There are definitely going to be people that think easy means bad, but I don’t know to me there is probably no better time or place for something that feels authentic than here and now. Part of the comfort in peoples work, maybe even most of it is being able to see their humanity in it.
I'm always looking for inspiration that will help me keep creating. I have neuropathy in both arms and hands, AND arthritis, AND tendon problems! I used to do insanely detailed work professionally and in art hobbies with my docs telling me what/how to keep my hands capable while they slowly got worse. I have a kiln in my garage - my baby, but need yet another surgery on my left (dominant) hand that I probably won't be able to do so... I was looking for ideas today and came across your method here. WOW! Thanks so much. My brain is exploding with ideas building on this! Thanks!
Ann, a note of gratitude for making these pottery videos. I watch all of them, sometimes multiple times to learn new techniques. Discovered your channel over a year ago. Your work is stunning....
Oh, this is so great, Ann. I get itchy fingers when I use underglaze cuz I want to use the same 'painting techniques' from my past jaunt through the faux-finish era. You've taken me by the hand and provoked my itchy fingers to give it a go!!! Thank you.
OMG, every time I see your work I think thats the best someone can go with their investigative pottery. And then you surprise me even more. I think I am your biggest fan (and I'm only 5.2 lol). So, this is truly beautiful, even though at first I thought if this is going to be your first ever flop... and then: VOILA, another masterpiece emerges. Thanks Ann. Love, love, love your work. Greetings from New Zealand.
Thank you so much for this video (and all the others, too). Love to watch you at work and how well you explain everything. And then you show the final results! What a wonderful artist /teacher you are!
You have always been a creative visionary, even way back when at UT Tyler, but you are also an AWESOME teacher. I am so glad to see your videoes and also to see you still being creative. I have always loved your work. Great job my friend 👏 👍 🙌 😀 👌 ❤️
I have been waiting till a process really appealed to me before I jump back into the pottery creative exploration. Ann this is IT !!!!!! I am happy about this process and feel I can excel well. I am thankful that you allow other potter's a free opportunity to understand different ways to express ART in pottery. Your videos seem appealing and doable, without disappointment in oneself. It is loose and free, along with breathable and gives solitude to ME. Thank you so very much I appreciate you willingness to provide a free outlet to those who need it.
I love to watch your delicate painting, sadly I don't have a steady hand, so will watch your videos, I'd love to take a trip into your head, your always coming up with fab ideas and they all come out beautifully. Thank you for sharing
I purchased my first item off the shelf of the ceramics shop, sat down and started painting in this style. I am looking forward to seeing the result. I'm taking this on as an experiment. Thanks to you!
Wow, thank you Anne, you really are an artist! These are such great pieces you made, what an inspiration! I love the flowing, colorful designs. I most certainly will try these methods out.
Thanks so much, giving me so many ideas! Looks like you water down your underglazes, not sure, but I might just the same to get them the same texture. Thanks so much!
Dear Ann , I watch all your videos and they are so inspiring and helpful. I cannot find in which video you mentioned the clear glaze of your choice......
Not really - I let the patterns inspire the end result. I did intentionally cut the last shapes into "poppy-ish" shapes thinking I might do a flowery design. That's the cool part- once you do it a couple of times you start to think about adding blue for sky, green for leaves, yellow/brown for earth in certain areas...don't think too much though! The happy accidents are the best!
Love your videos! I'm an amateur who has been playing at pottery for over 10 years and I love all the new ideas. Are yours mostly one of a kind pieces? How much do you charge for say, a vase? I'm thinking about selling some of my one of a kinds -- most of mine are one of a kind because when I get a great result I'm afraid to try it again in case it doesn't turn out as well! AND, I like to try different things. Thanks!
Check out my Etsy link to get a sense of what I charge. 95% of what I do is custom work however - also look at Jon the Potter and Dante at Earth Nation Ceramics to get a sense of what they charge. Good luck!
It can be tough to find in certain parts of the world/USA. I have to drive 2 hours to get it in Sanford FL. But, I would think any porcelain that fires white would give you similar results. Thanks!
Hi Pauline! I cut the clay right from the block then roll it out. It stays pliable for several hours. I don't need to spray or add water either. Could just be the clay I am using (English Porcelain) and living in humid Florida helps too!

Thanks for your support Amy! We really appreciate it!
Ann, I love this! Did you video the koi fish? I would love to see how you made it.
No, the Koi was a test run prior to filming but we did talk about potentially making a video of it since it came out kinda cool. Stay tuned!
I love all your techniques. I learned a lot from your videos. The results look beautiful. Is the clay porcelain? Thanks for sharing.
Yes, it is! Thanks for watching!
Dear Ann , I watch all your videos and they are so inspiring and helpful. I cannot find in which video you mentioned the clear glaze of your choice......
Thanks Suzy...I don’t use it often but when I do it’s Amaco C-11 glaze.
@@LittleStreetPottery Thank you so much. Have a good day and I'm looking foorward to your next video!
Thank you for sharing these super techniques. Such beautiful results. Do you have a finished result in mind before you start?
Not really - I let the patterns inspire the end result. I did intentionally cut the last shapes into "poppy-ish" shapes thinking I might do a flowery design. That's the cool part- once you do it a couple of times you start to think about adding blue for sky, green for leaves, yellow/brown for earth in certain areas...don't think too much though! Do you then bisque after then clear glaze? What fire clay. Love it. Beautiful.
Yep, paint on clay, bisque, clear glaze, fire. Thanks!
Another fantastic video! Do you add water to your underglaze or are mine just THAT dried out somehow?
Yep, I usually add a little water when they dry out. They do dry quickly! Thanks Em!
Love your videos! I'm an amateur who has been playing at pottery for over 10 years and I love all the new ideas. Are yours mostly one of a kind pieces? How much do you charge for say, a vase? What kind of clear glaze do you use? Do you have consistency problems with crawling and milky coverage? Any suggestions?
Amaco C-11 clear. I only use 2 coats as I find 3 makes milk. Thanks,
Thanks Ann! Looks fun! Could I ask what brush you used to apply your black lines?
It’s an eyeliner brush...there is a link in our UnderglazePainting 101 video description! Thanks!
Hola!! El mat que usas es de silicona??
Si, Silicon pastry mat
How do you prevent the slab for drying while you wait for the underglaze?
If I understand your question...I usually just keep it under plastic till I'm ready to use it.
Nice where do you get the #365 porcelain clay
It can be tough to find in certain parts of the world/USA. I have to drive 2 hours to get it in Sanford FL. But, I would think any porcelain that fires white would give you similar results. Thanks!
You are using underglazes on unfixed clay. Do you bisque to 05 and then glaze with clear and fire to 5?
Bisque 04 - fire cone 5. Thanks.
Do you apply the clear glaze after bisque firing or on top of your painting?
Its rare that I apply clear glaze but when I do it would be after bisque and on top of the paintings.
Великолепно!!!!!!
W O W !!!
Did the painted pottery go into a kiln?
Yes. Fired to cone 04 then glazed and fired to cone 5
They were painted with underglazes . Thanks for watching Cali!
Love these ideas but wondering how you keep your slab from drying out to the point of not being able to manipulate it. Can you explain?
Hi Pauline! I cut the clay right from the block then roll it out. It stays pliable for several hours. I don't need to spray or add water either. Could just be the clay I am using (English Porcelain) and living in humid Florida helps too!
