Just a tip, use car fuel pipe for your stopper rather than black tape, it lasts forever. Plus if you can put the top nut for the handle inside the tube as the nut on the top will give you a massive blister if you have mega pumping sessions. Not poo poing your pump its great, just passing on about 10 years of experience. Well done though good job 👍👍👍🐟💙
A better way still is use a piece of broom handle, or round wooden dowel, drill a smaller hole than the steel rod to 60% into the dowel, screw it on. Nice smooth finish that won't hurt your hand. Also, a piece of plastic round piping above the rubber suction assembly is better than black tape. Hope you don't mind these suggestions. Great video.
Hey M8ty thanks for a great video I’m curious to know if you’ve used this pump yet and if so how did it go. Very tempted to build one myself using your step by step
Yes I've used it 4 or 5 times now. I'm no expert at pumping worms but I get more worms quicker with this pump than I ever did with my old, shop bought 28mm one.
@@gsp That's almost too sensible! What dia metal compression washers do you use at top and bottom- just wondering how much clearance to leave given inside diam of copper is about 20mm to get best compression of silicon. Assume 18mm would work but might as well learn from the master...
Great video and homemade bait pump, I made one from 22mm piping but I put a 13mm plunger in mine with a rawl bolt to put the washers on.It doesn't give much suction as losing it from somewhere, so I might swap the 13mm for 7mm bar and get the ends threaded.Top job m8 go get the worms 👍
Had another look at my bait pump which I made it from 22mm and 13mm tubing all compression fittings to make it easier to take apart.I had loss of suction when drawing the plunger back, so I made some new rubber washers and seems OK so now just need to try it out as new to collecting worms either by pump or digging for them.
Awesome Job. Very clear video. Have you found that the steel rod has corroded at all? Or was yours stainless? Would you advise? Definitely would be good to see another video with you using it like another guy mentioned.
It a stainless steel rod that hasn't corroded yet. I will definitely put up a vid once I can travel to the black lug beds and I can actually pump. At the mo due to lockdown it's too far to travel
It obviously doesn't last as long as the stainless steel but I have had mine going for 2 years now and I could probably do with changing the threaded bar and washers
Thanks. I bought one very much like yours (but not as well-constructed) off Ebay from someone in Hastings for £35. Suffice to say, I got what I paid for and it lasted about 10 pumps before losing all suction!! The handle came out every couple of minutes and there was no tape bung, so it got stuck when fully extended!! I requested a refund, citing the above, was given one & not even asked to return the pump. It's too cold to dig now, so I'll wait until next Spring and probably just buy a decent one, as I'm way too lazy (and incompetent) to build one!!!
@@gsp I am sorry for these stupid questions. I have two of these copper 22mm bait pumps which I bought about 3 years ago I don't fishing regularly as I live about 80 miles from the sea side. The pumps that I have has a fully threaded bar inside .I have seen them at diy shops. They are not strong enough as they bend after sometime while you pumping worms and can be a right turn off. I just bought a 28mm steel pump from a guy yesterday for 30 pounds a second hand one and I think he has probably scammed me. He told me yesterday that he will post the pump out to me. I also paid him for postage. I havent heard anything all day from him today despite the fact that I sent him few messages. I came across your video and it looks very practical .As I mentioned I already have 2 22mm pumps. I think all I need is a steel bar and that end cape. How much did you pay for steel bar. I guess that bar is 7mm. And where did you get the cape from. I know a garage guy he may will be able to put threads on it. And finally how is your pump performing with that steel bar in
🤦♂️ I didn't know there was blood on the table! I, very stupidly, run my finger around the end of the cut pipe and I gave me a little slice🤦♂️😂. Wouldn't bloody stop bleeding

if you build om ues lock nuts
would it not be better for the side handle to be open to help letting the air out as it sucks.
Hi, Liked the concept of the pump. Maybe you can make a video when you are using it. Thanks.
Of course
also would a fully threaded bar work instead of buying a plain steel bar and getting the end threaded
The thread would rub as you draw the bar through the top hole of the pump but im sure after a short period it would just smooth down
@@gsp if I grind the threads off and just left the threads on the bottom and top , would it be fine
I dont see why not👍
Great vid. I can't see a link in the description to the video from anglsea North Wales on the tap washer thing.
Unfortunately he closed his channel so it isn't there anymore. I might do a vid myself👍
Great video what did you use for the main washer at the bottom for the suction
I built mine according to the link in the vid. It's a vid on wirral Anglesey and Wales sea fishing page. A very helpful vid
What diameter is the central bar?, If its a 7mm drilled hole, I'm assuming the bar is 6 or 7 mm in diameter??. Cheers 👍
Yes it is 6mm bar👍
Great vid. Just about to set up to make bungs but what dia washers and cutter do you use to get good fit for 22mm outer tube. Thx
I use an off cut of the copper pipe as a punch to get the right size washers

Ah it's ok, I've just seen that someone asked the same question, 6 mm..nice one!
Tight lines!
would 25mm copper pipe be ok i wasnt able to get any 22mm
It would be ok but not ideal. The wider the pipe the harder pumping becomes
@@gsp but surely it will still do the job and be better than a 28mm pump
Oh yeah definitely 👍
@@gsp just one more question would 6mm or 8mm bar be ok to use
8mm would be fine, but all this extra diameter will add weight
Can you please send a link for the suction washer
Unfortunately Freddie the channel that had the links has closed and is no longer active at all😞
what thickness is that steel bar going threw the copper pipe
Either 6mm or 8mm will work but the one I use is 6mm
how much do you reckon it cost to make this pump
Approx. £20-£25👍
Brill vid m8! What mm is the steel rod?
Tight lines!
Nice video! Have you thought about a wing nut at the bung to make the adjustment quick and easy! 👍🏻
I've used wing nuts and they come lose very quickly. I think it's better to have either a locking nut or 2 nuts together so there is no movement

How much did the whole build cost?
I think I worked it out at £18.50
Love this greg mate!! I gotta gove this ago bro!! Looks awesome 👌🏽. How does it perform compared to the proper bait pumps? Tight lines greg bro 💙

Thats a bit of a bummer and it is very hit and miss if you're on a budget and especially if you can't try before you buy
What is that end cap
It's a bicycle handle bar end cap👍

Hey Brow I am waiting for video when are you going to use this pump?
Please upload the video pumping lug worms 🪱
I havent had the time this year to pump unfortunately due to a heavy work load but as soon as i do i will upload the video 👍
I made this pump today.. 😀👍🏾 Thank you for your video I really appreciate… Any recommendations for place for lugworms pumping around Brighton area?
@@IrfanAnsari-ig4nf i never pump that far west but i do think brighton beach on a spring tide is quite good. West side of the pier👍

They definitely would be!
That sucks 😉👍
There's always one! 😂😂
I was thinking that it would be cool to make one. After seeing that you cut yourself. It might be a little too dangerous for me to attempt it 😅
