I've been pumping lug for the last 10 years, so I hope you don't mind me giving you a little advice . I notice that is quite a long bait pump, making the angle it enters the sand at your comfortable height a little too angled, making it cut the worms in half some of the time. I would try 5-6 inches away from the cast, aiming for 6-8 inches directly below the cast. My pump is 90cm so can put the pump into the sand at a more vertical angle, and suck the worm in with a lot less breakage. Always put soap in at handle end, as it is then kept inside the pump tube and lasts a whole lot longer as it's trapped inside, not being pushed out straight away. Good video mate.
Great video, well done to your son Lee! So good to see someone with a marvellous attitude to doing something for the first few times, never give up is great, that is what makes winners in life. I wish you all the best in bait hunting and in life, thank you for posting!
Thank you so much for this comment I really appreciate it I'm better at it now been out 7 times as soon as we are allowed out after this lockdown I will be back down there pumping more worm and showing the way I do it now

@MarkPerry-fk1ot thanks mark I really do appreciate that. I will hopefully get out too and do the same but it does depend on work and family and tides lining up

hi mate , great vid. when i was young we would make our own pumps with plastic plumbing tube etc , but we would always pump verticaly not at an angle , in s. west wales , was easy to get 100-200 in an hour sometimes. If you reduce the pump pressure , you will break less worms , looks a good pump . try different pump angles until you find the most effective method. Glad you use the guts etc , its the best part of the worm. For longer freezing storage , lightly salt the lug , its even better. If they get too moist , lightly coat with sawdust.....more practice , more worms , its very addictive , cheers , slosh.
Thanks slosh i appreciate the comment and help. I'm definitely better now had sessions with over 8.5lb gutted black lug etc. It's odd some days I get loads other days I struggle to get 100
Yep, I agree, practice improves technique! When do you actually go out pumping, with regards to tide height. E.g 1 hour before low water, or after the tide turns?
Thank you Mel I need to go again and do a new video I did a few things wrong and I'm better at now But thank you really appreciate your comment Hope you had a great Christmas
Are you gutting and storing the blow lug in the same way as the black? We only really get blow lug over here in n ireland and everyone seems to think they dont freeze well
I did try it once and it seemed to work OK but I haven't done much experiments with it. I did them the exact same as blacks and it worked for me. Give it a try see what you find
Thank you Richard. This is a beach in Wales it's a long way from where you are. I'm not sure of any beaches up your way. Use Google maps and look for sandy flat beach's / storm beaches and go there on big tides / spring tides over low water
Great vid mate. I've struggled in the past and not really understood what I was actually doing. I think I'll try some different colour electricians tape at different depths so I'll know which is working on the day. You've given me some confidence to keep trying. Cheers!

Great vid, many thanks. I bought a pump from Dave earlier this week, haven't been out with it yet but it's re-assuring to see you nabbing a few. One point, Dave said to me to put the fairy liquid in the handle, not in the bottom of the pump. Not sure what difference it will make. Looking forward to seeing many Cod come in on those huge worms!
Thank you Colin appreciate that Yes Dave has said to me in the handle not the end lol after he seen the video that's my proof I don't have a clue what I'm doing 😂😂😂 But it got me worm so if I can you can just don't give in I'm far from an expert but if you get stuck drop a comment on here will get back to you asap and try help out
Why do you have to remove the guts from the black Lug, surely leaving them in then letting the scent come out when you put it on the hook will attract more Bass etc ??

Interesting video but very frustrating for me. Been living up near Aberystwyth for the last 6 years and have yet to find a worm cast on the beaches around here, (tackle shops tell me they were all dug out years ago, although they would say that ha-ha), so guess those beaches must be way to the south or north of me
problem with my beaches is there is there are too many cast and to many blowholes to tell what one belong to which, 30-50 casts im a 1m sq area and with my luck i only ever manage to pump the little ones lol
That's blow lug your talking about black lug don't have blow holes just a neat round cast the blow lug casts are messy generally the blow lug are higher up the tide line wait for big tide because they go out further and then go have a look around low tide that's where the black lug normally are
@@C3BFA oh yea mate i know the diff beween the two, problem we have is the beach has such a fast tide you gotta take what you can get lol. But with spring tides we are able to get further down to the black lug, just got to be fast
