre 😊
You mentioned you rinsed them after bisque firing and were ready to glaze. How exactly do you rinse them? With a damp sponge or dipped in water? Just found your channel and am loving it already!
Thank you Kari! I’m so glad you found me an are enjoying my content! I physically rinse each piece…not only that but I give them a light sanding using drywall screening in the water. Typically I do this under running water to remove the ‘dust’ from the bisque fire. Also, be sure to strain the water before it goes down the drain, I use a couple of sheets of paper towel over the drain, because you don’t want all the ‘silt’ that comes off the pot going down your drain. I do this rinse and sand as a way to really feel my piece before glaze to ensure no rough/sharp spots. Then I let it dry thoroughly, on a sunny warm day I’ll put them outside otherwise I’ll put them under a heat vent…Hope this helps! 😊
I have used that same rose stain and found I had to add way more that I thought. Loved the gold. You would have to sell them for $75 each to get your time and money back.
Hi Janet! Sorry it's taken me a min to reply! The weather here in Ontario has taken a turn from the dreary rainy spring into unseasonably warms sunny weather so I was taking advantage and working on many projects in the yard in prep for summer! With that said I'm glad to hear that you experienced the same issue but it was remedied...did you get the burnout beige effect in areas too? and was it solved with adding more stain?
My counters are Formica. I didn't have a say in the finishes even though I bought my home direct from the builder, it was far enough along in the process that all of the decisions had been made. I do like it, though one day I want to upgrade it to Quartz. 🤭
I definitely like it better with the gold. The other colour just didn't match well with the lighter baby pink. I also think it would've looked good if you had put gold around the top of the mugs.
You know I toyed with the idea of adding the gold lustre to the rim, but since I had never used it before I was a little bit more conservative..maybe next time. I've see it and when the rim is shinning it a beautiful effect! Thanks for the suggestion ☺
I have luster and a mother of pearl overglaze. I was told not to put them on food safe containers or on the inside of them. Wouldn’t putting your mouth on the finished luster cause some leaching into your drink.
Hi Ensenador, I took a quick peek at Mayco's Overglaze Use www.maycocolors.com/color/fired/overglazes/ take a peek, they say it's fine to use once fired to appropriate temp. 😊

My counters are Formica. I didn't have a say in the finishes even though I bought my home direct from the builder, it was far enough along in the process that all of the decisions had been made. I do like it, though one day I want to upgrade it to Quartz. 🤭
@@SarahWaltonPottery that does sound pretty.
So nice. Just wondering if you shared the name or color of he pink Mason stain. ❤
Hi! Yes I did! 😊
@Sarah Walton Pottery awesome, u went back in to find the name. Thanks for experimenting for me. Lol I'm thinking I may try this. 😅 love your videos
Just got my Sunset Pink and it’s so thick it stays in peaks. Is that like yours?
Hi Brenda, Sunset Pink is a bit on the thicker side but not as thick as some. It still brushes nice but it will give some very soft peaks.
@@SarahWaltonPottery thank you!
Great video Sarah, but then I love all your videos! Always entertaining and Lots of helpful tips, so many Thanks for that. I know it is really time consuming. I love the Coyote glazes but cannot get them here in Europe. And yes definitely, the gold is like the icing on the cake, makes the cups much more beautiful! 😊🩷😊
